Play STALKER Shadow Of Chernobyl First. Then play STALKER Call of Pripyat. If you love both of those games then go ahead and play STALKER Clear Sky, it's the worst out of the three but still very fun.

You can technically play them in any order you want, since there is no real continuous story line between the three games. Although Call of Pripyat does make a few references to both Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky. But its nothing that will keep you from enjoying the game. My opinion is that you should just start with the original Shadow of Chernobyl, and play with the Complete Mod (found here), as it adds a large number of gameplay fixes and visual improvements.

They are some of the best game on PC. Just because you didn't like them or sucked at them doesn't mean you should tell other people to stay away. That's just lame.

Well i did give the first game a shot since i bought the complete thq pack off of steam .. to be honest it was just really dull ..for something that is labeled as a survival horror-shooter .. i really dont get why the game is that great...

In my opinion, Stalker is decent but could have been better. There is FAR too much walking in the game, and constantly annoying enemies who provoke the bad hit detection all together, which makes getting objectives done a pain. But if you want a pretty much free roam FPS, then you're in for a treat.

TC, I think you should play them in the order that they were released so that the story unfolds as the developers intended. Start with Shadow of Chernobyl (with either Complete or L.U.R.K. mod), then play Clear Sky (again with Complete mod), and save Call of Pripyat for last.

I was actually about to make a thread asking if they sell all three games in a compilation before I saw this thread.

I'd be interested in picking it up if they did and I think it would make sense since you can't always find all three of them together anymore.

There is no bad hit detection. It wasn't even bad before the complete mods, the mods just made everything better. The games have amazing atmosphere and are some of the best free roam shooters around. Call of Pripyat is my all time favorite game. You just have to give the games a chance.

There are 3 games and they all are brilliant. Just because you didn't enjoy them doesn't mean they are horrible.Plus, there are voice overs and the story is good. Call of Pripyat is basically bug free. shows how much you know about the game. Please leave from this discussion since you are not helping it at all.

Yes you can, I did it myself. As for the other poster complaining about hit detection, these guns aren't precision beam rifles that you can hit a person from 2 miles away with (unless you get the precision beam rifle at the end of the game :P). These are old AKs that you have to crouch to shoot accurately (at long distances) and shoot in short bursts or else they spray all over the place. This isn't arcadey like MW2, you won't survive by spray and pray. You don't get a reliable long range weapon until aabout 1/3 of the way through, when you start geting NATO guns and the Vintorez or Drugonov snipers.

Alright, thanks all. I shall just play them in their release order and will look into the mods. Was looking for a good single player FPS and this one seemed rather unique.

They don't in retail atleast. Only the first could be hard to find since it's already been 3 years when that came out.

I would likely play them in the order, SoC, CoP, and then rounding off with CS, since CS has alot of the same areas it feels less "same same", if there is a different one between them.

It is one of my favorite game series this gen, but bear in mind that I like it for some of the same reasons others listed them as bad (all 2 of them). While a fps game, it is slower paced between gunfights (that on the other hand, will have you run and duck like a scared rabbit).

It is a very atmospheric game, that relys on survival, planning equipment, exploration, and picking your fights wisely, the world is full with things that are none too friendly, and playing with the mindset of say...HL2 or Haly (which I highly suspected some of the above posters to have done) you will die, alot, fast, and outta ammo with a jammed gun.

Also I Ironicly find the game to have some of the better shooting mechanics in recent memory, bullets have weight, drop, andgetting to know the specific weapon you use, is often the difference between being on top of the food chain, or at the bottom.

After a few hours with the game, I was landing headshots so regular that IGot annoyied whenever I just hit someone in thetorso.

It is true tho that when talking tonone central npcs you will only recieve text, which I think is fair, for a fps shooter this is so much bigger then just anything else out there, (OK Arma2 is bigger, and ironicly feelsa bit similarin the shooting mechanics, altho STALKERS guns feels more powerful).

So they are very atmospheric Survivalfps games, they get tense from time to time, altho creepy is a better term thenhorror.

