@serilder: Your buying the game and extra's... Not just a ship. I backed 45 bucks for a ship and an extra 15 for some in game cash for the online when it releases so a total of $60 and I get the game the ship and a bunch of in game cash and extra's that came in the package. As well as access to the game it's online persistent universe, player owned servers and the alpha and beta versions of the game. So I purchased at a base price of $45 a game and all it's iterations, and a ship and extra in game stuff. Seems like more then just a ship too me. If anything I preordered the best preorder I've ever gotten as I actually get to play with my pre order game and all it's iterations till it launches and all the iterations after.

Maybe I don't understand the concept of Star Citizen but why would I play a progression-based game where players can just buy everything? How would this be different than if Sony started selling giant tanks in Planetside 2 that dominated infantry, and could only be unlocked with $30 or 300 hours of playtime? And at least PS2 is free :P

the concept of star citizen is to promise the moon and stars, get peoples money years in advance, and then gradually cancel or indefinitely delay promised features after they can do nothing about it.

welcome to what is considered by gamers to be a shining example of game development in 2015.

back in the day, you didnt give anyone money until you had the game in your hand, and it was 100% finished.... there were no patches or bullshit after release development... and developers were GRATEFUL for your money. now they make you feel like an asshole if you dont give them money years before the game even comes out, and gamers jump all over your nuts if you speak out about it.

I just don't get it. Some of you guys flame @goodkingmog but you are allowed to spout nonsense about how much this game is a godsend? A person can have a different opinion. If you want to see the game succeed and he wants to see it fail....why is he the bad guy? You are just as bad to blindly follow a game that sells ships For anywhere from 2-40x the price of a normal game. YES, you can call it a pledge all you want but we all know you are buying a ship. Sorry but the game isn't even close to done and you are buying items in it.

Best of luck on your game but do yourself a favor and keep the hate off. Some people are going to dislike what you like.

dont speak logic... people on gamespot dont understand opinions. if you like something, you are automatically the good guy and if you dont like something, you are automatically the bad guy.

I agree that attacking individuals has no place here. However, to the content of the original post there's a big difference between thinking that a game will fail and -wanting- a game to fail. I have yet to hear anyone give a compelling reason for why anyone should -want- a game to fail beyond personal biases such as vitriol towards the developer, the game type, or the community that enjoys the game. While I can certainly understand the perspective that it’s unlikely this game will succeed with its massive budget and increase in scale, that’s totally different from wishing the game to fail for the schadenfreude derived glee of others being wrong about the game.

If you’re interested in fostering a reasonable discussion, try coming out of the gate with less incendiary comments.

The current monetization model of SC does bug me a bit, but the fact that you can buy ships now that you’ll have in the game doesn’t necessarily make the game “Pay 2 Win”. If the game comes out and it turns out that everyone who bought the most expensive ships just destroys all the players who didn’t at launch, then sure, all the complaints will have been justified.

However, it doesn’t look anything like that’s the case. The latest $400 ship released, for example, is a luxury passenger liner. I doubt it’ll last in a fight against my $55 300i. Different ships serve different roles, and more importantly they need to be outfitted. I have 60 mil in Elite Dangerous, which gives me more than enough to buy a Fer De Lance (an excellent fighter that can hold a lot more than my current fighter) but I am holding off because that’s not a smart idea right now. The FDL only costs about 40 mil, but to effectively outfit it it’s going to run me closer to another 100 mil to do it right. If I buy it now, it’ll be significantly worse than the fully equipped Vulture I’m currently flying.

Okay, add personal bias towards the "subject matter" of the game to the list... :)

A destroyer in EvE online can cost $3 million, but to outfit it can run up to $10+ million depending on the role you plan to play. Even if you pay the full premium on the insurance you'd still lose out on all the money spent on the weapons and mod for the ship. If CIG implements an economy system similar to Eve online i doubt will we be seeing many expensive ships running around killing newbies just for the hell of it.

My main concern is the fact that you can currently buy ingame currency with real money. I know CIG has an system in place to avoid abuse, but i'd rather they just remove the ability to buy credits all together.

That is not an opinion (you know, the word you told me to google). That is a gratuitous accusation. Google it.

its a forum, i can talk about whatever i please as long as im not flaming another user. if i want a game to fail, i dont have to justify it to you or anyone else. there just so happens to be MANY reasons why i would like star citizen to fail... but that wasnt the topic of the thread, so why would i talk about it? the topic of the thread was.... promised feature.... now indefinitely delayed.... MEANWHILE they offer a new 400 dollar ship.

i really dont care if you dont agree with me. that is your prerogative. we dont all have to have the same opinion. the issue is, some people dont know how to separate opinion from their emotions. im sorry that you dont agree with me, but my opinion is my opinion. get over it. its only incendiary if you are an asshole and take comments about videogames personally. if that is a case, my overwhelming suggestion is.... get a life.

Except we both know that you -have- flamed people in this thread and got at least one post deleted. If this is your idea of keeping it civil I think this thread has run its course. Everyone has made their points and whether or not everyone agrees at the end is not important. I can see that this is just going downhill from here so I'm going to lock this down before it goes any further.
