For those of you who are playing Call of Pripyat, I feel a bit lost, mainly due to the fact they just put you in the middle of nowhere with a stupid objective. I mean in the first and CS they give very specific directions on what to do. Because I got this black box from the first helicopter, and I went to some guy who got a message out of it. Then the game just says go to B28, without telling me where on earth or what I have to do to get there :P

Any ideas?

Press P. Look at the map and at your objectives. I have not come across a quest (besides the finding artifacts, etc.) that did not show you where to go with a map marker. And an arrow shows up on your minimap pointing you towards your currently selected quest. If the quest is in a different area (there are 3 areas) it will not show up on the minimap.

Besides that, talk to the guys on the boat (main little town place of the area you begin at). You'll get some side quests and such. Do them.

I was too a bit overwhelmed at first, as in previous S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games you are basically told go do this and then that. Well in the start of this one you get to choose which area you choose to do first. I hope you enjoy the game it is to me easily the best in the series. I will be going back for a 2nd play through after I am finished with Bioshock 2.

So it takes the nonlinear big maps into a whole new level? Fallout 3 style?

I dont know , it tell you pretty much everything : where to go , what to do. You just need to select quest you are doing and everything will be marked on your pda . Ofc if you skip and dont read anything you may be lost.

Basically, its much more open than previous Stalker games. Easily the best of them IMO... nothing like exploring a random "dungeon" with nothing but a shottie and flashlight... thrilling. From what I can see they upped the "RPG" piece, more gear, more stats and fully upgradeable weapons (like WoW skill trees per weapon). It retains the same realistic gun play, while adding a layer.

Hmm i like the "random dungeon" kinda remind me the oblivion/fallout 3 gameplay As for the reallistic gun play? I found cs lacking in that sector, felt more rpg. Now i dont mind weapons being ineffective as long my character can take many hits, just like fallout 3 for example ;)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. CoP has much more realistic gun-play. The weapons are much effective on enemies, and act in a much more realistic manner.

When you say "more reallistic" you mean from the previous stalker games or from fallout 3? If its from the previous stalker games then good but if its more than fallout 3, i already know that and thats obvious, what i am saying is that if i can take as much damage as i take in fallout 3 from enemy weapons, then i dont mind weapons been weak since it will add up an rpg feel to it!

Same thing happened to me, when I needed to find the keys for the poison gass quest I got lost.

I get why people love the series but its just not for me, the whole game is just too oppresive and the world is dog eat dog. Everyone is a russian a**hole who would shoot you before look at you. Even fallout 3's post apocolyptic wasteland had some humour and colorful characters.

The yellow markers are the main story objectives. But in all honesty, this non hand-holding is precisely why I love the series. They dump you in the Zone and let you do what you want. My advice is do what you want, but don't rush through the main story, exploration is much more enjoyable. I'd hate to see this game have any more directional assistance than what they now have in Call of Pripyat.

I do like less holding hands, but I mean the zone is quite large :P Talking to every person isn't exactly the hawtest idea. I haven't played CoP since my original post however, the flu is the suck.

yes weapons are more effective... weve been over this 6 times so far the last few days, on this site ^^ If you go ahead and buy the more expencive ammo for the guns they are even more effective.

Id say it is like SOC, but shotguns and handguns are more damaging overall (my decked out USP compact pretty much kills anything in a few bullets, or 1 headdie, mind you the price for the bullets are about 15000 for its high end ammo, so I usually go for the cheaper 45. cal ammo, which is a bit less effective).

The guns are still more realistic acting then most other fps games tho, so be warned ;) ljsut like in the real world full auto is a one way ticked to the sarges bad side.

Bulletdrop, and what type of barrel you use for the guns also have alot to say (you can pretty much make a gun that is a slow fireing mofo precise and very little bulletdrop, or go another route, and a high rof, for close quarters (like a upped ak, with a 40 bullet mag, great for indoors, but it would be worthless at even medium distances). A great new edition is different kinds of scopes aswell ^^ I have a Modified Thunder Rifle, that runs on normal ak bullets, and a scope with target recognision computer (it makes you aware of any living thing in sight, when using the scope), and a Sig 550, with a low light scope, for dark areas (not quite a nightvision scope, since they are useless in daylight),it does a decent job in the dark, and ok in light^^

As for the OP, you really dont have to talk to everyone in the game ;) you will quickly find out how to identify personnel with missions for you (does help that they are often located at "hubs" where traders repairmen and such are aswell... Not much use talking to people out in the wild, since they rarely know anything of inttrest.

Semi-topic-related question here, does CoP have the nearly pitch-black nights that Clear Sky had? I quite liked those, upped the atmosphere level quite a lot for me.

No I know and fully understand why most people love the setting. You should watch "The Road" with Vigo Mortinson, it paints a very similar (and probably accurate) picture of a post apocolytic world. I hated that movie! It ruined the impending and inevitable zombie apocolypse for me. :(

I love how this game doesn't hold your hand. The farthest it goes is to give you a yellow arrow on your mini map pointing to the objective you select YOURSELF on your PDA. Thats IT....Where did all the PC devs go that had the balls to design like this. I LOVE the fact that the devs aren't assuming I'm a mental child that needs every action to be spelled out for me. This game is the s-h-i-z-n-e-z-e-l and too few gamers have the patience and maturity to appreciate it.
