Hey guys, I never got to experience SS2, and would really, really like to, so I'm planning on ordering it through Amazon.com. (no I wont order it from Ebay) Well with that out of the way, I would like to know what problems I might face (if any at all) with getting this game to work on Vista. Thanks guys.

I have SS2 and ATM I can't make it work on Vista. I think that it's a low possibility that it will run on it.

Some people had luck though. At least that's what I think...

Hmmm, that's not very reassuring. Thanks for the input though! : )

I know how to make it work on xp flawlessly, but its a lot harder on vista. If you can, just play it on another older pc with xp. Or go to a friends house. Or the library. Or dual-boot xp. Do what it takes to make it run, because this game is amazing.greatmax1

Well, what would I have to do to make it work on XP? I happen to still have my old PC in the other room, and it has XP.

Ehhh the sad thing is, that I will probably never be able to play it due to all these compatibility issues.

Don't worry about the naysayers. I've been using Vista Home Premium 32bit for nearly a year now, and I got System Shock 2 running FLAWLESSLY. I simply had to change the affinity in the process to one core (Since the game does not support multiple processors). I actually remember having problems running the game on XP.

How would I go about changing the game to only use 1 core? :P I think I might order it, the only reason I'm hesitant is I can only find it around the $50 price range.

Youre lucky to have encountered only this problem. Chances are he will have to get 2-3 fixes to get it working right. Now, to theGTAvaccine, there is a whole forum dedicated to that : www.ttlg.com . There is also www.strangebedfellows.de for useful doanloadable fixes. I recommend you get it (i actually payed around $60 for my copy + shipping) and if you ever have problems just pm me about it. If its on xp, then there is a 100% chance we can get it working.

You are my savior!

ILove that game. Made for Windows 95 or 98. Had problems with Windows XP. Glad to know it will run on Vista.

Load the game, alt tab out, ctrl alt del, processes tab, select SHOCK2.EXE, right click and go to set affinity, untick either cpu 1 or cpu 0.

You have to do it every time. There may be a way to set it up so it does it automatically, but it's not much of a hassle to do it manually.

Thanks alot, and to be honest, I've wanted to get SS2 for a while now, but it was actually your video review that really pushed me over the fence. You should feel good about that. :P

start game, press alt-ctrl-del, locate the active process of ss2, right click on it, and set it to run on 1 core only.

There you go, ss2 works now :P

If you have a hard time finding the system shock 2 process just right click on the "System Shock 2" task in the Applications tab, and then click on "Go to Process" and it should send you straight to the process. From then on in you just do as the 2 people before me said, right click, click on "set affinity" and set it so only one Core is checked off.
