the sony viao lineup is a dismal faliure in terms of entertainment (i dont even know why they bother anymore)from a professional standpoint its on par with everything else out there
i like dell's tbh especially the amd cpu ones.. they build those rather well. my favourite this far has been the inpiron 1565 with a turion x2 and hd 4330 which basically SWAMPS everything in its sub 500 dollar (canadian) pricebracket.
ive NEVER seen a sub 500 dollar laptop that could game let alone play BIA:hells highway on HIGH!!
Would you say it is as good the PC or the MAC?samanthademeste
Sony would be Considered as a PC - It runs Windows. IBM Compatibitly are all considered to be PC. So that question is invalid.
My Thoughts about Sony though , WAAAYY overpriced for what you get. You get nothing extra in a Sony, than you would an HP or a Dell.
In terms of Laptops, Sony Definately charges too much....The Next Sony Laptop you look at, Try and Find a Comarable HP or ASUS, and look at the Price differences.
IMO - If you are looking for a Qualilty Laptop for the Money - Look in to ASUS or MSI. Each of them have thier own line of Motherboards and Graphics Cards. And I really enjoy ASUS System Software extras. I think some of the best Diagnostics tools.
I'm using a VAIO laptop (not sure about the model as I got it second hand). It's nothing special in terms of power but its really easy to keep everything organised.

Vaio is the most unreliable brand I've ever seen.red-raywrong... if you have owned a vaio you would probably figure out pretty fast that they produce some of the highest quality laptops in terms of build quality. display is alllllways top notch. For the most part they are not performance monsters, but that's not the market they are after. you pay for quality hardware with sony. More expensive than competitors? yes, but for good reason in most cases.

And ya the spare parts probably are expensive, you are going to pay a premium for a Sony product. But Hopefully since the build quality of the vaio series are usually so good you wont need any.

Pay a premium for a quality product? Sony computers are junk.
You're the only person in this thread defending Vaio, do you work for them or get suckered into buying one? :p
yeah i own a sony vaio fw myself and i have to agree that it is not in anyway premium compared to other models.i simply got this because there was a nice discount about 20% and sony is the only brand which has a established customer service network in my country, india.if only asus has more models in india,i would have got it over sony anyday.but anyway asus laptops are also priced higher in my country comparable to vaios.you guys are really lucky to have such cheap bang for the buck asus laptops.no question for gaming get a asus g series.

yea, you are paying a premium for a quality product compared to a lot of competing brands. Go look at some reviews by some professionals. Vaio laptops always are given credit for their build quality and the fit and finish on them. The thing that has been holding Sony back has always been the price. Whether or not your willing to pay it is up to you. But saying sony computers are junk, well i dont see where your coming from. They have good build quality, but they're a bit overpriced. My girlfriend has had two of them and she's had good luck with both. The first one, which was a Pentium 3, lasted six years. Eventually the battery died completely, and it became extremely antiquated. Her Core 2 Duo based Vaio is doing well after 3 years.

HP and Toshiba are absolute trash. They're cheap for a reason. I could tell you so many horror stories about my experiences with those brands. My parents bought a bunch of Toshiba laptops for their office, and every single one of them was dead within two years. I had one and it went through three motherboard replacements because it would randomly overheat and shut off. My girlfriend had one for a year before giving up and going back to Sony, and had her screen replaced twice. Toshiba's support is the worst. I hope you like talking to people who speak Chingrish and don't honor their warranties unless you literally scream at them. Toshibas are cheap pieces of Chinese made garbage guaranteed to fail in a year or two.
High end Sony laptops are made in the USA and Japan, not China. That's why they last. You can also get someone on the phone who speaks English when you have a problem.
Asus is a good brand too, but they have terrible support.
Good laptop brands: Dell Lattitude/Vostro, Lenovo Thinkpad, Fujitsu, Sony Vaio (the high end ones from the Sony store), Panasonic Toughbooks, Asus
Crappy Brands: HP, Gateway, Dell Inspiron, emachines, Toshiba
As a general rule of thumb, laptops that are built for business last (eg lattitudes, thinkpads), while consumer grade laptops are mostly garbage, with a few exceptions.
Yousay Toshiba is bad because it is assembled in China but Toshiba is a Japanese company but on your good laptop manufacturers list you have Lenovo which is ironically a Chinese company.
But I agree with you Toshiba used to be great but in the last few years their quality has sharply declined, my Toshiba laptop died in 3 years and I too had lots of problems withit espacially heating problems.
