The only con that concerns me is the possibility of the platform (STEAM, not PCs) dying and thus I lose access to a crap-ton of my games.

The ability to have all your games in one place and download them at anytime is a huge convenience for me.

Last year my computer crashed and I lost everything; the next day I got a new Laptop, downloaded Steam and had all my games back (50+ games ) in 24 hours.

Have been using it since CS:S and I haven't found anything wrong with it at all. Downloading uses my connection to the fullest 1.9MB/s... It gets all the latest games usually cheaper than retail, has sales very often were you can get games for dirt cheap. Every game I have bought except for Borderlands has been off steam for the past 3 years.

The only problems I have with Steam are the often slow download speeds and terrible prices for games outside of a sale. Also for a service where with a ban the player can loose thousands of dollars the reasons for a ban are not described too well, which is odd because the rest of the FAQ portion is quite detailed.

pros: Great store with sales. cons: mediocre community feature that seems like it gets in the way more than it is useful always have to have it open to play a game the in-game functions don't support a lot of non-steam games for me.

Pros: - no need to keep discs in your optical drive - a central place for your games - keeps your games up to date (no need to search around on the web to try to figure out what the latest patch is) - platform for indie / non-mainsteam titles that I wouldn't never have heard of otherwise - Steam Cloud is amazingly useful if you play on multiple machines, like a desktop + laptop (no need to manually copy over save files) - achievements, friends list, chat - Steam sales (Wow it's 75% off!) Cons: - occasional Steam client freezes - can be slow to connect to the Steam servers at startup - god forbid some heavyweight decides to buy out Steam - when there's a Steam service outage, you definitely feel it - Steam sales (Taking all your money by selling you all the must have games that you didn't even know you had to have until you saw it on sale for 75% off!) - no more game manuals to browse while taking a dump (ok ok, I could print out the pdfs if I really wanted, but it's not the same) - tying up a lot of bandwidth to download gigs of data

  • Steam cannot record video.
  • You can't stream video either.
  • Doesn't support non-steam games properly

Those are the only thing's a hate about Steam. Xfire FTW!!!!!!
