Both Good Games, I'd have to pick Stalker though because it's more immersive and although you can just as Easily ignore the Storyline in both games, it's more prominant in Stalker imo, it was too jumbled up for me in Farcry 2.

Physics, you say? #1 screenshot - "Online contacts", yeah, that's an old build #2 screenshot - can't remember that locale, again, old build Third screenshot looks fishy, too. Not to mention those Far Cry 2 pictures are HORRIBLE, they're all 800x600 and below, and in .jpg format. Cherry pick better. The only worthwhile thing about Far Cry 2 is stealth - and that's only because the alternative to that are tedious gunfights. Oh, and you really learn how to speed through a checkpoint. It features a dead world, where every friendly or neutral NPC you meet is in a designated "safe" zone ('cept buddies, who I never used). Fifty square kilometers of nothing more than diamond briefcases and the never-ending 5-minute respawning checkpoints. This is coming from someone who finished it twice (96 and 100%). Shadow of Chernobyl is not only a better looking game (I've only ever played the vanilla version), it's also ten times the experience. Burning grassy areas can only be fun for so long... Even if Far Cry's 2 graphics are better (I'll grant you this for the sake of the argument), glitz matters none if it features no substance and that's what Far Cry 2 ultimately, and sadly, lacks. It just feels like they've given up after completing the game-world.By Zeus, one game scored arbitrarily higher 1.5 years later!Far cry 2 and stalker get's 8.5 on gamespot and far cry 2 is a 1.5 year newer.Frosal
I loled my ars of, good vid
I beat both games, and while both are worth it, Shadow of Chernobyl is much, much better. It's a bit rough around the edges, which may make it seem a bit amateuristic in comparison with Far Cry 2's polished look and feel, but the game design is really much deeper and better in Stalker. The free roaming aspect isn't very worthwhile, but the campaign itself is rock solid, which is more than I can say of Far Cry 2. In FC2, you just do the same thing all game long. Sure, you can do every mission in lots of different ways, but the game just has no pacing and is predictable as hell.
All I really see here is Far Cry 2 is better because of the graphics. Then you go and find **** pictures of STALKER so you can make your point....unbelievable. I take that back it is believable. On top of all this you say "Far Cry 2 has teh sleep and da sun and da moon and da time it chagez." I'm going to take a wild stab and say you have NOT played STALKER.[QUOTE="millerlight89"]

Don't understand what's so boring about far cry 2, yesa lot ofmissions are a bitrepetitive but the gameplay is just heaps of fun the amount of guns and upgrades you can do the battles with the car, the african landscape. I think the game has wonderfull atmosphere.
I like a lot more running around in africa than in tsernobyl which btw has inferior graphics. The animations in stalker look also way to old, so do the physics it feels like a game from 2002. Far cry 2 however is very beautiful, no other game captures the environment of africa and africanwarfarethis well and it feels like a game of this gen.
You may have had a lot of fun playing stalker when it came out but that's some time ago. I've started it this year and was bored with it after when i saw the first gunfights and monsters. It reminded me of operation flashpoint graphics and the monsters , man that's just previous gen. The only thing that really bothered me in far cry2 was that there weren't enough animals, that there were no lions and that you couldn't prone.
I mean also in far cry 2 you have to sleep, time passes by and the sun and environment acts to it accordingly. The explosions, fire, gunplay are way above stalker. Creeping up on some settlementwith therising sun or at dusk is just awesome.Stalker may have some richer gameplay features but damn who cares if it looks ugly and if you shoot someone the death animation looks like a rotating gif.

