I've played the previous S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games and have never found them to be enjoyable. In fact, only terrible. The graphics are horrible, the storyline is bland and the characters are all the same. Does Call of Pripyat show any improvement in this regard? Especially the graphics, hopefully they are no longer Nintendo 64 engine driven.

If you dont enjoy the games then dont buy them. Ive loved every single STALKER game so far and have played and beaten them all multiple times. Plus if you think the graphics suck so bad why dont you install mods???

Graphics not really, check some screenshots. They look too dated for 2010. Unless you got dx11 and a good machine, but honestly they are somewhat the same. Also if you found soc terrible and story bland. I think you will find Call of pripyat somewhat average or "meh" not bad but there are no significant imrpvoments in such a rate that you will like the game when you found the first 2 pretty bad!

Wasn't aware there were mods for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. How beneficial are the mods? Is there even a noticable difference?

The graphics in STALKER are not bad. I played the first game and I thought it look pretty good.
These games are not very everyone. If you did not like the first game, chances are you won't like COP either.

Why even ask if you thought the first two were terrible? Clearly you missed the concept that these games are loved mainly for their setting and atmosphere, and the challenge compared to your average guns blazing drop 50 enemies without taking a hit fps games. If that isn't your thing, COP isn't for you. You want awesome gfx, play Crysis.

Clerly he missed the point, that graphics are meant to look dated and crappy combat and hell buggy gameplay  I believe thats what he meant by terrible but anyway, i cant help it when people pose reasons and tell others that the missed the point because of "blah blah" when the users seem to not like the game for other reasons. People just assume wrong reasons, what i mean is that you made no mention that the previous 2 games were catergorized as "buggy" by many!!!

Where does he mention it wasn't enjoyable because of bugs? He listed specifics:bad gfx, characters and story. I would say yes, he doesn't appreciate the world of Stalker.

Heres some pretty good ones that improve the graphics, without altering the core game too much:
Stalker Complete 2009 (it has a built in installer, too)
L.U.R.K.

Why bother whining about a question that I merely asked. If I wanted you to be rude, I would have included that within my subject. I asked for a simple opinion not some crazed STALKER fan to get his pubes in a tizzy. Chill out, douche.

It's like asking, I went sky diving twice and didn't like it. Does anyone think I'll like it the 3rd time? It's not like the games have gone through extensive changes, they're all pretty much the same with some minor variations. Maybe go with your instinct? I'm not trying to be rude, but you seem to be ignoring common sense.

The first two were great and the third is great. Not sure how you thought the graphics were bad, they're better than most games. And STALKER has one of the best stories around (Clear Sky's was kinda bad but that's it). If you absolutely hated the first two, don't get the third.

The graphics have been improved upon since Shadow of Chernobyl, but since it is based on an earlier engine, there are some areas that are lacking. Stalker games are all about the atmosphere, though, and the game is capable of looking both beautiful and downright terrifying.

If you found the first game boring or just not any fun, I don't think this new one would change your mind. But the Stalker games are far from terrible.

LOL that's a pretty retarded comparison, sir. I think you need review your posts before posting. Sky diving will continuously be the same experience unless of course you have a mishap and die on your third try, or come close to it. The game will continuously evolve, and offer different experiences to the player. It's called tiral and error, generally a game designer will realize what can be improved, and will improve it. Perhaps I should have worded my question that way so guys like you don't cry over me insulting your petty little game.

The Stalker series are going to be pretty much the same across the board. You really give the developers that much credit of making a unique and improved experience each time around? How many game series have you played? It's far more common for sequels and on to fall short of the original experience. They make a hit game, and then rush another game out the door banking on the success of the original. Look no further than the Stalker series, Clear Sky was considered by most to be worse than the original.

Hmm, interesting reply's... But anyway, what are your specs? I mean if you say that graphics are bad considering if you went back in time...would you really say they are bad? If I cranked up the graphic setting in this to the max even modding it further, that's basically more than real life almost. No cartoony crappy feeling like in crysis... Story wise, I think that fully exploring the world would make you say, how could you make that even better/ be able to do more than the game offers? that's why there are mods out there that make this game x3 better. I know it's my own personal thoughts, but when I walked around at midnight in this game with only a flashlight, I realised just how goddamn scared I was of nighttime. Plus I think the bugs are funny/helpfull sometimes too... But in overall I think you would enjoy it more with this game graphics/openness wise style. If you don't like the combat side of this game, its a bit better. Generally the best game out of all the 3, excluding mods.

