I saw a poll on G4 and the hosts were saying that the results were probably off because of the wording of the question being confusing so I'm making the easier. After this it took this long and the new video came out are you guys excited for it or not?

Very excited,  I love the direction they took the game (from what we have seen of course) to be loyal to the original, which has a multiplayer community that still outnumbers the majority of the other RTS communities.

Planning on doing a ffa with my friends of Zerg Vs Protoss vs terran first thing I do..  I am of course being the Zerg hehe.

Its gonna be a good game, dont get me wrong, but its hard to be excited about a game you already know everything about.

Its gonna pick up where the first left off in terms of story
-The old staple units will come back, problably with a neat upgrade or two, and there will be a couple new special units
-The balance will be good
-Multiplayer will be popular
-Koreans will love it (not racist, just fact)
-And, most importantly, the gameplay will be unchanged

...but hey, what RTS has really done a lot with the genre in the last few years (my answer: nothing, homeworld was the last revolutionary pure RTS).

Not excited. I never really liked the original. That said, I've seen the screenshots and videos of Starcraft 2, and am personally very impressed with the polish Blizzard has already achieved so early. Alas, it's just not my kind of game.

I love RTS's but never really got excited by starcraft. But I think that i will have a change of heart. They are pretty much taking starcraft and redoing it with new graphics and improving off of everything that was good in it. They said they were taking suggestion from top players and what they would change. Sounds like they want a great game.

Not that excited.

I don't have that much time for one game to really stay competitive and moderately succesful online for long, so the, probably excellent, multiplayer doesn't really matter to me The single player campaigns of the original were quite good but by no means outstanding in my opinion and we haven't seen anything of the new storyline yet.

I also like the original Warhammer 40k Universe much more than Blizzards ripoff.

I see the qualities of Starcraft, but most of them won't be interesting for me...

Not excited at all.

Relic took the best RTS award from Blizzard with Dawn of War, then they etched the name Company of Heroes onto that award and beat the tar out of Blizzard with it. Relic holds the RTS Mastercrafter title as far as I'm concerned, alittle innovation/evolution in all of their titles. From Homeworld to CoH they've only gone forward and kept the fun. Blizzard though seems to be searching too much for the common denominator lately. So no, not really interested at all. It'll just be another Art Team heavy product with acceptable content like WoW and WarcraftIII.

VERY! i rarely play the first one, but after i saw the trailers i got really exited about the game, im now playing the first one a lot and it really owns.

I think its gonna be great, starcraft is an awesome game and i love the direction blizzard is heading for the 2nd one maybe a bit of change with the gameplay will do , but im really exited about this one.Especially because i wasnt on the first one golden days so i really want to go online  to play it i loved the gameplay of this game and i loved it on the gameplay videos of the 2nd one i think they are awesome in every way

I dont know why everyone is complaining about this game, if you want a different kind of gameplay go buy company of heroes, this is starcraft.

Honestly, if it came out a long time ago, i probably would be a lot more excited, but now, not so much.  Wish i knew why they waited so long, possible hype campaign, maybe a funding issue, or my favorite: waiting for a whole new audience to mature in the the joy of RTS.

.............. Wait what?  How was Warcraft 3 considered merely acceptable content? It won game of the year when it was released!  Most reviewers if not all gave it a AAA score..  Higher then Company of Heros and Warhammer infact.  I find this a rather rediculous statement to automatically disregard a company who the past 2 games they released for rts's were AAA..

Warcraft 3 was infact a hard game, it required heavy micro management more so then even Company of Heros at time (Yes I own every rts you mentioned.).  Not to mention heros and the enviroment they were in played a huge role and was quite innovative...  Not saying Relic is bad, but this logic your following seems alot like a fanboys approach..

Pretty much true. Warcraft III wasn't a bad game, but let's be honest; it wasn't particularly cutting edge. Blizzard doesn't seem interested in pushing a gameplay model that's essentially, at its core, unchanged from 1997. The very fact that they've decided to add another installment to Starcraft--popular still, maybe, but pretty dusty--rather than come up with something fresh tells me this is more of the same... a nostalgia piece, if you will.

My tastes have evolved from the mid-90s, people. I need more from my strategy games.

starcraft is quite possibly my favourite game of all time so yes, yes I am excited.

I have spent years playing RTS games hoping that the next one would be better than SC and was always disappointed that no RTS has ever been able to beat such an old game, though dawn of war was the closest so far. Not saying that the RTS games I have played were bad (mostly not true), they just never could keep bringing me back to play again and again.

So I am very excited but there is a good chance that I will not like it as much as the original

I feel like the wave of RTSs that came out of Blizzard and Westwood in the mid-to-late-90s was great, exciting stuff; heck, it defined the genre... literally. The early C&C games, along with Warcraft and Starcraft, sort of set in stone the basic template for real time strategy gaming (not to mention the elder grandpa of the genre, Westwood's own Dune II).

And for a very, very long time, we've seen developers do with the Westwood/Blizzard model what current MMORPG developers do with the Everquest model: essentially conform to it.

In the time since I spent dorm room hours slogging through awesome Starcraft battles, though, the industry gave us some new ways of looking at real time wargames. Homeworld was a real stab at a fresh perspective. The Total War series (yes, a hybrid sub-genre, I know) managed a take on real time fighting that owed nothing to Westwood or Blizzard. And those RTSs which haven't re-invented the wheel, like Relic's Dawn of War and Company of Heroes, while old fashioned at heart, really succeeded in adding lots of truly fresh features to an aged gameplay model.

Between those four franchises alone--Homeworld, Total War, Dawn of War and Company of Heroes--I feel like I've been at least guided in new directions. I love old skool stuff, but alas, my taste for old skool RTSs has diminished, and I want new gameplay models. Warcraft III, though rich, flashy, and dramatic, was decidedly old skool. And from the screenshots, my sense is that the new Starcraft is similarly nostalgic.

Have fun with it, dudes, but for me, I'll (probably) pass.
