Maybe I'll wait until it flops and then get it when they decide to make it free-to-play. ferrari2001You tell yourself that. Star Wars Galaxies says hi. It's star wars. Even if the game sucked worse than that game, it realistically can't fail like that.
So many pessimists, and I really don't see why. The game honestly doesn't look bad. Maybe a GW2 fan or something, cause if you like one, you apparently hate the other. I don't see why everyone can't get along. One should hope that both succeed and give wow some much needed competition. That said, i'm more than likely getting it.
Yeah, probably not either, tired of buying MMOs at release only to see them die out after 6 months. Plus I'm still not sold on KOTOR in MMO form yet.I may or may not get it around June or July of 2012 but I am definitely not getting it at release.

I'm either going to pass completely or wait until a free trial is offered, coupled with a massive price reduction of the initial box/account purchase. I have played far too many MMORPGs that make you feel like you're beta-testing them for the developers. Also, it'll be make or break for this game when the monthly fees start kicking in after the first month. I have a feeling SWTOR is going to bleed subscribers, and their retention rates will be atrocious.

It wont flop. Even if the game happened to suck, which it doesn't (beta tester), the popularity of Star Wars alone will ensure success.

The exepction being Star Wars: Galaxies had a garbage production team. This game is made by the same people as Mass Effect, Dragon Age etc.
Galaxies genuinley sucked. For real. No joke it was awful.

Galaxies was great, until they ruined it.
ME was bad, and Dragon Age Origins is how a good guide on how to not make a game. Copy paste encounters, terrible quests, major imbalance, ect.

SOE was a garbage development team? Didn't they develop Everquest, which was the most successful MMO up until that point? Bioware is great at developing single player RPG and hybrids such as ME but this will be their first MMO.[QUOTE="Maroxad"]

Xbox version was in a foreign language with no option to change it to english. PC version was bugged beyond belief. I didnt come very far so I cannot properly comment on it. Furthermore that game was 8 years ago.
Is George Lucas still a good movie director?
Edit: Anyhow, Bioware are still decent. It is only their direction they need to work on. What they do they do well (provide a cinematic roleplaying experience), but I am not happy with the direction they took with recent games.

Just wait and see. People are too eager at writing off Bioware like they are a second rate dev studio...I wonder why? Anyways, I like to play it, I really do but I don't have any plans for the game...at all. Skyrim, BF3 and a host of other games coming out + December Steam sale. + hopefully Diablo 3 in early 2012. Prolly only six months into 2012, I may finally get to play it...but by then Planetside 2 prolly launched or into beta. Oh well. haha.[QUOTE="Artekus"]

Galaxies definitely did not suck. It's still one of my favorite MMORPGs ever.
It had a sandbox world, was skill-based, lacked developer hand holding and spoon-fed "content," the economy was 100% player driven and the crafting was actually important since everything was made by the players. It was truly a simulated world to run around in and do whatever you wanted to do. The first year or so of the game was amazing and it was only when SOE and LA became greedy and started chasing WoW numbers that the game truly became garbage.
Oh, and I had a good laugh at KotOR being considered one of the greatest RPG of all time. It is? By whom? Generation Xbox?
Look, I'm not saying SWTOR is a terrible game. It's not but it's also not that good either. It's pretty ho-hum and run-or-the-mill, actually. It has high production values for sure but everything else is pretty mediocre. It might be worth a play-though once the price has dropped to less than $20.
Maybe I'll wait until it flops and then get it when they decide to make it free-to-play. ferrari2001
Flops.
Please don't make ridiculous comments unless you've actually played the beta.
So many people are hoping the game flops, dies and becomes F2P over night. The success of a PC game surely cannot be such a bad thing. IxX3xil3d0n3XxI
Cosign, I dont understand why so many are so set on it failing.
Im not super excited for it but Id like to see as many pc exclusives do well as possible.
These forums are going to be going crazy when gamespot gets there review up for this :P

