What one organization and who is Karatechop? Switch servers if you don't like the one you are in. Or if you are actually talking about a guild, then join another one. Why quit the game?

What makes you think that all 11 million people playing WoW are addicted to it? I also think the term addicted is grossly overused when it comes to WoW, barely anybody plays the game as much as people would make you (Or you would make people) believe, not to mention the stigma that if you play WoW you're a fat greasy nerd is completely wrong. I play Eve Online because it's not remotely addicting :P Plus you skill in real-time so you don't actually have to play to get good skills, and can never max out a character!

yes but as yahtzee cronshaw so nicely put it: to gain a skill you log off and go live your life then come back later and magically get that enchancement/ability.. whats the point of skill and attribute trees if you dont work for them?

and... I never liked the game. I have signed up for it 4 or 5 times now becuz I have friend who beg me to play. I manage to play a few days and then feel sick about the time I force my self to play that garbage. I can see how ppl like it but I personally cant stand it. Tons of content to waste your time with...if you like wasting that kind of time on the fedex bull crap. Save the $15 a month and buy ANYTHING else.

I quit for the second time and I'm done for sure. Been months since I touched the game and couldn't give a damn. End game raiding (which I did VERY little of), just seems so incredibly boring. I think that WOW was more entertaining before all the expansions started coming out. I love all the areas on the original continent but care for very little of the content in the expansion packs. I didn't even get to 80 before quitting.

I'm done with MMO's and will never touch one again.. Untill Star Wars comes out... Should have a new computer by then.

I cut myself loose this week too. Fresh reinstall of windows and I can't be bothered reinstalling WoW. Now all I have to do is not reinstall it the next time they bring an expansion out! I'll still be handing over all my money to Blizz though. Can't imagine I'll be able to resist Starcraft2 or Diablo3!!

pigandforks

Yeah because Starcraft, Warcraft III & Diablo I & II are such terrible games....

Oh wait..... no they are pretty much the best of their respective genres.

And there is nothing wrong with playing WoW, it's a fine MMO, one of the best if not "THE" best MMO on the market..... it's all about time management,

WoW has a way of pulling you in, demanding a large part of your available time..... and it's a cheap solution for gamers that can't afford to be buying

new games all the time.

However for me, I'd rather drop $50-60 every month on a new game and experience alot of different genres, and have multiple experiences, than to spend my time hunting for gear with +1 more Str, Int, etc than the gear I currently have.

ie: a couple years ago I spent 5 months raiding MC & BWL and my gear didn't change once, because well, my guild leaders were idiots, but there just wasn't much gear for Crit Warriors back then. And I was way behind one of the other guildies in terms of DKP, so even if something did drop, it wasn't going to me.

It's fun though having your character being known on a server, everyonce in a while I'd be playing and someone would whisper me "Are youthe original GROMAX"?

Anyways, I'm rambling, and I better stop talking about WoW b4 I get the shakes.

I playedWOW for 1 year straight and the experience was well worth it. Now its been 3 years since i last played. People always complain about the game being addictive, but actualy, the problem is with some of the gamers (like the author of this topic and those that say wow is bad), not the game. I met alot of friendsin WOWand its one of the best experiences of my life (with the top guild). If you cannnot control yourself to play and even manage your own time properly, thenits your problem sorry :p

WOW is a game that turned out really good, that those who cant control it gets sucked into it.

Many of you may be too young to have heard this old piece of wisdom, but, as the saying goes: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

Anyone reading this thread that may have never tried WoW, don't even bother. You will be the richer and the wiser for it.

And I agree with the comment on Eve, that game so sucks and is so boring it amazes me that ppl actually waste their money on it. . There' no sense of accomplishment in that game, just wait....... And, uh, wait some more....... Then wait until your waiting is done and Finally! ....No, wait, you gotta wait till tomorrow for that. :P

CCP really embraces another old saying: "There's a sucker born every minute." Nowadays, looking at the WoW numbers, I think that saying should be updated to "every second." :P

Just my 2 cents worth which ain't worth a plug nickel nowadays.

It's for the best. WOW is more work than fun. Yes, there are some very enjoyable moments. But you spend a lot of time doing things that aren't enjoyable. Grinding to level, farming for things, raiding (which can be fun the first few times round) for a specific piece of gear. Etc.

As soon as you get that great piece of gear or loot you're ecstatic for a little while until.. You start the process all over again. It's addicting because people like enhancing their characters, making them better. But even if you hunker down and play hour after hour all day long to get the very best gear in the game. Eventually new content comes out and you need to start all over again.

It's not the kind of fun that a game like Counter-Strike, or Company Of Heroes has. You play those games because they're enjoyable the entire time that you play.

You play WOW to make your character more powerful, and IMO, it's not fun the entire time that you play.

wow, lol so many people throw the terms addiction and disorder/disease/syndrome around when none of them are accurately used lol not even 10% of the time. If even that much.

secondly. quit wow because you want to quit wow. "the game doesnt suck, but it is going downhill in alot of areas as of the past few months." < opinion.

third i can definately see where blizzard is honestly caring less and less about their fans. it seems like blizzard dev teams are like : "What sorry I can't hear you over how much money I have!"

