Should I invest into purchasing and racking up a big game list in Steam?

Reason i ask is because, I was reading about complaints of steam being very harsh on their clients. Such as accounts being hacked and being closed by steam, and clients losing hundreds of dollars worth in games. I read this on Steams very on Contact Support youtube video, and looked at all the unhappy comments.

Should I stick to picking up my PC games from best buy ? Or should I rest assured that if anything happened to my account ( i recently had a virus so I am paranoid ) I can get my account back with all the games intact with ease?

Thank you All in Advanced

You are at no risk of being banned unless you are doing something very bad, such as hacking. Even then, the worst that USUALLY happens is getting a VAC ban, meaning you would banned from joining multiplayer only in select games. Again thats only if you are hacking. I've been on Steam since 2005 and have over 130 games on my account and have never heard of anyone getting banned for a BS reason. Keep in mind a lot of people out there post rumors and false stuff to scare people (most likely because they hate steam or digital distrubution as a whole).

If you ever get your account hacked, then simply send in a support ticket and they will get your account back in no time.

Keep a strong password and don't hack. Heck, i don't even make friends on steam unless I actually know them, who know they might even drag you to something. Oh and Steam will NEVER ask you for your password, so unless it is actual Steam login, never hand it out to anybody.

I've generally bought hard copies of games (with a few exceptions), but I'm going to start buying everything on Steam. Honestly it's more convenient and as far as I know there is very little chance of a security issue.

Steam revolves around PC Gaming - so if you are focused on that then you don't have much to worry about other than your account being hacked. Ive been a member of steam since 2004 and haven't had any issues.

Don't hack, don't abuse exploits, don't try to scam someone. Then you'll be fine.

Just a heads up, there will be a scammer claiming that there's free games or that they're steam support an admin or something alike it about once a month, just ignore them, it's BS.

I prefer hard copies of games and al ways will but Steam is not a bad alternative. Only time I use it though is when its for a game that is unavailable anywhere else and I feel I must play the game :P Only games that come to mind for that scenario are the Monkey Island games. For the most part if a game is digital only I just don't buy that game.

Exactly... People cheat on Counter Strike and get banned... Then go straight to the forums "OMG VALVE ARE NAZIS AND THEY BANNED ME FOR NO REASON AT ALL!!!!!!!"

As above a bit, Steam's sales sometimes border on lunacy, and is worth it for that alone. 8)

Generally don't hack, don't scam, don't exploit, don't have a weak password like 123456 and you'll be fine. Been using Steam for a while and I have nothing but praise for it.

There's no need to "rack" up a big game list on Steam unless you want to. I've been with Steam since they hit the ground running and I've never experienced any problems with my account ever. I have alot of games on Steam, but only buy them through their service if the boxed copy doesn't interest me. Steam also has the best sales on games anywhere. Hands down they blow Gamestop, Eb, Best Buy and Walmart out of the water with their sales on games. This past summer, they had a whole month of sales on games that was absolutely ridiculous. I purchased major releases for like $9.99 and older releases for anywhere from $1.99-4.99. Steam customer support is second to none, and with Cloud gaming, you can play your Steam games anywhere. They usually have anywhere from 1-10 games on sale each week for a fraction of the cost, and alot of them are games that were recently released or older games you may want to try again. In my own humble opinion, Steam is the best digital download service period........wow, don't I sound like the fanboy?
