so do you think spore is just a high tech toy? or a game that has the ability to revolutionize many parts in modern gaming, like the data distribution system, they practicaly had to made their own version of the internet for that.

personaly i think spore can change alot of generas, not so much in fps, but say for a stratagy game that takes place with hundreds if not thousands of players in a similar galaxy style game method. idk, might work, might now, give me your opinion

Well I think the concept of procedural animation and procedural methods in general has raised a lot of eyebrows. I am a little worried the game won't be a fun game for a lot of people. Its really open and I wonder how well guided you will be. For instance a lot of people didn't like oblivion because they didn't know what to do. Spore could be 10 times worse.

Still if its another blockbuster like the sims it will certainly make developers step back and reevaluate what the most important aspects of game design are.

Spore looks too simple 2 not know what 2 do.

Also its almost looks like no matter what u do it'll work lol. i understand what your getting at tho, but u just look at 1 of them video demo's and it looks pretty straight forward.

I think it will have the same impact as "The Sims".

Spore can have a huge positive impact on gaming, but only if it becomes successful If e.g. some company decides to make a deep RTS game, using Spores procedural animation we could get a very interesting RTS game. This could easily be a game just as advanced as other great RTS games, while adding more randomness to the game to avoid every game to become the same as last game The ideas from Spore could be used in almost all genres. It will be difficult to make it useful in FPS games, but not impossible Just because Spore looks too cartoony and is too simple, doesn't mean it can't have a huge impact on more difficult and realistic looking games ;)

Spore will be a big success, but it wont do anything for other games.

The ceoncepts and ideas inhreent in spore are too costly to implement in other games. Other developers simply wont do it.

You do realise that via the Creature Creator there were over 1.5 million creatures created and uploaded within a couple weeks, right?

Presumably you mean a commercial failure, because that is the only kind of failure there is, and if that's your opinion, I'm pretty sure you're completely wrong. The Spore community is already enormous and the actual game isn't even out yet.

I'm not fond of Spore, but the game is going to sell extremely well. Extremely well.

Only failure with Spore is that it's made under control of EA.

Otherwise I can't wait for this game. I've been waiting forever. :(

There is nothing wrong with EA. The game is definately not rushed, it has EA's vast monetary supplys behind it and EA will no doubt put lots of money into marketing it too. So if anything, it being made under the control of EA is a GOOD thing.

Had it been any other game from EA I would agree, but in this case it actually seems like being under EA has helped the game. Unlike all other EA games, this one hasn't been rushed

big success-why?

it appeals to almost all age groups, not been a game before like it (to my awareness), looks so simple to play, and most importantly looks great (graphically and game-play)

Just because you don't find appeal to a game, doesn't mean it won't be big and it doesn't mean that you're missing anything. I can tell from your statement that you really liked Crysis...

Personally, I really don't care for Crysis. Yeah, it offers some different skills to play with over other FPS out there, but there are thing that just irritate me to no end with the game. I have yet to beat it....

On the other hand, I'm looking forward to Spore. I enjoy games like this one that is coming out - Galactic Civilization II, Sins Of A Solar Empire, Rome Total War are to name just a few games that kind of fall under the same gameplay as Spore looks to have.

To each their own.....maybe one day you'll get a copy of Spore and find out you actually do like it or you'll confirm your initial thoughts that you don't care for it; or you'll never play the game and you'll be fine with that, too.

Well, I think the concept of spore is great, customization, creation, loads to explore/mess around with, but by making it nearly completely single player they shot themselves in the foot/face (depending on who you hunt with ;) ). But, I don't think they had the desire to leap headlong into the MMORTS genre just yet. The OP was talking about a huge galaxy with lots of worlds etc, that's the spirit of an MMORTS, which this is not. I doubt that this game will be much more than a good idea in 5 years. Sorry EA...