I've only played the trial. But you don't just stop playing the game so that you can train skills. You train skills while you play, and then when you log off to sleep (some WOW players don't understand this word) you switch to a skill with a long training time. You're not paying to not play, if anything it's a nice feature to speed things up even when you're not playing.

And what's wrong with living your life?

Absolutly nothing is wrong with living your life. I live my life. What's wrong is NOT living your live, i.e. 83% of all World of Warcraft players.(Social Stereotype) I'd rather live my life than play a fantasy game for a few more hours so I can get enough exp. to level up and get the Magical Flaming Sword of Superman's Enormous Gigantical Cape of Frosti-Dude and Chickens That Run Around With Their Heads Chopped Off Because They Pissed Off The Chainsaw Dude From Resident Evil 4 When They Gave Leon Directions To Sarah Palin's House So He Could Shoot Russian Caribou With Sarah's Huge AK-47: Icy Edition......

Most people who play wow play it maybe 2-3 hours a day maximum. Usually around 1, judging by most of the real life people I know that play it. Unless you want to raid/pvp all day, there is really no point to playing it longer than that.

I feel sad and sorry about you.... Just because you don't enjoy WoW or EVE doesn't mean they both suck, or they are a waste of time, or the people playing them are suckers. If WoW, EVE or something else makes someone happy playing it....then fine, let them play it. If they want to waste some hours playing, it's their choice. Maybe there is something you do that makes YOU happy, but someone else doesn't like that....does that make YOU A SUCKER ???

What makes you think that all 11 million people playing WoW are addicted to it? I also think the term addicted is grossly overused when it comes to WoW, barely anybody plays the game as much as people would make you (Or you would make people) believe, not to mention the stigma that if you play WoW you're a fat greasy nerd is completely wrong. It's okay not to like the game, it just pisses me off when people assume crap like that is the truth.

addiction is a term that is normally associated with chemicals, (nicotine, marijuana) but it doesn't quite make sense for other stuff. there isn't enough evidence to support that video games actually cause addiction, tbh. source: grand theft childhood by Kutner and Olsen frankly, i'm tired of the word addicted being used to describe someone who plays games more than they should

Is there a better word?

It might be too strong a word, if that's what you're thinking.

If they can't go without playing a game then they are addicted, by definition.

Diablo 1 is a great game the rest are pretty average

[QUOTE="Kh1ndjal"][QUOTE="Im_single"] What makes you think that all 11 million people playing WoW are addicted to it? I also think the term addicted is grossly overused when it comes to WoW, barely anybody plays the game as much as people would make you (Or you would make people) believe, not to mention the stigma that if you play WoW you're a fat greasy nerd is completely wrong. It's okay not to like the game, it just pisses me off when people assume crap like that is the truth.Swiftstrike5

addiction is a term that is normally associated with chemicals, (nicotine, marijuana) but it doesn't quite make sense for other stuff. there isn't enough evidence to support that video games actually cause addiction, tbh. source: grand theft childhood by Kutner and Olsen frankly, i'm tired of the word addicted being used to describe someone who plays games more than they should

Is there a better word?

It might be too strong a word, if that's what you're thinking.

If they can't go without playing a game then they are addicted, by definition.

Every fourth WoW player is addicted, I read that on an analitic site sometime ago. That makes, hmm, a little less than 3 million wowmaniacs. Not too bad I think.

Ok that was sarcasm. I'm sure the guys who say that the word is too strong have no relatives which suffer from video game addiction. Because that's the creepiest thing I've ever seen.

[QUOTE="Xavier_12"]Its funny that people always associate playing WoW with addiction. Its not heroin people.pooyanh
No it's not. It's much worse...

Hillarious...

Sorry people but there is no "WoW addiction" or any other video game addiction. It really comes down to afew things; it is more fun than other stuff in your life so youdo it. You are so imbeded in the social aspect of it (guilds/friends)you feel you would be letting people down by leaving so you stay way past the point of it being fun anymore. Or, you are the kind of person thatgets satisfaction from progression and you look forward to that next level or next gear upgrade so you stay at it.

I quit months ago when it stopped being fun and haven't looked back. Not even remotely interested in playing it again, ever. It is a great game, but like all great games there does come a point that other stuff is just more fun to do and has more of a return on time spent. Once I had nothing but rep grind left to do, I knew it was time to leave, so I did.

fun =/= addiction unless you have some real mental issues. The 10% "cigarette in one hand, pizza in the other, beer between their legs and friend on their way over with a dime bag" kind of person.

99% of my family plays video games and none of them are what I would consider "addicted". All of my friends play video games and none of them have issues pulling themselves away from it either. Hmmm... does your family tree look more like a ladder than a tree? (just kidding, couldn't help myself :) )

ive said it once in this thread ill say it again.

atleast 80% of your addictions... syndroms... diseases.... and disorders are not even real.

they are excuses and scapegoats...

you can take a break from the game. you can quit. its all freaking choice....

even those that say i cant... yes you can its choice..

and those that say "i know someone that just CANT" again its their choice..

wow is a fun game. i play it, but im gonna be busy with new guitar, the orange box, and star wars empire at war, all of which i just ordered...

so i wont be on wow much for a while.

lol its sad that everyone thinks that if anyone likes anything to any type of passionate degree its then an addiction..

Good job for quitting the game... but I still think that it is a good game as long as you don't let it become everything you do in life.
