I asked about this in another thread, but this XSOS 3.0 would be great also because there's a rumor going around some tech circles that MS is working on a way to make Vista "pay to play." They are looking into charging a yearly fee to "re-activate" Vista ( haven't heard how much they are thinking of charging ). Apparently, in the EULA for Vista it says you don't "own" it when you buy it rather you are basically "renting" it. If that becomes a reality, oh boy, this XSOS thing if it comes out and runs well would really catch on fire.1Lonehawk
Thats what happens when a company becomes a monopoly. Customers dont have a choice but to pay.
if this will come.. i'll give 1 dollar to every single human on the earth!Shegevara
You have 6 billion dollars?

Monoplys can't exist without the government, without the government monopolys are impossible....Apparently, in the EULA for Vista it says you don't "own" it when you buy it rather you are basically "renting" it...1Lonehawk
Yeah there is just no way M$ is helping them create a free OS with DX10 integration. That would be the dumbest business move of all time.OMGTEHGRUKWTFyeah this really smells like bs
If you use your windows'd computer only to play games... you could say you 'almost' have a game console... be real, you don't need windows for anything else than games. ABSOLUTELY ALL of the 'other' stuff, you can do it with other systems.prince_of_doomThis is true. But I don't find LInux/other does this any better than Windows. Its more of a novelty of getting away from MS. Or just doing somthing different, which isn't a bad thing.
Interesting project i have to keep my eyes open.
The sucess of this project depents on how mutch will MS help them if they have given them too early to tell either way
oh and in some post it was claimend that MS had given them premission to use some of their code so they will not probally have any Copywrite problems
this is stupid its not going to go anywhere not to flame anyone or anything its just what i think cause u see stuff like this try to start up all the time and it goes no where

Okay but what about the fact that they ARE GETTING HELP from MS to actually build this? They also have some kiond of contract that lets them do this or something or other...FragMonkey09I would not so sure that MS is holding their hand in this endeavor, for the reasons that I mentioned.
Wow I'm loving this thread (seriously), the amount of intellectual conversation and/or debate in this topic is great, a nice change for once from the rampant "fan-boyism" on these forums. ElectricNZWell, then avoid the console forums like the plague.
The Linux and Mac OS X os's are perfectly capable systems for the programming of games. The problem is one of install base. If nobody adopts the system then no one will program games for it, thereby keeping the install base low, thereby keeping people from programming games for it :)
Too bad Loki games was mismanaged and the owners embezzled all that money. It could have been the company that made Linux a popular game platform....
Dear God I hope this is true...I have no beef with Microsoft, but damn it would be nice to have a practical choice of OS (sorry, Linux isnt very practical...and Macs, well....theyre Macs) instead of just doing Windows!
And its free!
This is really getting silly. If this project was logit there would be some major fanfare involved. To get a DRM free DX10 Vista ONE HUNDRED PERCENT COMPATIBLE Free OS would be a huge HUGE......did I say huge? DEAL. So the fact that this is not being shouted from every PC news website makes me just giggle inside. Its very similiar to when you get the email saying you won the British lotery. Just fill out this form and gives all you personal info and your big paycheck will arrive by mail soon....honest.
What a pipe dream.
Holy crap, i almost crapped myself......yea, this looks like something that will be better then M$ vista **** DX10 supporting, FREEÂ OS without the vista
XOS 2.0 was Windows 2000 with some hexed files and disabled services. Why would this be any different?platinumxofhell
It's the invisable microsoft hand that changes the public attention so they can further monopolize.
I laugh at vista. Build 2000% bigger then it should have been. For what reason? Intel, western digital, ect ect.
Vista is cracked and always will be. The beta was cracked even before it was publically released. I'll never pay for software from a company that steals to profit.Â
this does not pass the smell test.or else it doesn't violate the patents but doesn't actually work and has no compatibility with games/DX10 whatsoever. if anyone here is so excited about this OS, i advise them to back up their files before installing it.
would MS release the rights for dx10 for free? What about all the others windows components that will be needed to be licensed to run windows games? basically, this would mean that MS just sold off their monopoly to an unknown internet poster. how come this is not reported in the business journals. How come the stock price of MS is relatively the same. The poster is being vague and evasive. This project would be massive, yet this one forum thread with vauge facts is their only PR effort. He won't name any co developers, even as he states there are some who have chosen not to be anonymous. Won't indicate any sort of completion estimate.
Logic dictates that this product will never exist, or if it does exist, it violates MS patents.
