It's hard to hype up something so generic through gameplay footage alone.

If by generic you mean, the most anticipated game from the most respected game developer in history, then yes.

Well the generic "10" Gears of War certainly had a pathetic marketing campaign, who knows what Blizz can achieve with a game that is not generic, has superb commercials and actually deserves a 10.It's hard to hype up something so generic through gameplay footage alone.

I think he got Starcraft confused with Command and Conquer (not Red Alert). It's hard to hype up something so generic through gameplay footage alone.

Most respected developer in history? I wouldn't even put Blizzard above Valve or Nintendo.
Well, commercials are meant to create hype and Blizzard did a good job of it. Anyone who buys the game expecting the gameplay to be as epic as the cinematics deserves to be disappointed.
But I am pretty interested in the fact that they are even advertising this PC exclusive game. I rarely see PC exclusives advertised on TV, even big exclusives like HL2.
Anyone else think that the Starcraft 2 ad they have on tv is extremely misleading and a terrible representation of the game? I was watching tv with a friend who plays games, but not too often, and he said "wow that game looks pretty cool". Then I asked him, do you know what star craft is? And he said "A shooter?".
They make the game look like some sort of epic action game and don't even give a hint at what the game really is.
EDIT: I am not saying anything bad about the game itself. I think it looks like its going to be great, but I am just talking about the commercial, which if you haven't seen, can be watched here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZsLUdsIZeo
misleading? No, the problem is the youth of today thinking every game is a shooter because someone has a gun in their hand.[QUOTE="GummiRaccoon"]

I love valve, they make fantastic games. But you don't hear people talking about valve in the same reverence they use when they talk about blizz. Also, blizzcon.
Nintendo, lol.

Nope. They are showing the legendary cinematics, which is a large part of why the games are awesome.
GummiRaccoon
How do cinematics make the game awesome?
Because fans of blizzard games also play for the story. Not just PEW PEW LASERBEAMS LULZ boomheadshot
+1 That was great. Good on ya! The CG/cinematics are a great way to break up gameplay/briefings for story/atmosphere purposes. Like any other game.those trailers sure are good looking (hell, propably the best looking game trailers i've seen yet), but i can understand if gets someone confused, if they know nothing about Starcraft.
to be honest, for a minute i forgot myself too that i was looking at a trailer for RTS game. they ain't usually about the immersion or story.
