Wait until the OS matures, because as of now it is a buggier mess than vista was(at least for me). Like other have said, vista 64 is the way to go right now.

I like it a lot. I have used Vista for a long time, and I thought vista was way better than XP.
Windows 7 offers some really neat improvements over Vista and it is very lean - uses less hard drive space compared to Vista.
If you are happy with Vista, then there is no real incentive to upgrade. If you are on XP - then its about time you switched. The whole experience is way better than XP.

Win7 is unequivocally the least-buggy OS Microsoft has ever launched. By a lot. As for it being faster or slower than XP, I can tell you it's pretty damn close to being the same. What everyone forgets is how impressive that is. The fact that a brand new OS runs nearly the same speed on the same hardware as an OS that came out 8 years ago is utterly ridiculous.

No. It's not. Simple as that.

Resistance_Kid

Look up a benchmark, yes it is!

I don't care about benchmarks, I'm talking from experience, and 7 is faster thatn XP, I'm saying no more.

No bringing down W7 or anything, cause I think it's great.... but it's not as fast as XP as of yet... that's a fact.

Vista 64 is fantastic, but Windows 7 is by no means a buggier OS. I have no idea what you are talking about. Its just as stable as Vista 64 for me.

Vista is the way to go now? You are recommending an OS that only lasted 2 years and has already been replaced?

Windows 7 is just fine for modern gaming, but if you want to play games like Diablo and fallout trilogy you will have some difficulties but it is possible to get them to work! (I am on 64bit) Diablo 2 has a little trick that works just fine, pm me if you ever need it k.

I have always said that Vista is great OS - based on my experience of course. Is that the way to go now? No, it was the way to go a long time ago. If you own Vista 64, there is no real reason to upgrade to Windows 7 right away. Windows 7 has some very nifty features, but I can live without them, but now that I got Windows 7 for free, I didn't see any reason not to upgrade.

The only "buginess" I've come across in Win7 x64 is from the current Creative X-Fi drivers, because I have to shut down and restart my computer once every 24 hours or the sound gets crackly, and that problem wasn't there on the first set of Win7 drivers or the betas for x32, just the current x64 ones.

[QUOTE="CellAnimation"]WIndows 7 is like a nicely tweaked Vista. Anyone who tells you different hasn't used either operating system for any real amount of time, or has no idea about either. Compatibility is pretty much the same. Games that worked for me on Vista work just as well on Windows 7. Any issues I've had I've had on both OSes, and the fix for 1 worked on the other too. I'm not going to compare Windows Vista or 7 to XP as I beleive both to be very superiour to XP and I have no idea why anyone with a modern computer would use XP at all. I'm not intersted in starting a flame way here I just don't understand the hype for XP at all.artiedeadat40

Try Gothic 1 or 2 or Messiah with a Nvidia card. Try CoH, BF2, and a couple of more if you have a 59hz display. Try Qrack. There are a few games that dont run as well if at all under Windows 7 that worked fine in Vista.

Saying that Windows 7 is a tweaked Vista is putting it pretty mildly. There are some significant differences like WDDM 1.1, the way that memory is addressed, DX11 support, SSD support, and there is more.

Stuff like the 59Hz display is entirely down to the developers of the game, however. Laying it at Microsoft's feet is pretty silly. They just started more accurately reporting the monitor's actual refresh rate, so the 59.94 stuff started going 'oh hey, I'm less than 60' and then games hard-coded to work at 60 went berserk.

Hello nedus1, I will tell you from first hand experience, all of my systems have been converted to Windows 7. I am not just saying it to say because I am affiliated with Microsoft. I can truly stand behind this product and tell you straight away it works very reliably, fast and extremely stable. The 64bit version is a real powerhouse as well. Anyways, what to say about Windows 7? There are several new features that are available with Windows 7 that will assist you with deployment and management of a large number of workstations. Enterprise IT infrastructures are increasingly complex to manage. The Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) is a dynamic desktop solution that is available as a subscription for Software Assurance customers. The solution suite enhances application deployment and compatibility, increases IT responsiveness and end user uptime, and helps reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) of your desktop software and IT management. To learn more about this package, please go here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/enterprise/products/mdop/default.aspx Also now available is MDT 2010 (Microsoft Deployment Tool) which will help you create images and automate the OS and application installations, data migration, and desktop configuration process. To learn more, please go here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744519(WS.10).aspx Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum specifically for IT Pros located here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/w7itpro/ . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to also check the threads available there for additional assistance and feedback. Also, if you would like to read what other users have said about their positive experience with Windows 7, you may want to check out the following sites: http://www.winsupersite.com/ and http://www.edbott.com/weblog/ John M Microsoft Windows Client Team

Support for Windows XP ends April 8, 2014. Looks like you're going to make the move to Vista or 7 no matter what.

XP>>>WIN 7>>VISTA ....I do part time IT among my regular job and I can tell you alot of businesses would not touch vista due to program conflicts-having to upgrade systems when XP was getting the job done well....However those companies now are more willing to upgrade to 7 mainly due to the length of time xp has been operational and knowing support for it is coming to a close in a couple of years.....

I agree with Frenzyd. Vista 64 for me had problems reading graphics drivers, crashed periodically, and bogged down when running diagnostics.

Windows 7 is the true descendant of XP.:)

7 is alright. It's basically a version of Vista that works a little more efficiently. 7 uses about the same amount of system resources that Vista does, but with the latest ram and cpus this really isn't that big of a deal. XP is still a more efficient os, but it's becoming outdated. If you want to maximize your ram, Windows 7 64bit is a no brainer. Windows 7 is also pretty good at flawlessly recognizing your hardware and suggesting the latest drivers for said hardware.
