Guys I played SWToR through the initial 30 day period and while it was fun at times, I quickly became bored with the game. It just feels too much like I have "been there and done that" and at this point I can not justify paying $15 a month for such a game. What are your opinions? ShoTTyMcNaDeSThere are countless threads on this already. Yes, I've been there done that before too, and it's very similar to WoW but a game doesn't have to reinvent everything to be fun. I personally care more about the characters in this MMO compared to others for the simple fact of the voice acting. What really keeps me going on this game is the main storyline though, I think it's fantastic (Sith Inqusitor). At the end of the day though, u still have to realize it's an MMO. So there will be fetch quests, daily missions etc.
I haven't played ToR but a general rule with paid MMORPGs is if you are bored and can't find a way to have fun with the game then why continue paying it?
In the end, it is you who decide if the $15 per month is enough for keep you entertained or you feel that it is a waste in a game that is boring you to death. Also remember that MMORPGs are evolving and new content is added, ToR isn't an exception.
Very true, but I play solo most of the time and the story keeps me entertained too.if you arent playing with friends or going and makignf riends with guilds and groups, then i can understand why you'd be bored.

Yeah it's another casualized click fest mmo with boring combat. It just sucks that they had to do this to a star wars game.
[QUOTE="wis3boi"]Very true, but I play solo most of the time and the story keeps me entertained too. I don't find this game anything like WoW.
Swtor is more like a single player RPG. You do most stuff with companions and create a story for your character. You really only play with other people for the flashpoints or heroics.
I think the combat in it is pretty lame. The story and graphics (on low by the way) are excellent.
I am bored of both WoW and SWTOR already. I think Star Wars fans who have never played an MMO will enjoy this game though. Don't compare it to WoW.
I wouldn't say having fun solo is necessarily a bad thing; however, I've never played an MMO right at launch. I would level with friends, but sometimes schedules just conflicted and I wanted to get my player to max level. So more often than not, I would solo to max level, then do dungeons and raids with friends (IRL and/or online).
As long as an MMO at least has the endgame focused on the multiplayer, then that's fine IMO.

I agree. I would still play it from time to time but not for 15 bucks a month.
the games fun, and it might be similair but name anouther mmo that offers this much, not a single one, and i enjoy it alot

What does SWTOR offer that WoW does not?

I mostly noticed that I care more about the characters and the story than in WoW. Something as simple as voice acting not only brings the characters more to life, but I actually remember characters more than I did in WoW or other MMOs. Then you have some things the same and other things differently from WoW. I love the group decisions/conversations, which in some cases even decided how the mission continues.[QUOTE="kyle_360"]

A single player game built within an MMO. No really, a true SPRPG like KOTOR but with friends. You can still group as much as you like, you can even bring people along on your personal class quest if you want. I don't mind solo options in an MMO, it certainly does NOT force you to solo. Whoever says that did not try it.[QUOTE="Johnny_Rock"][QUOTE="kyle_360"]

Also another bonus to SWTOR: you arent stuck fighting one or two enemies. I just did a class quest to hold a frontline against an assault and was attacked by about 15 enemies at once. Good luck with that in most other MMOs. Not to mention instance mobs arent all basically minibosses, you can solo the "trash mobs", it's the bosses that are the real challenge

a non-fantasy setting, storylines with choices, character development, companions, moddable gearA. Setting doesn't matter. If you like fantasy over sci-fi, you're not playing Star Wars
B. Agreed.
C. What does this mean? I can develop my character just as well in any other MMO. Or are you talking about story? I don't play MMO's for character driven story. I like to create my own back story for my toon. This is the single greatest reason I think SWTOR would make a better single player game.
D. The greatest reason NOT to group in an MMO....
E. You can mod gear in WoW now.

I like to create my own back story for my toon. This is the single greatest reason I think SWTOR would make a better single player game. Even thought this is the premise for an MMO, most of them still take you down a linear path (even WoW). The good thing about SWTOR is that you get choices. You can be evil or good and this influences how your character and conversations develops, as well as the missions. (and I hate the word toon, lol...)
D. The greatest reason NOT to group in an MMO.... Companions are very useful, both in combat and for crafting, but you can't finish all the missions just with them. You will need a group sooner or later.

by character development i meant that my character has a voice and emotion and a moral stance on things and it changes over time. I am no longer a walking spreadsheet of stats and nothing more.MMOs probably just aren't for you. I've had the same problem with pretty much every mmo I've played but by far I've been enjoying SWTOR the most. Still get bored at times, but I get bored of all my games after playing for a little while.
??? Do you mean that you have to be a "specific" type of player to enjoy MMOs?Of course it's boring, it's an MMORPG. It only appeals to a very certain type of player.

