Hey all,

I need a new PC. & i'm a wee bit rubbish with the technical side of building em, so i'm asking for any suggestions etc. that could help me, or anyone else who may be in the same boat. I've got a rough idea of what i want, but want to hear the ideas of more experienced PCgamers before I commit.

The budget is ~$3000

any help is appreciated.

Cheers :)

You don't need to spend that much.. But if you really want to you can do an Intel i7. GTX 295 which is top of the line right now, or wait for the 4890x2 which will be top of the line.. You will need an x58 motherboard and 6gb of DDR3 RAM. Probably going to want a Corsair 850TX power supply. Antec Twelve hundred or HAF 932 case is what I would recommend.. The hard drive and DVD/Blu Ray drive is really up to you..

Check this out this pre built rig has everything I was talking about and is $2999.99.. You can save around $8-900 if you buld your self and don't include the stuff you don't need like 12 GB of RAM (6 is enough). And Vista Home Premium instead of Ultimate.. 1 TB hard drive (overkill anyway) versus two TB

This pre built= 3000

vs

Custom built= ~2500

And they have pretty much the exact same parts

Ok, after hearing what advice i've been given, i'm looking at something like this :

(please, let me me know if there's any glaring incompatability here)

CD/DVD 2x Pioneer DVR-216BK 20x Dual/Single Unbranded Black OEM - SATA include NERO 8 OEM Suite
SOUND 1x Creative SBXFI-TITAN-FPS Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium PCIe Fatal1ty Pro Series

GFX 1x Inno3D IV-GTX295-1792 GF GTX 295 PCI-E 2.0 1792MB DDR3 896-bit, 576/2000MHz. Dual Dual-Link DVI, HDCP, Fan, NVIDIA PhysX Ready
SCREEN 1x Asus VW246H 24" LCD 1920x 1080, Full HD, 2ms, 20000:1, Speakers, DVI, HDMI1.3, D-sub
PSU 1x Antec SG-850 850W Signature Series ATX Power Supply, 80 PLUS certified, 80mm low noise fan, Dual 12V outputs, 2x PCI-Express, 4x SATA, 6x IDE
MOBO 1x Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P LGA1366, X58, 6DDR3, FSB2000, RAID, GBLAN, PCIE2.0, 3FW, UD3, ATX

CPU1x Intel i7 920 CORE i7 920 2.66GHz 4.8GT QPI 8MB CACHE LGA1366

Now I just need to find a place to get it done cheap.

Cheers

What are you going to be using this for? If its for photoshop and the like, you can get the nVidia Quadro FX. If you are going to be gaming I can put together a killer machine with $3000, although $1500 should suffice.
