It's hard to hype up something so generic through gameplay footage alone.

THA-TODD-BEAST

If by generic you mean, the most anticipated game from the most respected game developer in history, then yes.

Well the generic "10" Gears of War certainly had a pathetic marketing campaign, who knows what Blizz can achieve with a game that is not generic, has superb commercials and actually deserves a 10.

A lot of game commercials are misleading in that sense. You often just see cinematics and that kind of stuff in these teaser-like trailers. Whenever I'm hesitating whether or not to buy a game, I just look up gameplay footage on YouTube.

I think he got Starcraft confused with Command and Conquer (not Red Alert).

Most respected developer in history? I wouldn't even put Blizzard above Valve or Nintendo.

Well, commercials are meant to create hype and Blizzard did a good job of it. Anyone who buys the game expecting the gameplay to be as epic as the cinematics deserves to be disappointed.

But I am pretty interested in the fact that they are even advertising this PC exclusive game. I rarely see PC exclusives advertised on TV, even big exclusives like HL2.

Blizzard did exactly the same thing with World of Warcraft. They advertised the game to be as appealing as possible to attract new and old players, and it obviously worked, not just the cinematics but the gameplay was solid for newcomers to adapt. And i would also like to add that I'm getting SC2 mainly for the Single player. The story and lore sounds intriguing and I'm confident that i will like the gameplay. I'm a newbie when it comes to RTS games (CoH, DoW2), so I'm hoping everything goes well.

Anyone else think that the Starcraft 2 ad they have on tv is extremely misleading and a terrible representation of the game? I was watching tv with a friend who plays games, but not too often, and he said "wow that game looks pretty cool". Then I asked him, do you know what star craft is? And he said "A shooter?".

They make the game look like some sort of epic action game and don't even give a hint at what the game really is.

EDIT: I am not saying anything bad about the game itself. I think it looks like its going to be great, but I am just talking about the commercial, which if you haven't seen, can be watched here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZsLUdsIZeo

misleading? No, the problem is the youth of today thinking every game is a shooter because someone has a gun in their hand.

I love valve, they make fantastic games. But you don't hear people talking about valve in the same reverence they use when they talk about blizz. Also, blizzcon.

Nintendo, lol.

Nope. They are showing the legendary cinematics, which is a large part of why the games are awesome.

GummiRaccoon

How do cinematics make the game awesome?

Because fans of blizzard games also play for the story. Not just PEW PEW LASERBEAMS LULZ boomheadshot

+1 That was great. Good on ya! The CG/cinematics are a great way to break up gameplay/briefings for story/atmosphere purposes. Like any other game.

Would you rather them have used this for their commercial?

those trailers sure are good looking (hell, propably the best looking game trailers i've seen yet), but i can understand if gets someone confused, if they know nothing about Starcraft.

to be honest, for a minute i forgot myself too that i was looking at a trailer for RTS game. they ain't usually about the immersion or story.

While I love the commercial, I have to agree. It doesn't even show 1 second of actual play, which is deceptive, both of the graphical quality, but more importantly the entire nature of the game.