Edit: When I was talking about the graphics I was saying that if you went back in time when Shadow of Chernobyl came out you wouldn't hate 'em. In fact love 'em. Clear sky, is a definite improvement graphic wise by ALOT. If you have the computer for it.

I personally hope CoP will be as good as SoC. I finished Clear Sky 30 minutes ago and was sorely dissapointed....lousy storyline (less intriguing than SoC), bad ending, faction system is garbage and the whole artifact system was messed up because I couldn't find any! So I personally hope Call of Pripyat comes back to what made Shadow of Chernobyl so great: atmosphere, creppy, awe-inspiring locales and a sense of mystery along with great gunbattles.

To be honest mate, I could 100% agree with you. And 100% disagree. A simple mod made a gigantic leap in success of the game. And also generally speaking CS was actually if you really look into it an improvement on some things that SoC had a big problem with. While everything else doesn't make the game too attractive, bugs mostly, and then a very dissapointing ending, and no-return zone.

The game is not "terrible" - you're just not in STALKER's target market. CoP is very similar to SoC and CS so I'll doubt you'll like it.

So essentially you're saying that I'm buying a pepperoni pizza, and then buying the same one at a later date with a new name? I don't think so, pal. It's not going to be the same in it's entirity. Some things can be fixed, and improved. If you do not credit game designers on that level why are you buying the sequels? I mean, afterall apparently you're just playing the same game with some different colors.

I still dont get how people can say the graphics are bad. They're great. It has this gritty feel to it which fits the games whole atmosphere. The lighting is some of the best ive seen in a game. The weather changing is just amazing. Its so awesome to get caught in a storm at night. It just looks amazing. Then when the storm starts to pass you see breaks in the clouds and the moons glow shines through and you can see the stars. Its just beautiful. The zone can beautifull and it can be hell which makes the zone so awesome. Mods also make it look even that much better.

CoP is by far the best Stalker game. Everything is improved, from the AI to the quests, artifact hunting and general RPG mechanics.

I totaly agree with you on all of what you have said. I was near the Jupiter facilite, walking around in the pitch black, with only a torch for navigation and omg when the lightning started it made the atmospher AMAZING, you would only see the torch light area but everytime the lightning flashed you would see everything for a split second and in that split second you may see ( like i did ) a pack of dogs prowling around you ready to have you for dinner. Along with the lightining makeing shadows from eveything when its flashed you also get the mist/god ray type things added with rain its just brilliant.

The thing is if your really wanting to understand and approciate this game you gota read the book that stalker is based on called a roadside picninc and know the history of the Chernobyl disaster and due to my brother going to Chernobyl/Pripyat for a photography trip and me reading up about it i love what stalker gives the player.

I am normaly a graphics hore but with games like STALKER i dont give a dam about the gfx as much, its all about the AI life going on around you, for example watching from atop a tower and watching stalker/mercs patrol and sneak up on mutants, along with mutant dogs attacking mutant boars and human patrols. At night seeing the camp fires dotted around the map with stalkers and bandits going about their life, monsters of the night looking for a feast or the sudden flashes of firefights between factions.

You gota look bast the basics of what make normal games good, gfx and big explostions, this games about the feeling, the envolement in this life going on around you, the atmosphere and the grittness of the story.

If I am here 5 years, I will not have the communications diarrhea necessary to crap out 20k posts. If I want advice about games with lots of typing, you will be my go-to Mavis Beacon. Go, Mavis, go!

Nah, I am new here. Hard to say how often I will post, but I am suggesting that it will take me much more than 5 years to create 20k posts.

Generally the best game out of all the 3, excluding mods.davidline

I have a rig good enough to run all current games on high or ultra highsettings. Currently I have an HD 5770 1GB by ATI Radeon. So you're telling me that the Stalker graphics mods are better than Crysis graphics mods? Would you also go a step further and say it puts Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 to shame? If this is the case, I may give the game another try this time with mods. Which I've not used thus far.

Killfox
...and they are about the same in all 3 games. Seriously they could have really improved the graphics for 2009-2010! No? just me? Must be dx9 then :P but i refuse to believe that there is so much diffirence between dx and stalker is "one of the best looking games out there"

the graphics are fine, seems people cant appreciate a good view distance and would rather a corridor like console shooter with a few nice texture maps built on top of a mechanical like world.

Which explains why COP is developed for a niche market, while Modern Warfare 2 is being bought in truckloads.

I tried to refrain from quoting this, but it's just not possible!

What does this have to do with anything? Of kind of guetto attitude is that? What, haven't he earned the right to be respect yet, is that it?

Geez, the things we read here...

The STALKER series is one of the most overrated in the eyes of hardcore PC gamers in my opinion. I never liked any of the three.