I also have to add one more thing about the "bad hit detection," unlike most games, stalker doesn't treat bullets like lasers. This means that if you are shooting a moving target at a distance, you will have to aim slightly ahead of it because the bullet takes a bit of time to travel there and also drops slightly due to gravity. Like so:

Chronologically, it's Clear Sky, Shadow, then Pripyat. But the way you SHOULD play it (much like the way you should watch the star wars films) is original, sequel, then crappy prequel. Of course, I only played the original haha.

I think he can play them in the order he wants. There is no real reason to play them in order.

Nah, I can come up with a few good reasons. I think SoC and CoP prepares you more. See, I started with CS and I couldn't stand the constant fighting. CS really is a different game. After playing SoC, and walking back and forth and growing more and more accustomed to the Zone and its atmosphere, I can't stand the thought of not being a lone wolf-scavenger-thug. SoC, in my opinion, has the right pace for a newbie to the series.Youre not thrown into an anomaly field near the beginning of the game, nor are you thrust out into the wilderness at the first second like in CoP (though, like I said CoP is also a good start to the series).

TC, you should start with SoC. No introductions to certain factions or characters or even enemies will be a surprise to you. Sometimes they will, because that makes things interesting. Just don't start with CS; it leans more towards faction wars. (I wanted to fight live human enemies more after playing SoC, and I reinstalled CS with my newfound experience from SoC.)

Whatever you do, I wouldn't start out with CS. Not only is it the most difficult one to get into; the ending is a major spoiler that will make SoC's story very unexciting.

My suggestion would be SoC->CoP->CS. SoC first because it will suck you in with its bizarre story and its gameplay, and CoP later because you will really appreciate the gameplay improvements they made in that game. If you love both, CS is for you. If you think 'nah, I think I'll pass' before finishing SoC and/or CoP, CS probably isn't for you.

Uh, yeah, that's actually in STALKER as well and you can even adjust those things in CoP by modifying your guns. And I still can't believe you complain about STALKER's supposedly bad story when BFBC2 is apparently among your favourite games. Are you disappointed you aren't playing as a stereotypical American marine or something?

This is true, not everyone will like stalker, it seems to me a love/hate game. I couldnt get intro it when I first played it last year, I gave it another shot a few months ago and now the series is one of my favorites. I can see how people wouldnt like it, but there is always someone who dosent like something.

I have never played these games either, due the fact scary atmospheres really do scare me haha.... However I am getting SoC and giving it a good go to get into it, even though I will be jumping and getting scared a lot I presume. However there are a few mods floating around to sort out the bugs, which is the best one for SoC?

For SoC, the main ones everybody uses are Complete 2009, L.U.R.K, and Oblivion Lost. I think especially the latter 2 added a lot of new gameplay elements, while Complete mainly stuck to fixing the bugs and optimising graphics and sound etc. So I'd say Complete is a great bugfixing mod.

stalker is really really bold game , its to simple , story telling is told trough logs writen by 12 year old (like games did 15 years ago ? ) whole mechanics are way outdated , the gameplay is just repetative and boring as hell , most of the quests are fetch or go kill / loot something , i dont even know how can you guys enjoy that game ... Stalker cop proved once again that russians cant make games ...Farkeman

STALKER is simple, repetitive and boring? I'd like to get a hold of some of the stuff you must be smoking.

All your criticism basically comes down to unfounded blabbering that can't be countered because you fail to bring up even one valid point. 'Most of the quests are fetch or go kill / loot something'. Okay, let's assume this simplification is actually true, how does that make it a bad game? If those objectives are fun to execute (and they are for a lot of us it seems), then doing different variations on them will not get boring quick, especially if you encounter elements from many other genres along the way such as puzzling, surviving, exploring, and at occasions even platforming. Now tell me, which shooter does not consist of killing/conquering stuff or retrieving items for at least 90% of the time? Half-Life maybe? And maybe even STALKER itself, seeing as especially in CoP, the RPG and exploration elements play a bigger part than in the previous 2 games, and it at least makes for more distraction from the 'kill/loot something' concept you name that some of the most legendary shooters of all time, be they Doom or Crysis, still follow.

I don't think you can combine mods, no. But if you really dig the game, you're probably gonna want to play through it again, this time using a different mod.