If Dragon Age 2 received an 8 I have no doubt SWTOR is going to get, at the very least, a 15. :D
Its cool that it is finally coming out soon so we can actually see how it is. I am however going to wait at least 6 months before I even look at it. The first month or two everybody will be yelling how amazing it is and how its going to kill all other MMOs. After that is when you start hearing all the flaws that it is bound to have. Bioware is a good developer (despite my last game from them being NWN), but lets face it.....they don't make flawless games. Not to mention Bioware is mostly known for their single player experience despite NWN having an excellent multiplayer. I'm a bit worried based on everything I have read and everything people in the beta have been telling me that it will be WOW in space with less grinding especially since the most excited person in my EVE online corp got in the beta.......disappeared for a couple days then started staying on EVE all day despite the beta still running.
So many people are hoping the game flops, dies and becomes F2P over night. The success of a PC game surely cannot be such a bad thing. IxX3xil3d0n3XxII think people are still mad from Dragon Age 2, and they want BioWare to crash and burn.

still it has a solid fan base and it "should guarantee it success" yet it failed terribly bad, you won't play a crappy game just because you are a fan, maybe try it, but will get bored fast, Swtor is a carbon copy of wow.

Well... 1. The Star Trek fanbase is nowhere near that level. In fact, there is almost nothing that can compare to Star Wars enough to guarantee relative success. That calss has very few things in it. Star Trek, while quite popular, doesn't meet the criteria for that sort of popularity. 2. Its not a carbon copy of WoW. Its quite similar, but how is that a bad thing? WoW has been dying off because people simply were getting bored of the content. It takes the formula WoW was so successful with, and adds a whole new dimension with story. It also reinvigorates the formula with the classic Star Wars setting and such. Trust me, I have a few friends who loved WoW, but got bored of it for that very reason. When I told them about TOR, they were on board after only telling them about a few things.[QUOTE="xboxmad12"]1 month later more or less is the Diablo 3 release... And some months after that GW2.. Exactly, so you buy SWTOR with the free month, and play through it like it was a SP game, which the leveling is supposed to be like, then when other games hit, you get those. I'm probably going to pick up SWTOR just because Diablo 3 was delayed and I'm 99% sure GW2 isn't coming out this year either.
[QUOTE="biggest_loser"]Gee I can hardly wait. Full price for a game then "give us more money" - Ohhh look I have a lightsaber!! Zing zing! lx_theoIts an MMO? Purchase for development costs. Subscription for both upkeep. What did you expect? I expect it to be 100% free and not time consuming enough that I don't miss MasterChef!!

When I told them about TOR, they were on board after only telling them about a few things.ok lets say i agree with the fanbase and star wars has a greater fanbase, the game does nothing to innovate, it feels like wow in space and the movements and animations are very akward. People are bored with wow waiting for another mmorpg to take its place, why would they change for almost the same formula wow has and they are bored with? if i want a copy id rather play the original no? thats why wow clones die in six months at best. I have to say when i heard swtor and bioware i thought it was gonna be amazing, what a dissapointment they just followed the easy path. Back then i thought bioware wouldn't dissapoint like they did with da2 either.
i will stand my point, the only thing different that swtor has going on is the setting and story, and i personally think those are wrong elements for a mmorpg to focus, mmorpgs are all about gameplay, which swtor is weak at.
It HAS to flop. I will lose all hope on humanity if it doesn't. We've had enough carebear/casualised/theme-park, WoW-like crappy MMOs that are ''massive'' only in name. We need someone to make a *REAL*, hardocre old-school MMORPG.

Asian mmos can be decent as well.
To be honest, I would argue Asian mmos have improved a lot since the beginning of the century whereas western mmos have declined in quality (Guild Wars 2 looks like an exception to the rule). But alas, people will say lolasianmmo and say it is bad without even giving it a chance.

I give them a chance, but it's a fact that Asians can't make fun games, they don't create enjoyment, they create "jobs". They focus only on graphics, everything else is sub par, even if they have some nice idea behind them, they never deliver. It HAS to flop. I will lose all hope on humanity if it doesn't. The thing is, if it does flop, it'll strike a huge blow to BioWare, maybe one they can't recover from. The amount of money they've spent on this game is huge. Even with their recent screw ups, they're still one of the only big companies out there making decent RPGs.
