I'm going to get one of these games at some point today, if anyone has any insight into which game is funner and just more immersive leave anything you think would help my decision.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah I've heard stalker is quite harsh if your new.
I'm one of those people who only play through a game once then move onto multiplayer or start using mods and im not sure Far Cry 2 multiplayer is good so I'm more looking into mods for these games and Far Cry mods seem to be on the lean side of things, as for stalker most mods are more just bug fixes and re-textures.
SoC no contest, its an unforgiving game, its a brutal game, and if the player messes up, he/she WILL feel the pain. But at its core it is a fair game, it is a varried game, and it has an interresting world, with factions, and people whom are not always out to kill you.
Faults:
it has no tutorial, you are dropped into the world, with very few pointers, you learn as you fight, look around, and talk to npcs.
It is really hard at the beginning, due to the random nature of the game, you could very much be unlucky to meet an enemy who has a smg while you stillonly have a handgun
A bit frickly, saving and then loading a game may have some odd ai quirks, altho msotly funny.
Everyone can die from a wellplaced headshot, EVEN the player, everyone is on a level playing field, so it is very unlike most FPS games where the main character is more like a tank then a man, ofcourse it can be a bit annoying to have your head ventilated by a sniper from somewhere unknown.
FC2 is one of the biggest letdowns this gen, there is so much potential, and you can see it, but the execution is so annoying that it is almost unbearingly so.
No factions altho the game sets it up to seem like it, truth is when youre outside citys every living human is pretty much out to kill you
patrol point enemies respawn, not by time but by meters you are away from said point, so they respawn, ALOT.
The game offers alot of missions, they are however always the same cut/paste missions, just placed differently, the main missions are somewhat better, but has the biggest plothole known to man.
The enemy will always see you, and I can not count how many times some ugly lil car ran off the road because they instinctly knew I was driving a car nearby, hint: there are ALOT of those car patrols.
Maleria is the most annoying gameplay mechanic Ive seen in a game
The base premise of both games ironically are somewhat the same, and they aim to do somewhat the same, a more in character, brutal "live with the world, survive by adapting" mentality, they are both hard-ish and less forgiving then the run of the midd FPS game, but while SoC looks and feels a bit cheaper in production value it is the game that nailes the feelings of isolation, constnt fight for survival, and the need to use your head, and notice the surroundings the best.

Well far cry 2 aint bad on that either, you attack and change your position before the enemy squad gets to your positon, its just more agreesive and change tactics on the fly and less thinking. Kinda cool.
Well both games aren't really the highest flyers in my opinion allthough i prefer far cry 2 above stalker. I have started stalker soc but i quit after a few hours , i find the graphics a little dated. Far cry 2 however isn't a great game but it felt like a great game for a while though. The environments are beautifull , the gameplay can get a little repetitive but still it kept me gaming for 2 days straight and i only got a little bored the second day. With stalker i quit after two hours.
I would certainly buy far cry 2 if you haven't played it before but there are some other games it would try first if you haven't played them like crysis, oblivion, mass effect 1&2, dead space 1&2, assasins creed 1&2 , fallout 3, fallout new vegas, gears of war and don't miss out on borderlands. If you like multiplayer cod black ops.
I'll have to go with Stalker because Far Cry 2 was techniclly impressive, but the I hated the story and the game was very repetative.

STALKER for sure
with that said, I dont understand the hate Far Cry 2 gets...I only played 4 hours of it or so, but I thought it was well done.

far cry 2 and immersive dont go together I found FC2 boring and repatitive Stalker is imo one of the best fps gamesadamosmaki
Well it is immersive when it comes to graphics, animations and how your player interacts with the world. But the campaign is crap. That's where Stalker is a lot better.
STALKER is the correct answer to this question.

I felt the same after 4 hours or so.
But after another 4 hours, it became apparent I was doing the same handful of missions over and over and over and over and over.
And after another few hours, I decided I never wanted to play it again.
I actually like Far Cry 2, even though there's not much story, and it's very repetitive, but -
Stalker is a MUCH better game. Don't miss it

hmmm guess I quit at the right time :P
Don't understand what's so boring about far cry 2, yesa lot ofmissions are a bitrepetitive but the gameplay is just heaps of fun the amount of guns and upgrades you can do the battles with the car, the african landscape. I think the game has wonderfull atmosphere.
I like a lot more running around in africa than in tsernobyl which btw has inferior graphics. The animations in stalker look also way to old, so do the physics it feels like a game from 2002. Far cry 2 however is very beautiful, no other game captures the environment of africa and africanwarfarethis well and it feels like a game of this gen.
You may have had a lot of fun playing stalker when it came out but that's some time ago. I've started it this year and was bored with it after when i saw the first gunfights and monsters. It reminded me of operation flashpoint graphics and the monsters , man that's just previous gen. The only thing that really bothered me in far cry2 was that there weren't enough animals, that there were no lions and that you couldn't prone.
I mean also in far cry 2 you have to sleep, time passes by and the sun and environment acts to it accordingly. The explosions, fire, gunplay are way above stalker. Creeping up on some settlementwith therising sun or at dusk is just awesome.Stalker may have some richer gameplay features but damn who cares if it looks ugly and if you shoot someone the death animation looks like a rotating gif.
Look at this screenshots of far cry 2

As you can see buildings, charactars , vehicles look good but the some monsters and especially the nature looks too ugly for me. I haven't used the complete 2009 mod maybe that's a big change. Far cry 2 looks awesome imo and the i really like the gunfights they are extremely well done, even the story i like. It's just african civil war, maybe that's not as interesting as mutated animals in stalker but i did like it a lot more. Far Cry 2 shouldn't have called far cry 2 howeverThis isn't far cry 2, it has nothing to do with far cry 1 but it's still a good game, a lot better than stalker imo.
All I really see here is Far Cry 2 is better because of the graphics. Then you go and find **** pictures of STALKER so you can make your point....unbelievable. I take that back it is believable. On top of all this you say "Far Cry 2 has teh sleep and da sun and da moon and da time it chagez." I'm going to take a wild stab and say you have NOT played STALKER.Don't understand what's so boring about far cry 2, yesa lot ofmissions are a bitrepetitive but the gameplay is just heaps of fun the amount of guns and upgrades you can do the battles with the car, the african landscape. Stalker is the better game, it's also more immersive, it's unique, it's one of the best shooters I've played. However it's difficult to get into, it's unforgiving, and there's a lot of stuff to learn but no tutorial.GeneralShowzer
Pretty much this. I just started Shadow of Chernobyl, but the game doesn't exactly hold your hand.

Well it's just my opinion, the last picture isn't an ugly picture of stalker but the nature, grass and the monsters i have seen (you're right i haven't played stalker fully because i quit after a few hours). Also the animations an physcis were for me outdated , stalker may have been the better game in the past but far cry 2 is newer, graphics , physics are better. Far cry 2 and stalker get's 8.5 on gamespot and far cry 2 is a 1.5 year newer. I just say i don't like the graphics of staker and the animations, it feels old to me.
Maybe stalker gets a lot better after a few hours and i should give it another try but seeing those dogs, the gunplay and nature just felt to me like playing an old game and so i quit.
