In my 17 years of gaming I have never witnessed before what is happening with 'The Modern Warfare' fiasco.

I've been talking to a friend of mine whom also has about 19 years of gaming behind him and he also cannot recall anything as big as this.

The way the PC community has come together in uproar and the way I have seen fellow PC enthusiasts react and cancel their pre-orders makes me proud to be a PC Gamer.

Thank you all for this.

It is something I am happy to see. I had no preorder to cancel as I won't have the money to buy it when it comes out but I did sign the petition.

I don't know anyone personally that had it preordered, but everyone I know that was planning to eventually get it for PC has changed their mind.

PC gamers don't want watered down console crap, and hopefully not just IW but all the devs will see that.

Yes. Most of PC players are very organized people; if we can teamwork in 40 players raids in WoW or cooperate to build clans and make custom contents to lot of different games is not that hard to unite against a decision that wants to give us less for more money.

I don't think we'll be able to organize a mass boycott for this game, there will be people buying it.

While gamers might try to organize a boycott, there is still a much stronger force that's driving the pile of **** called "the game industry" forward: Casuals. What do I mean when I say "casuals"? I mean the people who don't really care about gaming, they just want something to keep them entertained for an hour, and they will buy anything that says "halo", "call of duty" or "madden" on the box. Regardless of the price and regardless of the quality.

Actually there are a very very VERY large group of folks who are already...in someway, executing a large-scale "boycott" (and they will be extremely successful). Its not even an organised thing...not a planned event and they don't even give a **** about the MW 2 uproar/fiasco. They are called....the pirates :P Arrrrrrrrr.... Ok in seriousness...MW 2 would probably see a bit of a slump in PC sales...but I don't think Activision/IW care coz the consolites will...as usual, bend over EN-MASSE (willingly too) like they always do whenever some suits thought of creative new ways to rip their customer's' guts out.

I'm not sure there will be a way to measure how successful the boycott is. I guess if we see figures of MW 2 selling poorly, or significantly less than COD 4 maybe that's an indication. Online player numbers won't tell us anything because it's a new system and if you ask me destined for a hugely reduced player base after a few weeks. However I believe the majority of people are probably blissfully unaware of the lack of dedicated servers yet, they probably just show up around launch day and buy it. But that might also mean a good amount of rage on release.

hmm... well not sure how successfull the boycott is : currently the game is at No. 17 on amazong best sellers list (highest for any PC game this year except Sims and DA; O). then again it may be due to the $20 coupons given by amazon

I planned on missing the COD:MW2 launch anyways. I don't know about you guys, but I would much rather have L4D2 and Dragon Age over COD:MW2. Spending $100 bucks in one month on video games is about all I can afford. IW has made the choice easy for me now =P

Remember to show your "support" of this game on it's ratings for amazon and other sites when it comes out. Just to let the masses know what we think of it.

Ah this reminds me of the left 4 dead 2 fiasco, look how that ended up. The game will sell no matter what, PC gamers are a small fraction of he consumers for this multi platform game. Its all wasted effort.

Unfortunately publishers look at the bottom line, period. If PC gamers send out a message that says "We won't put up with this crap, we're not buying your game." the publisher will most likely respond by saying "OK, we'll stop publishing PC games."

140000 signatures looks nice and all, but it's a drop in the ocean for them. From what I read they made 70 million on the WaW map packs alone, that's propably more than the whole PC version. Still, nice to see people stand up every once in a while.

Could be, but maybe it's not such a bad thing, it would give room for other games from smaller devs and publishers, games that do less compromises.

Nah, I think they will consider 140000 signatures as a big deal. That's $8million-$9million loss for them. If they compare the amount that they'd spend adding dedicated servers to MW2... it's probably worth it for them to actually listen to the customer.

last I heard over 100,000 people have signed the boycott. If 100,000 people dont buy the game, thats almost 6 million dollars not sent to IW. Thats a fairly large dent imo.

ummmm a boycott is when you refuse to buy something unless they give in to your demands. You dont have to say "we wont buy it" because the word "boycott" says it already.

no where on the whole petition does it say boycott, again the petition says:

"Get Infinity Ward to review their decision not to allow fully dedicated servers for their forthcoming game release CoD:MW2. Remember that this Call of Duty was made popular by PC Gamers who have supported the series throughout."

all I get from this is "IW please reconsider about dedicated server." no where does it say in any, way, shape or form that all people who signed this won't buy the game, sure some people won't buy it, but not buying the game is not a requierment of the petition

In the past COD games have sold well on the PC. If this game doesn't sell that well due to PC gamers not buying and supporting it do you really think they'll just drop the entire market and lose out on all the profits their games usually make instead of going back to their old business model with their next title? IW and Activision know there's a lot of money to be made in PC games and so do their shareholders. If their profits drop they will back off, they care more about money then pride.

A boycott would be much more effective. Then the people who started the trend could get a free trip to visit the developers and schmoozed into saying everything was good and we should all buy the game anyway. No wait...thats L4D Two...Sorry I got confused!

right there, the defeat comes from right there. as PC gamers, we have the freedom to choose whether we like the original game or want some mods. i hate mods and i hate MP, but still im feeling furious. its the principle we are talking about.

100,000 people not buying this game is 6 million dollars Activision isn't getting.. This boycott should really be a thorn in their side.

100,000 signed the pettition.

This is a big deal regarding cost of the game versus content delivered, but I personally don't find it big enough to boycott the game. Sorry, I will be getting it on launch :(

Go ahead, lol. Its not really a big deal, peer to peer was lag free on console. Personally I wont buy it, seems to be too much like the previous games leaving me no reason to get it. Not to mention the single player has been boring since call of duty 2.

I wasn't going to get the game in the first place because it looked like the same thing all over again.
