my sound is realtek ac97 audio. its just plain out not working, the sound device is not detecting any speakers. ive reinstalled the whole sound device, tried different speakers, and used all jacks just incase something weird happened. my dad changed my motherboard to a different case, so the only thing different is a powersupply, im hoping its not a mistake with the cords being plugged in. but thats all i can think of now.
You have to install the Motherboard drivers first if your using the onboard sound. Chances are your dad didnt load the motherboard cd drivers. Also make sure the setting on your motherbaord in enabled in BIOS
Is the device listed and working correctly according to device manager? Do you see software indicating that sound is playing even though you can't hear it? Have you checked all windows audio settings (and that of any software that might have been installed with the device) for things like correct position of the volume sliders?
To me, it sounds like you either have misconnected cords (easy) or your onboard audio is trashed (easy too, but costs money). Check the cabling. It could be the software I guess...but it sounds like you're reinstalled it a few times, which makes me less hopeful.
