It HAS to flop. I will lose all hope on humanity if it doesn't. We've had enough carebear/casualised/theme-park, WoW-like crappy MMOs that are ''massive'' only in name. We need someone to make a *REAL*, hardocre old-school MMORPG.

QQabitmoar

i agree but lets face it, market is carebear, we are a minority

There isn't a large market for hardcore old-school MMORPGs anymore. Times have changed.

I'm all for difficult and challenging MMOs, but why does it have to be hardcore? Time and time again it's been proven that these kinds of games just aren't nearly as popular as their casual counterparts. They become niche titles that generally faze out rather quickly. You want to merge them together, an amalgamation of the two. A few pieces of theme park and casualization, with a heavy does of sandbox, freedom of choice, and challenge. Give players the option of partaking in the challenge and "hardcore" aspects of the game. Forcing anyone to do anything is a tried and true method of losing subs.

I think EVE is a good example of this, and I personally feel that if it wasn't set in space with ships instead of avatars - which they are attempting to change, albeit slowly - the amount of people playing would go through the roof. People tend to enjoy Fantasy games more.

Think if you do a hardcore mmorpg and done right..It could work..Times havent changed that much..People play wow hard corish..How ever they did water and dime that game and make it easy..Studio 38 is building a hard core mmorpg carnipricus..There the ones making reckoning..

Ive had star wars pre-ordered and paid for the last year..So ill be playing at launch..Not every day though..Bye than skyrim will be out..Also will have a ton of other games ill be working on..How ever half my time will be in the star wars kotor universe and i cant wait..

[QUOTE="ferrari2001"]Maybe I'll wait until it flops and then get it when they decide to make it free-to-play. ZombiezLovePie

You tell yourself that. Star Wars Galaxies says hi. It's star wars. Even if the game sucked worse than that game, it realistically can't fail like that.

That's what they said about Lord of the Rings.... And Warhammer online... See a pattern here?

One does not go F2P because it's popular. Its popularity/activity is average, most? nope any average free to play MMO has a similar number of players.

[QUOTE="DanielDust"] If only you actually cared for decent MMOs, but nope you wait for Asian MMOs with interesting concepts, like that will ever go anywhere, you're to one loosing hope?DanielDust

Asian mmos can be decent as well.

To be honest, I would argue Asian mmos have improved a lot since the beginning of the century whereas western mmos have declined in quality (Guild Wars 2 looks like an exception to the rule). But alas, people will say lolasianmmo and say it is bad without even giving it a chance.

I give them a chance, but it's a fact that Asians can't make fun games, they don't create enjoyment, they create "jobs". They focus only on graphics, everything else is sub par, even if they have some nice idea behind them, they never deliver.

That is not a fact, that is an opinion. Your opinion.

Just like in my opinion, ArcheAge looks a lot better than both WoW and SWTOR. And in other people's opinion, grinding is an enjoyable way to spend free time.

The fact that people here are hoping a game flops is pretty low. These people have worked day in day out to make a good game. If this game flops people will lose there jobs and that will affect their families. I would never hope anything flops. This game has a bigger budget than galaxies, has a more renowned production team behind it. I hope the game does well because I believe there is space for more than one MMO in the market. Can't SWTOR and GW2 just do equally well? Does there have to be some sort of fanboy war behind it? Just enjoy the games and stop fighting. GW2 and SWTOR are very different and appeal to different people.

Peace

[QUOTE="IxX3xil3d0n3XxI"]So many people are hoping the game flops, dies and becomes F2P over night. The success of a PC game surely cannot be such a bad thing. mirgamer

Cosign, I dont understand why so many are so set on it failing.

Im not super excited for it but Id like to see as many pc exclusives do well as possible.

Many are still upset that its a MMO game now instead of Kotor 3.

This. Economically, I get why they did it. But it still sucks. Not only do I have to pay for the game, but I have to pay to keep playing it? Lame I just hate the idea that I have to play it on their time table. I hate the idea that I have to get together with a group of people in order to beat a level/quest/boss.

Some people don't want those types of games. And there's nothing carebear about SWTOR. You'd know that if you actually played it.

Secondly, theme-park MMORPGs aren't necessarily bad. It's the best way to tell a story.

And lastly, it's not going to flop or become F2P anytime soon. Sorry.

Seems like this is the opinion---minus the lolasianmmo part---of some of the people on these boards concerning SWTOR.

I agree, people need to stop generalizing so much, and making up too many misinformed opinions on everything. SWTOR will be a good game, heck it might even be excellent, despite it's lack of innovation. Beta tests are proof of that.

That doesn't really say much when Wow has curbstomped the rest of the competition. LOTRO is just eating the breadcrumbs falling of Blizzards/activisions table, that's the cold hard truth. Saying that a game can't fail thanks to the franchise it is built upon is just plain wrong, Warhammer and Lord of the Rings proved that, I am glad that they're making money thanks to Free-2-play. Star Wars Galaxies failed as well, it's just that the users themselves blow up the game out of proportion. It wasn't that great to begin with.