As you can see buildings, charactars , vehicles look good but the some monsters and especially the nature looks too ugly for me. I haven't used the complete 2009 mod maybe that's a big change. Far cry 2 looks awesome imo and the i really like the gunfights they are extremely well done, even the story i like. It's just african civil war, maybe that's not as interesting as mutated animals in stalker but i did like it a lot more. Far Cry 2 shouldn't have called far cry 2 howeverThis isn't far cry 2, it has nothing to do with far cry 1 but it's still a good game, a lot better than stalker imo.
evildead6789
Well it's just my opinion, the last picture isn't an ugly picture of stalker but the nature, grass and the monsters i have seen (you're right i haven't played stalker fully because i quit after a few hours). Also the animations an physcis were for me outdated , stalker may have been the better game in the past but far cry 2 is newer, graphics , physics are better. Far cry 2 and stalker get's 8.5 on gamespot and far cry 2 is a 1.5 year newer. I just say i don't like the graphics of staker and the animations, it feels old to me.
Maybe stalker gets a lot better after a few hours and i should give it another try but seeing those dogs, the gunplay and nature just felt to me like playing an old game and so i quit.
The complete mod is a big change. That's one of the reasons it has "complete" in its title. :P It really does make the game look great, though.

Well, graphics aside, it may just not be your thing. Different strokes for different folks.
Far Cry 2 is pretty much panned by everyone for being a horrible game. STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl is considered one of the best FPS in recent years and has a strong cult following that claim it to be the best thing since sliced bread. Get STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl and if you like that pick up Call of Pripyat.

Stalker with the complete mod looks amazing. The textures are great, and lighting is amazing. I don't really care much about animations, so it's a really good looking game to me. Those pictures you posted honestly look like a different game. I only played with the complete mod, but I doubt it looks that bad unmodded.

Well i installed the complete mod now and i must say it's a world of difference, without the mod the game looks plain ugly now it looks a lot better even some stuff i might say beautiful. Some stuff still bothers me , like is there any blood or gore? and if you bring up the stats window what does tps and rfps mean
well i'm at it now for a while and i must say far cry 2 hands down lol. It's just a much much better game than stalkerevildead6789
At first I didn't like Stalker. It was too hard and it ran like crap on my older rig. But then I got a new PC and I tried Stalker one more time but this time with the Complete 2009 mod installed and graphics on maximum. Again at first the game didn't seem all that great, still too hard and all, even though it now looked great. But after a while it became better and I have to say that the second half of the game was a blast. I'm not exaggerating by saying it was almost as fun as Deus Ex and that means something. I finished Stalker 3 more times during 2008-2010 period.
On the other hand my experience with Far Cry 2 was exactly the opposite. At first I had a lot of fun with it and I really thought this is going to be a superb game but after 2 hours the game stopped being so good and after 4 hours I was dying of boredom. It's just a very shallow game despite it's gorgeous graphics.
So out of these two Stalker: SoC is just the better game.

Well i suppose i will try to play a little more then. I don't find it hard though.
Far Cry 2 was the better game. I recently beat it, have beaten Clear Sky, and am currently dabbling around with SoC. It's not that Stalker is a bad game- it's just that Far Cry 2 is generally better, though it does have some very annoying parts to it (namely the everyone wants to kill you and respawning guardposts parts).LongZhiZiI felt the same, although i would reccoment to skip soc and go to CoP,so much better, if they only added vehicles. As for the respawns, i enjoyed killing them, i dont know why, they wanted agressive gameplay, i gave it to them.
I really dunno how people can say Far Cry 2 is better, are we even playing the same game? was so freakin linear.V4LENT1NEI wonder the same thing. It had large maps, vehicles, more snipping, diffirent take on survival, diffirent weapons. It was diffirent therefore potentially better or worse depending on opinion. For one, i couldnt see why stalker was better. Weapons and armors were constant upgrades instead of feel diffirent so suit diffirent player types. Also it really pissed me off how small and linear the maps where. You kept going to the next map till you get to Pripyat. Also no vehicles and snce the story was missing half of the time. Might as well make it repettive like far cry 2. Thus why i liked far cry 2 more.
I really dunno how people can say Far Cry 2 is better, are we even playing the same game? There was one enemy the entire game, all missions were practically the same, respawns constant after just 10 minutes, everything about that game except graphics was so freakin linear.V4LENT1NE
One enemy, it are all humans yes, i don't suppose you want monkeys with machineguns. This is about african civil war. Nobody's arguing there's only one type of enemy in call of duty. The gunplay in far cry2 is far superior than in stalker, the environments are better, the ai is better. In stalker the gunplay , physics and death animations feel old

