so, right now i have philips mms321/17 speakers. i am very pleased with them but they don't have the right inputs to work correctly with my current setup. i would just rather not have to switch my default audio device every time i want to use the speakers.

would like a good set, no sub, no surround, with toslink support.

eh, i dunno. would like to keep it under or around 100... maybe 150 at the most. also they need to be slim like the mms321/17s are. i know a lot of people will recommend the bigger boom box type speakers and i just don't have the space on my desk for those.

Bookshelf speakers would offer much better sound quality though.

yeah, i just don't have the space... tiny desk. had to adjust my setup just to fit these ones on the desk properly. a sound bar could work? i had my monitor on the wall but had to take it down to set these up.

I'm confused; what is the problem with using the Philips speakers? Why do you need to switch audio devices?

If you absolutely require an optical TOSLINK connection, Behringer has some studio monitors that will probably be your best bet outside using a cheap DAC. The DAC will convert your optical signal into an analog output for your existing Philips speakers. I'd probably prefer the Behringer route myself, though.

Happy gaming,

Boz

ah, was looking for a converter before. all i was finding were tosling to optical miniplug, guess i just wasn't searching right. will probably get this then.

thanks!

it's gotta be toslink because i've got my xbox and pc hooked up to the px5s box input via toslink splitter so i can use it on both without switching cords around. but when i don't want to use the headphones i don't won't to have to change my default aduio device every time. only way to do that that i know if use the output on the px5s box and the only output it has is toslink and the only input my speakers have is a 1/8 jack.

just installed converter, worked great. can now play sound from speakers and headphones without messing with anything. and now the speakers play xbox sound as well which was a bonus i wasn't even trying to accomplish.
