I was just on the blizzard site looking at the units in the game so far. The odd thing though is that the excitement didn't fill me as I expected but a feeling of fear. As I looked at the new units and seeing that some of my favorite units were tossed out on their butts I began to worry....began to wonder if Starcraft 2 would grab me like Starcraft did or would it be another RTS that ends up on my shelf of "Meh, play when I get bored of everything else". Now brings me to the question, am I the only person out there that is nervous seeing Starcraft 2 being released or is everyone just enjoying them changing everything?

Can't remember being deceived from Blizzard.. Their RTS are always good games and they do bring some new stuffs from time to time, but never at the expense of the gameplay.

Well tbh, I never really played the original Starcraft. My friend let me borrow Brood Wars for a few days (and it was pretty friggin awesome :D) but then he wanted it back lol. So that being said, I just want them to make a great game worthy of the Starcraft name, and I think the tweaking and changing that they are doing will help them achieve that.

Everyone doubted the changes Valve made to Team Fortress, but look at it now!

I'm positive that SC2 will be a hit.

The one thing I don't want to see is the hero system from WC3 come in. It just ruined the whole "Huge army" feel that the original WC and WC2 gave me as I seemed to have to rely on the heroes to much.

"Q:What is the role of heroes in StarCraft II? Will they be the same as in StarCraft? "

"A:StarCraft II campaign heroes will fulfill roles similar to what appeared in the original StarCraft single player experience, but they will have even more unique abilities from standard units, and will be more innovatively integrated into the story campaign. Heroes will not be buildable in multiplayer."

Anyways yeah SC2 will be a hit but I fear that micromanagement will have a less emphasis than the original which IMO totally wrecks any chances of it being a wonder in Korea again.

Blizzazrd said that their will be hero units, in the same way that the original StarCraft had hero units. They'd be special characters that would be used in the campaign, but wouldn't have any part in melee/skirmish modes.

I totally agree man! I just picked up the WC3 Battlechest a couple weeks ago, and honestly I'm kinda disappointed :? I didn't realize that Heroes and leveling-up were such a big part of gameplay. To me, it kinda kills the strategy aspect (or at least the strategy aspect that I'm looking for). For example, I played a match in WC3 where I had over 10 units and my opponent just brought one level 10 hero in and killed all my guys. Where's the strategy in that?

The strategy is toeither go for mass units and mediocre heroes or climb the tech tree while you level your hero. It takes awhile to get a hero to lvl 10....not sure how you only managed to pump out 10 units in that time. You should have been keeping a better eye on your opponent. And better yet, you should have been leveling your hero!

But I like what they did with WC3. It's a different style of play, for sure. And it isnt for everybody....but did really really expect them to just make WC3 = starcraft with elves and orcs instead of protoss and zerg? They took the series in a different direction, which is cool with me. I like them both. Warcraft for micro management (small groups of forces and heroes) and starcraft for macro management (huge armies and fightign all over the place)

What you mean "How do you dare say that?" We all have our own opinions and yes, I fear that this game may not be as fun as the original. I mean look, the wraiths, goliaths, and firebats are missing right off the start and those were some of my favorite units. Sure, they have been replaced by other units but I'd prefer have the option to still use them but have new units to offer as well. I know Blizzard has had a good track record but it doesn't mean they can't screw up and ruin the game for some people.

I can say that.

-The Dark Templar is from an ninja assassin alien looking dude into a generic grim reaper.
-The siege tank looks like a toy (Better than the cartoon tank but still)
-The nomad looks like a floating box with support. WOOO the Terran Dominion is getting especially getting fearsome now!
-The Reaper doesnt mesh in the Starcraft universe IMO, I mean I like the concept EXCEPT for...dual wielding pistols. Whatever this Blizzard can go with but I dont dig it.

Everything else is fine but yeah, GOD Blizzard hurry up and hire those new VA's. Starcraft had superb dialogue and the voice acting matched them perfectly, Raynor and Zeratul is at full spotlight here.

Blizzard has never steered me wrong, but I also don't tend to get over excited about games coming out. I'm quite confident I'll love SC2 when it comes out.

I am glad SCII won't have any heroes. WCIII is fun and all and I still play it online, but
it's totally different game from SC, because of heroes. 2 level 10 heroes can easily
destroy whole army of high-end units, with right micro and items on heroes and it
happened to me few times, but does not happen that often.

Anyway, SCII looks amazing, but from what I've seen it looks like SC with revamped
graphics and few new units. After trying COH and liking it, I don't know if better graphics
will cut it for SCII to be a hit.

I hope they will introduce some new and exciting elements to it, we've
never seen before. After all, it was blizzard who came up with concept of heroes
and aura and things of that nature. Give us something new.

From what I saw of the hero system in WC3 it definetly put a new spin on things.

Heck I saw it as more of a side-quest in multiplayer. It was fun to find yourself suddenly face to face with another level 9 hero and your both going for the last power up.

The only reason I liked StarCraft was for the mission editor, and for the Zergs.

Both are in SCII so I'm already buying it, and I'm already happy. Can't wait to make some crazy defend-against-the-swarm missions.

I get what your saying now but please leave Starcraft out of it. Starcraft will be a hit regardless because its one or is the most recognizable RTS in the world and hit the spot for one of the best games of all time from many gaming publications so Blizzard has the game's sale already in the bag, just like Bungie had Halo 2-3 in the bag.

Now as for your "add some spice into this game", well what kind of changes? Anything "dramatic" will probably scar the Starcraft name IMO. Starcraft, without a DOUBT is the MOST competitive game in the world (A whole nation is behind that, you cant say the same with Quake and Counterstrike). Second, why is there a need for a change? There has only been 2 other games with the name Starcraft (Broodwar included which is an expansion pack), and as far as I can see it ALL the RTS's that tried imitating Starcraft failed. There is no other Blizzard game that is remotely close to how Starcraft plays, so I dont see why Blizzard should change up the Starcraft formula.

BTW, really sorry for being aggressive but Starcraft is one of my favorite games. I cant help but defend it without showing my fanboyism :(

Nah, I'm not nervous. Starcraft is one of my least favorite RTS's, and SC2 looks to make some improvements that I'd much appreciate. As for the units, I like most of the new ones a lot (the Thor being particularly kick-ass), and there weren't any old ones left out that I'll really miss (for the Terran or Protoss, at least, we'll see about the Zerg).

Don't hear many people not liking the original. The only thing I'm even excited for is the campaign and all of the user made maps.

I like it, just not very much. It's for much more aggressive players than me, and it doesn't hold any appeal for my type of player. I like to play more defensively, and I don't like how constantly fast, fast, fast (and perfect) you have to be with everything, how you have to micromanage even each individual unit and their abilities nigh-on flawlessly, or you'll pay for it. Its gameplay quickly becomes a chore to me. I guess the people who like it are the type who like to test their meddle all the time, but I'm not into that, I play RTS's to just have fun with the skirmish and campaign modes.

As a player that has been round since the original Dune, Warcraft and Starcraft games, I just hope that Starcraft 2 is fun beyond anything and has an interesting storyline / good unit balance.

I don't really care about the hype as I never listen to that anyway, I just hope its a decent game (although blizzard being blizzard I think they will make it a decent game).
