One of my favorite games in the genre, it's definitely worth it. There's some really great mods out there now as well, and the online is still going (careful of the cheaters, though). Honestly, I think TQ+IT is better than Diablo 2 in many regards. Though Diablo 2 is still king due to closed server support, awesome cinematic and better story, and atmosphere. Also, some of the main folks from Iron Lore (devs behind TQ) have formed a new studio called Crate Entertainment. They are making a new game using the TQ engine/tools so look out for that in the next year or so.

In my opinion yes, it is far better than TL. If you get it, make sure to get the fan patch (available at titanquest.net) and try out some of the mastery mods. Especially if you're a fan of ancient mythology, this game is great.

There is multiplayer...in fact there's tons of people still playing. There's a few things, though. First, since Iron Lore couldn't afford closed servers there are a lot of cheaters online (if this kind of thing bothers you). You can still find people to play with. Most legit players will have legit or something like that in the server name. Secondly, the online community is sort of split up. There's a fan patch that fixes a lot of small stuff and is really recommended, but if you install the fan patch it will only work with other people who have it installed as well. So you reduce the amount of people who you can play with. I don't know why, but a lot of people don't use the fan patch (maybe just don't know or something). I play online all the time though, so don't let that discourage you. Anyways, for $5 TQ is a tremendous value...the single player campaign is a good 25-30 hours long by itself...and that's only once through.

There's like 100X more content. Torchlight is a fun game too, but pales in compassion to Titan Quest. It's just out classed...but who can expect a $20 budget ware game to compete with a full fledged (at the time) game and an entire expansion? Titan Quest has: More classes More skills Deeper RPG gameplay Better and more expansive item system Better graphics Physics Online More enemies Better bosses More scenery Torchlight has: Randomized levels (which gets old and generic) Blood (I like this over TQ) Faster initial pace (Torchlight has a bit more "arcade" feel to it) Better music

Like I care about more content and multiplayer if killing enemies in a game where you spend 90% of the time killing enemies is boring.

Maybe it's just me, but seeing my enemies cartoonishly exploding, blood flying everywhere after I attack them with my electrified hand that creates gigantic shockwave like it's the hand of zeus himself is just more satisfying then having them fall over.

They have the same basic gameplay...except Torchlight has less content. The only real difference is that Torchlight starts off a bit faster, while Titan Quest builds up once you level up and get some of the later skills. Torchlight plateaus really quickly too...the lack of skills and repetitive content becomes apparent at around level 40 or so. Great game for what it is, but simply not deep enough for extended play.

I have both torchlight and titan quest. Imo Titan quest is a better diablo clone ( torchlight is quite good also ). Actually titan quest is the best diablo clone i played and even though i never managed to finish it i played well above 40 hours. Also for a top down 2006 rpg its graphics are quite good

Yes, it's quite a bit better than Torchlight but is kind of more gritty where Torchlight is more cartoony. There's an actual story to Titan Quest, but at it's heart it's still a grinding rpg.

I think I'v seen TQ go on sale 100 times in the past few months, game is on sale EVERYWHERE. It's a lot of fun, I recommend it, totally different than Torchlight though, Torchlight is meant to be hack N' Slash light, where as TQ has more depth.

Neat, though I already own it. And whether it's better than Torchlight depends on what a person looks for in a dungeon/loot-crawler. Torchlight has more visible customization and more obvious differences between classes (not to mention easy modding), and a far better loot and equipment system. Titan Quest has more variety. A lot more variety, if you include the expansion. The character classes, however, are not very interesting and all of them look identical. The game also doles out equipment drops at a very bizarre rate, so you can spend ages without a decent piece of equipment falling, and even then you'll probably put it on and your character will look like an idiot because most of the item models look silly. The story sucks for both games. I find Torchlight much more satisfying to play at a base level, as its gameplay is more visceral and drops are more rewarding. But Titan Quest has a lot of pretty locations you can run through and there is an addictive aspect to the loot drops in the form of runes.

