Hi, My current specs are : Gigabyte GA-q35m-s2 mobo Intel Q6600 nVidia GTX280 4gb DDR2 corsair memory I would like to go to an i7 mobo, so I understand the socket is LGA1156 (1366 is too expensive). Will this fit in my current mid tower case? is it ATX? also I have a Zalman cooler, would this be ok for my new processor? Thanks for any advice.

Well if your going to a 1156 motherboard then the i5 750 is the best offering for price/performance. Also they easily overclock to 4Ghz ^^

You can get motherboards in a number of sizes, just buy one that will fit in your case.

Also your Zalman CPU cooler probably wont work on the new motherboard as the holes are in a different position...check on their website to see what they say about your particular model.

I don't know about all manufacturers but EVGA's P55 mobo lineup has two sets of holes for heatsink mounting. One set for heatsinks with lga 775 mounts and one set for those with 1156 mounts. Also, check with Zalman and see if they have a socket 1156 mounting kit for your cooler. Some companies have mounting kits for different sockets available. Pretty common when socket 1366 cpu/mobo's came out so they may have some for socket 1156 as well.

I would buy a new one anyway, cuz even if it is supposed to work on it, it was meant for the other socket. You never know what problems you might run into...such as a burned out cpu
