[QUOTE="Gladestone1"]Yep, around 2mil. It'll have at least 1mil just on the star wars theme alone Yeah it's currently around 2mil with these numbers probably rising since it releases in Asia/Oceanic 1st of March. I was talking to the guy at EB Games yesterday and he said his store alone has about 50 pre-orders. What this article describes is that it must maintain AT LEAST 1mil subs to not work at a loss. So far so good, will have to wait and see in the future.Doesnt it have it at this stage any how?

I still don't believe an MMO is too expensive compared to a full priced SP Game. Content/Gameplay Hours wise.Let's help bioware by subscribing... meh 2 expensive..

I just think paying for a game once and then paying $15 a month after that is ludacris. I mean, the content updates aren't worth that at all.

monthly content and patching, server farms, electric bills, equipment, designers, employees on hand at all hours, etc aren't free for the company Not only that, it's called a subscription cause you get CONTINUOUS content/patching. I always use the gym analogy to sort of ilustrate my point: - You buy a gym equipment for your house (like buying a SP Game). U pay full price and use the equipment as much as you want, but it's still the same equipment with the same exercises. (like the SP Campaign). - You join a gym, they charge u a joining fee and then monthly subscription (like an MMO). You get lots of equipment with continuous maintenance and upgrades and also constant advice from trainers. Whether an MMO or not is worth it depends on the person playing and if they like it, but the content/fixes/upgrades etc. you get for $15 a month on an MMO is more than u get for a SP Campaign at full price in a month. That is what analysts are predicting. Not necessarily a fact. Analysts can be wrong as well, especially if their name is Michael Pachter. Take this with a grain of salt. I heard from another source they need at least 500k.
Bioware seem to be fixing my issues with the game, and from what I heard nearly everyone say on the forums, Taris is by far the weakest planet in the game. I might resub once the next patch comes out, where they stated that they might just remove the ability delay.

Monthly content and patching is all your getting though, the monthly content is like what, a flashpoint and some new quests? Secondly your comparing a gym membership to an MMO?! dude... also SP games get patched too! (BF3, Skyrim etc..) I just think for what the consumer is getting it's a total waste of money. I'm not buying GW2 but they aren't charging a subscription and are giving monthly content patches the same as WoW, SWTOR.

Yes, you get new quests, items, flashpoints, missions etc....even new areas in some cases. It's mostly to do with gameplay hours.
The way an MMO is structured means that "generally" you will spend more time playing it monthly than what you get out of a SP game. Yes, SP game get patched too....but only to fix bugs. Rarely do they offer a new area or quests. This is mostly done with DLCs or Expansions, WHICH ARE CHARGED.
The $15 x month model is slowly declining though as I have noticed on lots of MMOs.
PS: why not compare it to a gym membership? I'll give you another example. Zune and it's monthly subscription. You pay monthly and get access to millions of songs which are updated weekly. It's cheaper than going out and buying each song/CD separately.

Just cause a game is bad initially it doesnt mean it wont it is always bad (see EverQuest 2 for this). SWTOR looks to be improving in quality quite fast. 1.1 may have done a lot of damage, but by the looks of things, Bioware seems to be fixing the damage caused.

So it's not really a complete fail now is it? ;)My buddies have still been playing nothing but SWTOR since it's release - makes me go to my SP only games :( - Man, but they ***** and moan the entire time, so there must be something there that keeps them coming back for more, but to me it sounds like they get more frustration from playing than fun IMO.
uhm, they only need 800k to be exact. But they have a profit now. With all the games and CE that have been sold they have made a profitDoesnt it have it at this stage any how?

So yes, it does some things right.
I am sure you already know what I dont like about it so no need mentioning it. But of all the things I didnt like about SWTOR, the biggest issue by far is appearantly getting fixed next patch.

MMO's have expansions too, WoW has got 3 and one on the way and no doubt SWTOR is working on one as we speak,

- Planets are varied, heck, there is a planet with a city setting.
- Science fantasy setting (I may not like Star Wars EU, but it certainly beats elves)
- Plenty of content

Look they already came out with a large patch called 1.1..Added another raid and another planet..There doing a great job in my eyes..The que lines are no longer around you can pop in at any given time with no wait..Its awesome in my eyes..
Im already playing my second char in my commando got him up to lvl 18 and ive got a lvl 32 sage..

I'm not saying what they did isn't great, but it's not fair for a non MMO game to compare the free content it might get through a patch/dlc with the content a MMO might get with an important patch.

I really think u need to look at the difference and time it takes to create each one. And didn't CDPR bring out that DLC for FREE cause of some mistake they made? Maybe they had it planned for charge all along...
If this game didn't have "Star Wars" in the title or Bioware as the developer, this game would be getting panned/ignored so much more. It's a bad game with horrible graphics. I understand that if you spent 60 bucks of your money you want to justify your purchase, but seriously, try looking at the game objectively and don't give them any more of your money. They don't deserve it. It's a STAR WARS cash grab with voiceovers, hideous armor and color palette. Characters are plastic-looking Ken dolls. The gameplay brings NOTHING new. With all the money and time a company like Bioware through at this project, they should have something much better to show than what's currently on display. Ugh.
I know many people are critical of this game but I am really enjoying it and have been since the early access.

How many people does it have now? I saw some sales chart with very declining sales numers, and there are also tons of people saying they would unsubscribe, etc etc. Also, all the negativity it was getting, overexaggerated or not, hillarious or not, it did it's part.
Anyway, do we have any numbers on the active subs now?
I don't mind the graphics, it has sort of a Clone Wars feel to it (which is what one of the devs said they tried to go for). Gameplay is very similar to other MMOs, but I like the addition of companions and actual voice acting which really brings the characters more to life. I understand it's not the next evolution in MMOs, but fun still. But that's just me, I get that other people it's not their cup of tea.If this game didn't have "Star Wars" in the title or Bioware as the developer, this game would be getting panned/ignored so much more. Some interesting notes on the article it self
Art has been outsourced to Russia, Estonia and China. Motion capture filming is done in L.A. and Vancouver, Canada, with voices recorded in New York, London and Paris in English, French and German. Quality assurance testing takes place in Romania, Argentina and India, while technical operations are run out of Virginia and the customer service center operates in Ireland.

Still baffled by the $200 million dollar cost and yet they still cut corners on the engine. As evidenced by the http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=233714
