I've been doing the following for the past several months to get my machine to boot. I turn it on in the morning and enter the BIOS settings. I leave the machine on the BIOS settings while I make some coffee (~2-3 minutes) then I exit out of the BIOS and let the machine boot up the rest of the way. If I don't do this, the machine will usually crash mid boot or reboot on its own. But as long as I let it ``warm-up'' on the BIOS for a few minutes every morning, it runs all day just fine with no stability issues whatsoever.

What could be causing this? It sounds like a power issue but the fact that it runs stable once it gets going maybe says otherwise. Other than the power supply, the only other suspect I have is the house itself. It's old, built in the 40's. None of the outlets are grounded so I have the computer plugged into a surge protector that is plugged into the wall via some $2 2-prong to 3-prong adapter. Any ideas? Here are my specs:

E6600 core2duo running at stock speeds (2.4ghz)

8800gt (evga superclocked ed) running at stock speed (soon to be dual SLI hence the sudden concern about power)

2gb corsair ddr2 800

msi p6n 650i mb

rosewill RP550V2 550w power supply (with 2 4-4pin +12v rails with 18a each for, what the ps claims, as a combined 35a on the +12v line to mb).

Thanks in advice for the input.

That's a strange problem. Have you tried flashing the BIOS to a newer version?

No, I haven't. Once I get home I'll see if there's a newer bios available.
