@DraugenCP dude tell me what makes stalker better then average game ? the game is below avarage at best ... it has nothing unique or anything that wasnt done before , story telling is boring and blend , i feel like i am playing 90s game where you have to read huge blocks of text to understand the story . Gunplay is outdated also , guns controlls are clunky , designs are fugly etc. The game just feels wrong in general ...Farkeman
CoP especially was a game that did sandbox FPS right. After many failed attempts such as Far Cry 2, this game gave you a good incentive to explore, because while the areas were compact, there were many points and objects of interests to be found. The A-Life engine made the gameplay nonscripted and unpredictable, which is quite a rarity in an age where everyone and their dog is trying to copy MW2 by producing unauthentic, generic and over-scripted crap. The atmosphere was one of the best and most convincing ever created, as day/night sequences really provided the player with a different experience and the aforementioned unpredictability generated by A-Life really emphasised the constant thread that would be natural to a post-apocalyptic setting. The presence of the other Stalkers (of whatever faction) and their mutual conflicts really made me feel like I was part of something bigger. The Zone itself was laden with its own set of stories, legend and mythology, and it can be really fun to try and figure out some of the more (intentionally) vague story elements.
In contrary to you, I really did like the gunplay. I'd immediately notice the huge difference when switching guns. This sounds like a given, but in many games the difference between SMGs and assault rifles manufactured on the complete opposite ends of the world is barely noticeable, not only in simplistic series like CoD, but also in more serious shooters such as the first FEAR game. Not to mention that the upgrading system in CoP really allows one to adjust whatever weapon to their own liking. This upgrading system was much more sophisticated and worthwhile than in the one of Crysis, for example. Yes, there are some seriously crappy guns out there, but that's because they really are crappy. It sure beats those games where you can snipe someone in the head with a shotgun or AK47 from a 100m+ distance.
I don't really know what your problem is against the story. Yes, there is quite some reading involved and they could've voiced it over, but it's still better than being interrupted by some arbitrary cutscene every 30 minutes, as this would really have dampened the immersion of the game. Though I admit that CoP especially should have cinematic cutscenes instead of clumsy in-game sequences that resembled Turok for the N64. But the story itself, especially of SoC, is still way more interesting than the disposable 'oh no aliens/commienazis are invading Earth/the USA' concept that dictates the storyline in literally about 90% of the shooters, so there's really no justification to try and specifically bring down STALKER for its story.
So now I answered your question, now why don't you answer mine? While we're at it, maybe you could also name a couple of shooters with good stories just to get an idea.

You're such a douche, this kid just liked having some attention online and here you come with a long winded post embarassing him to a point where he'll be left speechless. Though I'd love to see him try to counter-ague with "but storyz is bland lol BC2 best game evar has good story stalker only walking and my pants wet when play ffs".
Great post, nails most of the reasons I "wasted" a few weeks of my life exploring The Zone. It may not have the best writing, but the story in STALKER isn't in the campaign. It's in The Zone, the only game world I've been in that felt alive.

What can I say? I guess I've just had a bad childhood so I grew an inability to be friendly on the internet. :(:(:(
But yeah, the Zone is seriously one of the most vivid universes I've encountered in any game. The same could be said for the unmatched atmosphere, and that's coming from a huge Metroid fan. STALKER never was perfect, with the bugginess and occasional clumsy localisation often reeking of amateurism, but people tend to forget that GSC Gameworld doesn't have the same funds as companies like Valve and Bungie. So it's surprising enough for me that a relatively smalltime Ukrainian developer managed to create a series that made games such as Crysis, Call of Duty, and Battlefield collect dust on my shelf.

But about MW2. Is it russian or can you choose for it to be in English. And if it comes with Steam, isn't it supposed to find all servers? I'm not talking about starcraft 2, I'm just showing you the website.

He said nothing to offend you, therefore I see no reason to call him names.
Second of all, the video was made in March, and there was a patch recently in June. I for one have no problem with hit detection, and never did.
