If you have the DVD, you can just install it on their computer, and have them put the shortcut on Steam. My dvd games just have a shortcut on steam, they're not stuck on steam forever.
Thats B.S. If I have a hard copy of the game, why shouldn't I be allowed to do with it what I please? Certainly I can't be using it from two steam accounts at once, but why not have the ability to take it off one and put on another. Steam is a horrid abomination. fastr
Because then someone buys a game, finishes it, gives it to someone else, they finish it, they give it to someone else and the cycle continues and no one makes money.

whats your point? You OWN the game, you can do what you want, as long as your only using it on one computer at a time (its a one user license after all) Besides, if what you said was true, the game market would have died long ago, you CAN do that with any console game, yet they still seem to sell pretty damn well[QUOTE="Phoenix534"][QUOTE="fastr"]Thats B.S. I could be wrong though, the last boxed copy I bought was Starcraft 2.

Yes they do. Which makes this even dumber of a thread.

Almost all games are like that nowdays, he just wanted to play on the wrong platform and we should all be sad because he's sticking to consoles.[QUOTE="Phoenix534"][QUOTE="fastr"]Thats B.S. You get the right to play the game, you DO NOT OWN the game. Consoles will do it one day to. Why allow to enduser to share or make money off your work. Consoles have already started with online passes. In a companies eyes if you don't buy it new, your no different then a pirate to them.

Actually what your buying is a one user license. It doesn't matter who that user is as long as there is only one person using it. So if i'm no longer using it someone else should be able to.Share you steam account to your friend, problem solved.MonsieurX
Unless Valve finds out. Then that creates a whole new set of problems.

Nope that isn't right either, when you buy a game you purchase a license for you to use the software. If you check the terms and conditions of the license you will find that it is "non-transferable" that is you do not have the right to transfer your right to use the license to anyone else. Only the person that bought/activated the license can use it, if you give your game to some one else that is infringing the terms of the license since you never had the right to transfer the license in the first place.

Ok here, I'll do better for you:
"You OWN the game, you can do what you want" nope
" if what you said was true, the game market would have died long ago" nope
"you CAN do that with any console game" can yes, allowed? nope
" yet they still seem to sell pretty damn well" nope, they'd sell a lot more, check some data for US alone, used takes more than 1/3 of the sales.
And reported for those "other" ways you hint at, do you also hint "other" ways on the console forums or that's just when console players come to PC they just have the right to pirate?
I doubt they would sell alot more, most people buy used because many people dont have the money to buy full priced goods, its the economy, people just dont have alot of money to blow on non essentials as they did years ago.
Had anyone asked about what I implied I would have responded "A. Take computer to friends house B. Call valve and Ask to get the game removed and key reinstated ( long shot, but it HAS worked for some people) C. Go buy another copy or D. This dousnt let you play online but if you let your friend use your steam account in offline mode the game might still be playable albeit offline"
Its like McCarthyism in this forum so much your all so terrified of pirates so much, well If I talk about pirating so much, and do it so much then why does my steam account have over 1 grand of games on it hmmm? And why is most if not next to all of my games new hmm? Why do I have so many game boxes and cases that no matter where you look they are everywhere? Why do I take pride in being a happy supporter of capitalism? And why is none of my consoles hacked and all run on only the software apporved by the manufacturer? , since I have my own money and my own life I dont pirate games. You want something you work for it. And you made me pissy now. Good job
And my final enchilada is, You dont know steam offline mode so well.
No one has the right to pirate something, unless you live in Afghanistan then technically it would be payback I guess.
And Besides, how in gawds name do you get that Im telling them to pirate just becuase I said if you dont want to play online? Most games have online cracks now a days anyway so saying that if you dont want to play online is just null. Even TF2 has online cracks, it makes me rage so hard seeing people who pirate such an amazing game. I would suspect anyone who uses steam enough to know about offline mode, you cant usually play the game online at all, some games wont play though but with enough messing with steam settings or just spamming launch will get them to load, albeit without any online abliity. Im raging so hard now.
But yeah, steam binds games to your account, You can try calling steam, or doing the offline mode. But having 2 steam accounts online boots one guy off. I dont want this thread to be derailed into such a pointless misunderstanding.
If you want guy I could try and find a good priced copy of the game your looking to share?