But they went from Far Cry with great AI and multiple enemys to killing the same looking African guy over and over again for 10 hours. I dont know how you can say the environment is Far Cry is better, its the same all the way through, STALKER also has better real time bullet drop with way more going on when you fire. As for the physics and death animations they didnt look old to me at all.[QUOTE="evildead6789"][QUOTE="V4LENT1NE"]I really dunno how people can say Far Cry 2 is better, are we even playing the same game? The gunplay is a bit outdated if you compare it with far cry 2, the graphics too. I mean if you compare theexplosions , smoke, flora and fauna. Maybe stalker has very good elements with the inventory system but the graphics, physics an AI are far beneath far cry 2. Allthough with the complete mod it looks better, still far cry 2 is a much better game, but i'm still playing stalker and i kinda like it now but far cry 2 is still heaps better. Anyway we'll see maybe it get's better but for now it still feels like a previous gen game.
Saying you have to shoot the same african guy all over again, well there are a lot of different models so i assume you mean the respawning, well maybe than a minus for far cry 2 but that doesn't make the game bad. Besides the respawning only happens when you're at some distance. I know it's one of the cons of far cry 2 but this doesn't kill the game. The graphics , physics, graphics, gameplay are still way better than stalker.
Actually all this talk about far cry 2 makes me want to buy it for pc (i played it on x360) just to see how the graphics do on my pc.

It wasn't even an X number of feet respawn- it's just whether you went into the next section of the map, which sometimes you did for a minute to finish a mission, came back, and everything's respawned. That said, I did really enjoy the combat, so taking out the guardposts usually was fun. The game really should've had mod support- I would've loved to see a mod that made enemies roam a bit more, making exploring the wilderness a bit more interesting.
I'm going to get one of these games at some point today, if anyone has any insight into which game is funner and just more immersive leave anything you think would help my decision.
Thanks in advance.

I found Stalker to be more fun and more immersive. Far Cry 2 has better graphics and more polish but Stalker is far less repetitve, offers more challenge and was a lot more fun for me.
Far cry 2 no quetion I fell in love with that game after my first day of playing it.
Stalker on the other hand I gave up after a 2 or 3 hours or so.
Bottomline get far cry 2 its a blast to play.
Why is stalker such a good game. I don't get why everybody loves it so much.Darksonic666Interesting, very atmospheric gameworld, sound and visual direction. Game world that is governed by a global a.i. - things happen regardless of the players actions. Emphasis on survival with sharp, harsh gunplay. Exploration is encouraged and rewarding. Variety of enemies, animals, supernatural and science fiction that is compelling. High level of interaction with the game world. Interesting plot that is a good step outside the FPS genre norm. Actually nails the horror elements well, due to enemy design, visuals, sound and pacing. That being said it has it's faults - the narrative is terribly told (hope you enjoy reading text boxes, huge ones at that), and the game is best played modded (Complete, LURK or AMK). That and CoP is better than SoC in every way excluding some interesting areas from the first, and having not nearly as engaging central plot.... and Clear Sky wasn't good at all.
i'm still busy with stalker, it's keeping me interested . Better graphics would really change a lot and i'm already using the complete mod, oh well i guess i will be playing crysis , ups , crysis 2...evildead6789
Why do you keep complaing about the graphics? It's not like they're bad or anything, apart from the crappy animations and foliage. In fact, while the graphics may not be the most technically refined, the art styIe makes the game more visually appealing to me than many other games, including Far Cry 2.

Clear sky is the prequal to SOC and is the worst of the 3, its not a bad game at all but its not as good. Call of Pripyat is the one i liked the most.I actually forgot I posted this, but I actually since posting this have bough both games and been half way through Stalker and then bought Far Cry 2 and played that until around 10% and then over the past month I have bought so many games in the Steam sales, I haven't started half of them!
So far Stalker has been a much better game though, Far Cry is fairly easy and linear in comparison to some games I have played lately.