[QUOTE="KleptoZ"]??? Do you mean that you have to be a "specific" type of player to enjoy MMOs? I think he meant just that. It does appeal to a certain type of gamer. But ever since EQ and WOW, it has appealed to many lol. Also, you can turn around and say that there are millions and millions of players that would rather play SP games and/or other types of online games. The number of console gamers as well as PC gamers that play non-MMO games out there prove this.Of course it's boring, it's an MMORPG. It only appeals to a very certain type of player.

[QUOTE="flipin_jackass"]I wished it had a demo. :(wis3boiOpen beta happened before it went live, they gave keys in the millions. Soon enough it will have a trial period. Every MMO has them. They first have to fix the bugs etc.
that and companions are in n o way a replacement for another player. Just try doing an Operation (raid) using companion NPCswis3boiMindblowing @_@ to even consider for a moment the possibility of raiding "solo" in a MMO, I would expect nothing less from a raid, to force you to play with a group of human players.
Why would anyone ever bring raids into such a discussion...something's definitely not right with the "solo" aspect of it.

I'm not bating anyone, but I can't help to notice that besides enjoying the story and voices, people seem to defend what everyone is saying allover the internet with mindblowingly dumb arguments.I'm interested in getting the game, but I'm extremely cautious since it bombed hard and the first month barely passed and don't try to deny that pure and simple fact.

Not denying anything but why do u think it bombed hard? They had to put a limit on pre-orders cause there were so many and the first month had 2 million people playing (even from countries which it hadn't released yet).
I don't call 2mil in first month a bomb.
The texture pack was written by some guy on the internet. Even HE said he didn't know if it was true or not so we don't know the full story. As for GW2, hopefully it turns out how they are promising.after reading about GW2 not having the usual tank n healer bs I am interested to see how that game turns out cuz the same old gets boring and it is nice to see a company want to take this kind of gaming into a new direction
as for SWTOR hard to want to play it when they lie to their customers and remove texture packs that were supposed to be in the final game

The number of subscribers and players is constantly dropping ever since it got released and people aren't subscribing, the overall subscriptions are still falling, it wasn't a huge number at max, but it still didn't drop enough to reach the constant subscription base and it's already pretty low and there are a lot of unacceptable mistakes, mistakes that some get fixed and new ones just as bad appear out of nowhere, paired with questionable design decisions.
Regarding MMOs, it's always the negativity that is constantly present online, but the negatives of SWTOR are repeated so much by every hater or underwhelmed buyer that it can't all be false or written from anger and frustration.
They didn't release it everywhere, but it doesn't matter, it certainly didn't release everywhere in Europe and from what I've seen in the past 1.5 weeks, it's the most active in Europe ( which isn't saying much), it not being officially released everywhere is hardly a consolation for the low numbers, most that wanted it couldn't wait, they already bought the game, as for the players, the servers are empty (from their assessment of light) all week except Saturday and Sunday. A huge MMO that had a lot invested in it, having almost the same amount of serves with a few players as WoW has medium load servers and the same number of standard servers that WOW has on heavy load (which is the top for WoW unlike SWTOR that is till very high). Sure WoW has a legacy behind it and around 10 mill constant subscribers atm (not necessarily players), but a just released highly marketed, high investment MMO to not have more than a "heavy" server constantly after the first month (EU), and several during the two days of the weekend (some in US and more in the EU, this time a few with very heavy load too).
It's not doing great at all, it's falling hard and that's the undeniable fact, what's unknown for now is how low will it fall and that will be pretty accurate assessment next month.

Why can't an MMO have an entertaining story and also accessible to be played solo? Didn't ya hear? MMOs have to have text boxes and random useless grind quests like "collect 30 lizard scales because I said so" and they need to revolve around TEH STATZ  We don't want character devlopment or story in our stinkin' rpgs, amiright?
Because the idea that they can revolve around PLAYER INTERACTION, guild based-warfare, community politics and metagame, and generally really trying to be MASSIVE multiplayer online games, with usual RPG stuff like stats etc., instead of a single player game with a dungeon finding mechanic (instanced of course...) and battlegrounds, never really crossed your mind, amirite?
Lemme guess, you've only ever played WoW and ToR as fas as MMORPGS go?
