Well you say that DoW2's units will be cookie cutter like, but I don't see that happening. Of course each faction in general will be more similar to one another that in SC2, but DoWs units won't have AoE syndrome. Space Marine Tac Squads will have 3 people in them, with a good range and CC and will be very tough. Ork Boyz on the other side will have 8 per squad and are very good at CC, but they can barely hit anything at range and they have low armor.

On a side note, I found the System Requirements for DoW 2 and I posted them here.

Yeah, I admit, AoE Syndrome was a bit of an exaggeration. But still, the point is there. The factions in the first DoW games were rather similar to one another, and DoW2 doesn't appear to be doing much to resolve that.

Dawn of war 2 and Starcraft 2 pro's and con's so far.

Dawn of war 2 pro's so far

+ Insane Physics.

+ Dark Atmosphere/WH40K setting.

+ Co-op multiplayer campaign

+ Sync Kills

+ Most brutal RTS ever, meaning there will be LOTS OF BLOOD AND GORE.

Dawn of war 2 Con's so far,

- lame storyline

- cant capture the atmosphere of the books

- unbalanced without much support multiplayer

Starcraft 2 Pro's so far,

+ perfect balance between factions

+ incredible storyline with the characters we all loved

+ Truely diverse factions.

+ Battle.net, great online play, great custom maps.

+ Innovative sp campaign.

Starcraft 2 Con's,

- outdated gameplay mechanics

- limited physics

gogators4life

fixed it for ya :D

Starcraft 2 has the edge imo but i'm getting both...

I changed a few things I saw fit in the original.

Blue = Additions

Red = Removed sections.

Dawn of war 2 and Starcraft 2 pro's and con's so far.

Dawn of war 2 pro's so far

+ Insane Physics.

+ Dark Atmosphere/WH40K setting.

+ Co-op multiplayer campaign

+ Sync Kills

+ Most brutal RTS ever, meaning there will be LOTS OF BLOOD AND GORE.

+ Ranged and Melee Combat for most units

+ Large amounts of customization (Army painter & Wargear)

+ Innovative sp campaign.

Dawn of war 2 Con's so far,

- Largly Unknown Storyline (Formerly lame storyline. I changed it because you cannot tell, the game is not even out yet)

- REMOVED (cant capture the atmosphere of the books is just stupid because not only the books are based off the games, and also once again you haven't played the game)

- Not as balanced or varied as SC (Formerly:unbalanced without much support multiplayer, this is also stupid as the game is not out and Relic is known for its MP support)

Starcraft 2 Pro's so far,

+ Great reputation forperfect balance between factions

+Sequal to an incredible storyline with the characters we all loved

+ Truely diverse factions.

+ Battle.net, great online play, great custom maps.

+ Innovative sp campaign.

+ Almost Guarenteed long lasting MP support and community (based off the original SC)

Starcraft 2 Con's,

- outdated gameplay mechanics

- limited physics

Please don't take me as a DoW Fanboi or a Blizzard Hater because I love Blizzard, Starcraft and Warcraft. I just thought some things were left out, or incredibly bias without support.

EDIT

I don't know how long ago this was, but RIP Gogators4life. He was one of the few good people in the world who accepted Dawn of War and Starcraft.

Just one thing, the gameplay systems in Relic's RTS games have existed and been implements in Wargames for ages (ie. Close Combat) Relic's innovation was not inventing them but taking them and adding base building to them, which is in my mind two different things. So you can't call gameplay that existed since StarCraft new or the mechanics of StarCraft outdated. Second of all some decisions on Relic's part such as non directional defences, removing oil and having only two 'real' resources coupled with the fact the areas can't be cut off makes me feel that certain mechanics are being 'dumbed down'

Getting both, but I'm actually more excited for DOWII. DOW 1 and DOW 2 are not the same game with an updated skin.

Let me preface by saying that I played SC for years and basically dismissed any RTS as a pile a garbage... Then Company of Heroes came along and I realized that the RTS genre had been moved forward more then any previous game before it. A new found respect for Relic was born and I eagerly await DOW2, which borrows so many aspects of COH and places it in the WH40k universe.

I'd suggest getting both games if you know whats good for you.

let's see....on one hand it's Starcraft 1.5, with 1.51 and 1.52 slated to be released in 20XX; on the other hand, a Warhammer 40k game without Chaos.

nope, not getting both. but if i absolutely HAD to, i would choose DoW2.

Last I checked you cant make you Terran Marines charge into Melee or use those scythes on a hydralisk.

I din't realise Relic that Relic invented melee combat or that StarCraft was a wargame? Please know what youa re talking about before you spout BS.

Hmm, I'm getting both, along with Empire Total War. I never played the original Starcraft, so Starcraft 2 is a must for me. The Dawn of War series are my favorite series of RTS games so far, so I have to get the sequel. I'd have to vote for DoW 2 though, sincwe I never played SC1.

In Starcraft, its either seige tank rush, zealot rush, or zerg rush CONSTANTLY from what I have played online. All you have to do is create fodder long enough for your enemy to run out of attackers and then do a counter attack and the whole process keeps repeating.

Erm, what? Watch some pro StarCraft VODs and get back to us. ;)

Dawn of War 2, Starcraft 2 looks like Starcraft with better graphics..sure fanboys will drool over it (i will too) but I see no inovations are leaps foward in terms of gameplay in the game.