Huh? Torchlight has exactly three classes, while TQ has 9. Torchlight's classes are just the 3 arch-types (melee, mage, archer) and in those classes there is very little differentiation...in fact nearly 1/3 of the skills in Torchlight are the exact same skill shared between the 3 classes. While in TQ, each class has tons of unique skills, no shared skills, and you can mix and match up to 2 classes. The possible builds and results for TQ's class system is tremendous and diverse. Titan Quest's loot system is far better than Torchlight. There's more item types, models, item classes, and the sheer amount of unique/set/legendary items in TQ makes Torchlight's items look like kids play. This is just uniques, sets, and legendaries (includes none of the monster uniques or regular items): http://www.gamebanshee.com/cgi-bin/search/banshee_search.pl?TitanQuest_Items.itemdivision=&TitanQuest_Items.category=&TitanQuest_Items.type=&TitanQuest_Items.slot=&TitanQuest_Items.game=&_orderby=&TitanQuest_Items.armor=&TitanQuest_Items.blockchance=&TitanQuest_Items.piercing=&TitanQuest_Items.speed=&TitanQuest_Items.reqlevel=&TitanQuest_Items.reqdex=&TitanQuest_Items.reqint=&TitanQuest_Items.reqstr=&noSearch=to+Accelerated+Growth&_layout=TitanQuest_Items&_cgifunction=search There's almost 1800 unique items in the game...and like I said doesn't even include the huge amount of base items and monster uniques (greens). I'd wager Titan Quest has more unique item models/types then any ARPG released...even Diablo 2. In addition to this, TQ also has a relic system which is like basic crafting. Torchlight actually is pretty bad in this department. First of all, the uniques/sets in Torchlight are actually reused...so unlike TQ (which has new items all the way up to 75), TL actually simply recycles the items over and over. You find the same unique gloves at level 5 as you do at 30...except at 30 they just prefix it with a "epic", increase the stats, and call it a day. Someone actually made a mod too, because in vanilla TL they don't scale past a certain level. Anyways, if you like Torchlight better that's all good and basic preference...but what you are describing doesn't exactly match up to reality of the games themselves.

Titan Quest does have more loot (it had better, it was originally a full game and not a budget release like Torchlight), but it doesn't drop well. Diablo 2 had that loot balance perfect, and Torchlight is very similar. The balance between good stuff and junk in Titan Quest is completely off, as I rarely found items worth using during my time with the game. And when you do find something neat, it doesn't have much of an appreciable difference when you start beating enemies with it. The rune system is pretty cool, though. As for the classes, maybe I'm the only one who doesn't find them particularly interesting. Yes, there are plenty of options for assigning skills, but few of them are spectacular, and many of them will result in a character that isn't particularly effective. And the basic act of attacking enemies just feels off somehow, which is what you'll be doing for most of the time while playing.

How far did you get? TQ does start off slower than TL but towards the end of normal it starts really picking up fast. By the time you are level 30 or so you should be able to decimate hordes of monsters with some really great skills (lots of good choices). The drops also start picking up as well...the further you get into the game the more chance you have to get items. Regarding frequency...I thought TQ was closer to DII than Torchlight is. Torchlight has a nice drop rate though...lots of instant gratification. But then it kind of shows you everything it has too soon and there's not much left at that point.

yes it does Titan Quest was pretty good im a huge Diablo 2 Fan and i played it to death an i have to say that Titan Quest is by far the best Diablo Clone that i have played yet. The only thing that really pissed me off was the cheating in Titan Quest. I say get the game if you like Hack n Slash type of RPGs

1280 x 800 was the greatest widescreen support I saw.

But looking at the last post....it appears I stand corrected.

Another quick question about Titan Quest, is it so difficult that the final boss takes too many attempts to beat? I had someone tell me that they could never finish the game because it got too difficult. And this guy is not a novice at RPGs or anything. So I am just wondering what those of you who finished the game thought about it.

Some people do have difficulty with the bosses...more specifically Typhon. If your character isn't up to snuff he can be a real pain. But the mechanics of TQ are deep and if you explore them, the solutions aren't difficult. Typhon, for example, has a range of attacks but the worst is probably his life steal. Not only does it cause a lot of damage, but it also heals him. The easiest solution is to of course add life steal resistance...this not only lessens the damage but also decreases the amount he heals. The problem is a lot of those people don't think to do that so they have a really rough time. He also has attacks that can 1-hit you and a thorn defense that reflects damage to you. If a player thoughtlessly attacks him they could die easily.

You may also have to respec (just costs gold) just for Typhon and/or equip yourself differently (weapons that cause slow). It depends on your class, really. But Typhon on normal difficulty is one of the more difficult fights in the game.
