Any major differences between Teamspeak and Ventrilo? Thinking of signing up for one of them to chat with my buds in TF2 and other games.

Both are great. I think TeamSpeak 3 has a bit better audio quality but it really all depends on the codec you use. I would say get whatever one is cheaper.

They are both good. I use Ventrilo though since most of my friends use it. I like it just a bit more.

This! My friends and I have also been experimenting with Mumble, which is pretty good. It's supposed to have very little lag.. but test it with Skype and you'll see how good Skype is, as they're pretty comparable. Vent has a really big delay by comparison. I could understand if you had a really large guild or clan or something, Teamspeak would be beneficial.. but for a handful of friends. Skype is perfect.

vent is great if you have a vent server. if you're running your own then it's up to your connection. vent also uses less resources compared to something like Skype if you're only running the client.

Alright, I'll check it out! I'd only be chatting it up with no more than about 7 people at a time, max. Maybe 8 if everyone gets online, for some random reason. :D

Ventrilo is more popular, but not necessarily better.

Agreed, Skype audio quality is amazing and it's really simple to set up. Might not be too great for more than a handful of people to use simultaneously though.

Ya I have never tried skype with more then 4 people. I didnt belive Skype would be better then teamspeak, steam or xfire for chatting, but boy was a wrong, it blows the other programs I use to use to chat while gaming to shame.

Ventrilo. I believe it uses less resources than something like Skype. You also don't have to sign up for anything. It doesn't try to run in the background all the time like Skype does.

I like Vent's easy push-to-talk setup, but run Skype and Vent at the same time and you'll be able to hear the lag difference. The sooner I can say BEHIND YOU to my friend, the better chance he has :D

I know Vent has a second or so of lag, it's really not enough to bother me. And I assume it uses less bandwidth so I'm good with it.

Vent. Teamspeak just annoys me, I don't like the UI. It was also really buggy when Vent first came out so a lot of people jumped ship to Vent, including myself. Skype eats up way to many resources for something that just needs to run in the background when gaming, not to mention having to sign up to use it. Plus the fact that you can run a Vent server on a 2 year old netbook as long as you have good broadband means just about anyone can set one up.

Skype doesn't have a push to talk button so you pick up a lot of background noise. That said I find TS3,Vent and Mumble all fine.

TS3> Vent> TS2

Skype might be good with friends but when you are in a large clan or guild it wont work out.

Mumble > anything else.
