Why on earth did Gamespot give this game a 9.5? What's going on? Why did Gamespot do this?

can I ask how old you are?
I only ask because Super Meat Boy is a game that harks back to the golden era of early platformers, with insane difficulty, 8bit graphics and brilliant concept and game play. Don't hate on a game just because it's not appealing to you, there's a lot of people who love it, because we grew up playing games like it.
Has Gamespot become bizzaro world or something? Why are people defending this game? This must be some kind of joke.

No, we're just real gamers that can appreciate good game design and art style choices. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean the world doesn't like it.
i feel this way sometimes when im playing it... but that is only because it is incredibly difficult and i don't like failing. :D
it's an awesome game.
How is the gameplay trial and error? If you die in Super Meat Boy, its the fact that you messed up. The game gives you sharp control and presents the levels to you very clearly. Its a hard game, but just because its difficult doesn't mean its all trial and errorI found the trial and error gameplay to be cheap and overly frustrating. This is not good game design.

theg ame give u slippery controls
This discussion is going nowhere. People on Gamespot are continuously discussing topics such as how Crysis 2's textures are not as good as the original Crysis textures. Now I think such discussion is ridiculous, but it still shows how nitpicky many gamers are about graphics these days. Meanwhile, a game like Super Meat Boy (which looks like it was made in the 1980s) suddenly gets all this praise from people on Gamespot. Something doesn't make sense here. When I actually saw a video of Super Meat Boy, I thought for sure that it must be some kind of joke (i.e. it's so bad that it's good). But apparently many people here actually like this game. It doesn't make any sense, but whatever.
Personally I thought SMB was/is brilliant. Tight controls, rock hard and has a very nostalgic feel to it. Lots of games back in the 8-bit days had this level of insane difficulty, which is why I appreciate them so much.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion as far as i'm concerned, if you didn't like it, fair enough (I can't stand Halo for example) just don't bleet on about it.
It shud be called how fast can u go to sleep.
COD4 and teh CSS of true warriors are just leagues bettar, or if you want to play teh 2d, go get a Sega Genesis, the console of a true warrior.
That game is all like, "Hai gaise, I think I am old school, so I will play SMB even though it secretly sux"

It deserves it. umad? ujelly?
once again giving us pc gamers a bad name with the graphics argument.
Baurus_1
Graphics argument? Seriously? SMB looks like it was made in the 1980s! SMB is just way beyond bad graphics!
Man, i loved the eighties, have some fond gaming memories from that time....Super meat boy is retro, and it's fun. Also you should try Gemini Rue. You'll love it!

Did you play games in the 80s or you're just trolling? not even games in the 90s looked as good. The game is disgusting.
To answer the TC's question - That's why some people are defending this absolute crap of a game.

Really? Your going to try to defend SMB's graphics? LOL!! What a joke!! LOL!!
I don't know, your comments are all pretty much a joke. But you might be 12 years old or something.. then it would make sense..[QUOTE="robertlie"][QUOTE="Baurus_1"]

Really? Then stop playing modern games and go buy a used Atari 2600 and play games on that instead. Then you'll see how much you really like those games. SMB is a travesty! At least its better than the crap graphics on the games YOU play. LOL!
You should play VVVVV ;), you'll "love" it, in a troll kind of way.Well I guess the new fad on Gamespot is to pretend that games with 1980s graphics are really cool. Just another stupid fad that will soon pass.

U mad? I think you mad. Anyway the topic should be locked due to the OP being a obvious troll. Wrong facts, thinks graphics = art style and he repeat the some thing over and over again.Well I guess the new fad on Gamespot is to pretend that games with 1980s graphics are really cool. Would be awesome if they made another Lemmings :( those games were awesome (except 3D).I still like the theatrical versions of Star Wars, and those where made in the eighties, one of them even older........Am i going to far?
Also sometimes i still play Lemmings (flame shield on)

My thoughts exactly! In these fine indie days it shouldn't be too difficult to find a decent developer for the job :)
I wonder if Psygnosis still owns the rights for Lemmings.
