Mainly because Ubisoft flat-out lied about the DRM within the game before its release. Not to mention its a horribly shoddy port to PC thats loaded with issues. Why are people wanting refunds for From Dust?
The_Gaming_Baby
The DRM is being patched out so what is the big deal. Crappy ports come out all the time. That doesn't mean you should be refunded. This should teach people not to pre-order every little thing that tickles their fancy.

Say what you will, but I'm cashing in on this opportunity to get my money back on this abysmal port. You might be masocistic and like getting it up the bum from A-hole developers but I sure as heck don't! I could care less about the DRM. I can confirm OP as I was initially rejected for a refund but got an email saying they are reconsidering a refund at ubisofts request.
Steam isn't offering refunds, Ubisoft is THROUGH Steam. There's a big difference.MythPro1Not really. The point is that Steam is giving your money back....
You couldn't be more wrong. If the mouse control doesn't even work properly, you absolutely should be entitled to a refund. The DRM is being patched out so what is the big deal. Yeah, I felt the exact same way when I bought Dead Space on the PC. I loved that game on the 360, and it came up for 5 bucks on a Steam sale, and then I find out they just directly ported the analog-stick acceleration settings to the mouse and made it nearly unplayable. I was exceedingly pissed. The DRM is being patched out so what is the big deal. Crappy ports come out all the time. That doesn't mean you should be refunded. [QUOTE="Mystic-G"][QUOTE="Swiftstrike5"]Dang, I didn't get refunded for blatant false advertising on steam. Bought Medal of Honor for $5 when it promised an invite to the BF3 beta. I have the pictures and everything. I considered contacting the BBB, but I didn't want to risk valve annihilating my account over a $5 dispute, so I just stopped buying games from steam instead. Swiftstrike5You are aware the BF3 beta has not started right? Well, aware. They already said they are only giving out beta invites (the 48 hour ones) to users who pre-ordered or purchased the limited edition. Steam sold me the standard edition promising a beta invite that they can't deliver on (multiple people tried contacting steam support). I coulda told you that part.It was well-known to be limited edition only before it released.

You're missing the point. If Ubisoft never gave the go ahead to offer refunds, you would never get your money back. Plain and simple. Steam isn't doing this as a friendly gesture. They're obliging a customer's (Ubisoft's) request.
Yeah valve punish those ubi-bastards for lying.

Except Ubisoft gave Steam the go ahead to honor such refund requests.

Trollin is fun :P Anyway Ubisoft better allow refunds, being a shoddyish console port and annoying DRM lied about who the hell wouldn't want a refund? I wonder how many refunds there would be if all Ubi games had the refund option :P

Almost all, because the "troll faced" kids would play the games and just get their money back to spend on other games and this is not about Ubisoft, it's about any company, the world is full of ignorants that buy games thinking that they have some kind of right to resell the game after.I agree.... I wasn't trolling though... ???I noticed they added this notification on the GamersGate panel on my From Dust.
"Please find the following detailed explanation of the type of DRM used.
'From Dust' requires an internet connection when you start the game.
Make sure you are connected to the internet when you attempt to start the game.
After you have signed in and the game is running, you no longer need the internet connection for that session and can disconnect and play offline is you wish."
This eez outrage! I wuz not aware of this DRM until now! I want mah moneh back for this fun game that I spent 12 hours playing.

No, it's more like agreeing to sex with someone without asking what they had in mind first. As an informed consumer you'd have waited for reviews and community feedback, then made a purchasing decision, not jumping the gun then blaming the company because you made a ****ty purchase. Whether they made a quality game or not doesn't matter if your purchase was uninformed. That's completely on you.

exactly
any other business would never get away with anything like this; it seems only video game companies can pull stunts like this, and get away with it (present topic excluded...but honestly, I cant remember a time when DD products got offered a refund).
If product A is said to have features X, Y, and Z, and it does not have feature X, the customer is completely in their right to return their product.
-If I am in a restaurant and my chicken was lacking any sort of seasoning, I could walk out if I wanted to without paying
-If the car I bought was supposed to have a passenger airbags and it did not, I could return it for a full refund.
-If the game I ordered was supposed to support PC controls and be DRM free, I...I have to live with it?
This is good news, ultimately, as it sets a precedent for PC games sold via digital distribution. I applaud Ubisoft for trying to right their wrongs.
Wish this would've been posted last week when I bought my copy from Direct 2 Drive. No refund for me :(
The problem is ubisoft mislead everyone into thinking the game wouldn't have this kind of DRM. They knew people wouldn't have preordered/brought the game had they included that information. Did you even read the first sentence of my post. Here let me emphasize it. THE DRM IS BEING PATCHED OUT. You are getting the game you pre-ordered with the kind of DRM you prefer. I'm really being bombarded by a lot of you Ubi haters, of which there are many. I don't like their always-on DRM either and I don't buy games that utilize it. They had a long string of titles that used this kind of DRM. With OR without their promises, knowing Ubi's reputation, a smart person would not buy this game before release or any game for that matter. You never know what kind of huge problems a game will have, especially on the PC platform. By the way, I've played this game on a PC with a 360 controller and have noticed no issues. I'm sorry the use of a mouse isn't entirely supported, but still, you should have waited. Just be honest, you bought into the hype and jumped the gun, plain and simple. Learn your lesson and move on.The DRM is being patched out so what is the big deal. Crappy ports come out all the time. That doesn't mean you should be refunded. So then companies can flat out lie to customers (regardless if they are patching out, point is they said it wouldn't be there and it was) and cut corners during development/porting and this is ok? I'm sorry but colored me confused on this one. I guess it is asking too much for a game to work properly and for the development team to stick to their word from the get go and not be forced into it after their game launches because the community is rather upset over the rush job that is From Dust on PC. This might just be me but when I think PC I think keyboard and mouse, not having decent mouse support is completely unacceptable and not everyone has a controller laying around they can use. Like another poster said, this is the sort of attitude that lets companies think they can walk all over gamers, go back on their word, and in general try to leave us with the short end of the stick. If they were simply patching out the DRM and there was nothing else wrong that would be fine, but having a shoddy port and terrible mouse support is unacceptable. Sitting there acting like this is the gamers' fault is laughable at best. What were they thinking expecting a quality product from a professional game development studio? The DRM is being patched out so what is the big deal. Crappy ports come out all the time. So howdo I get my money back? pre-ordered it but haven't instaled it yet because, well, I heard the port is horrible

Well, depends on what you're looking for, pretty much everyone says controlls are bad, some like you, some say it's unplayable. We also have as far as I heard no graphics choice (perfect sign for a horrible port) and we get screwed with the DRM (I don't care if it has, I don't care if it gets removed but I do care if they say it won't be in but then it isn't, I hate it if a company lies to me)

- Mouse control could be better opitmized but far from unplayable. - No graphic options doesn't mean horrible port. You can still choose the resolution and that's about it, but even if the fps is capped, the game runs fine, smoothly and with no crashes. - DRM and the LIE is another issue of course, I'm just reviewing the actual game.[QUOTE="ArchoNils2"][QUOTE="FelipeInside"] Apart from the mouse control which is a bit uncomfortable at times.... the game works fine.
