Gamespot link Now someone needs to tell these EA people to stop smoking crack,

Firstly, there is a diffrence in what a product cost to make, and what its worth to consumers, don't confuse the two EA, kingdom of amular reckoning may retail for $60 in order to recoup your investment, its not worth $60 to a lot of gamers, ask the dev studio about sales at that price.

Secondly, if it wasn't for steam sales or sales some of these games would not sell enough to be relevant, make a list EA, of sales of any game at a high price and then what happened after the price drop, in fact without a sale there is very little if any money to show in return for all that effort.

Finally what about origin sales, what about giving away free ME2 codes for purchases of DAO 2 when it was getting harsh reviews at that time, did those actions cheapen bioware's IP's, or any other EA IP's for that matter.

They wouldn't be saying that if Origin was the one getting all the sales.

F*** intellectual property and f*** EA money hoarding scum, can't even take their hand out of the customers pocket for one second to let them enjoy a sale without QQing. Reading this kind of crap makes me want to go and download about 100 gigs worth of EA "intellectual property", although to be hoenst I can't even be assed because they don't even make good games hahaha.

New Keynesian economics for the lose, EA. Either adapt to the times or GTFO! That goes for almost all of corporate America today, look at the unemployment rate in these "1st word countries" to see how hard they fail at economics.

This is very very basic economics... What would you rather do? Sell 1000 games for 60$ or or 10000 for 15$?

It's a bit more complicated than that, but that's the gist of it. With digital downloading the cost to distribute the games is a mere fraction of what it used to cost to package and retail them. Based on an almost infinite supply, you should develop the cost of a product almost entirely around the demand for that item. That's exactly what Steam summer sales does they take votes and analyze people's wish lists to determine what should be be cheaper to encourage more sales. It's definitely one of the most basic concepts of economics, supply and demand, but since the advent of digital distribution, many publishers are slow to adapt.

OLD EA presedent said that steam is expensive, he takes all games from ea and puts them on origin. Dont have to pay valve to host their games and he prices them 60 bucks. NICE, now they say they wont do steam deals becasue they chepaen the ips. The balls on those ea trolls are surelly huge. Everytime i hear something from ea i get pissed and i feel if they said that with a grin in their face. Like in e3 "dlc is good" and "we want to be indie" ea talking about dlc and making that "indie bundle" in steam.

if you pirate system shock 2 a game that they cannot sell, support or make sequels, they will hunt you down because its their :intelectual property" EA is the worst, they put online passes in singleplayer console games. This is what it has come to? So about that low allowing you to sell games downloaded from DD, what you gonna do about that ea?

Old news. The guy said this, then literally 2 days later Origin had a sale where Dragon Age was reduced by about 80%.

i think they have a point. steam sales have caused me to buy and play many games, also mediocre games that i would never have come near otherwise. since time to play them all is limited i have not bought many games this year and i only buy games now that i'm sure are good but also that i can buy at a discounted price. last time i bought a game at full price must be years ago, even though i have the budget to pay more and even consider some games worth more as what i paid for them. but i have so many games to play that i can wait for sales and discounts without problem which i know will come either in summer or around christmas.

because other game retailers need to follow this trend to stay in business, i suspect the whole games publishing industry is on a collision course with a bursting bubble. peoples won't keep on filling up their games libraries with games they will not play, no matter how cheap you offer them at.

EA are under the stockholders thumb and stockholders only want money so makes sense that EA are upset because it means the stockholders are at EAs throats, quite funny if you ask me.

They're just jealous cause Steam Summer sales generate Valve a huge amount of revenue compared to selling everything at top price. It's pretty much basic economy that if you lower prices then sales increase and if sales get to a certain amount then you're earning more and more money. Think if it as in a graph that keeps on rising depending on how many buy the products, the more people buying the products the more those small dollars start reaching up in heights.

Valve responds, tells EA to STFU. "Steam is currently in the middle of its annual Summer Sale and many games will be receiving discounts of 75% off or more. In a recent interview, David DeMartini of EA claimed that these sales "cheapen intellectual property." After stating that the Origin service won't be introducing sales of this magnitude, DeMartini said "The game makers work incredibly hard to make this intellectual property, and we're not trying to be Target. We're trying to be Nordstrom." Head of Business Development at Valve Jason Holtman recently had a chance to respond to these claims in an interview with Eurogamer. Holtman pointed out that "We do it with our own games. If we thought having a 75 per cent sale on Portal 2 would cheapen Portal 2, we wouldn't do it." In addition to the tremendous boost in sales that is seen for many games during the sale, Holtman also pointed out that pre-order sales and sales during the first three weeks of release are also up."
