Best Far Cry 2 LOL? Are you serious...? It is like they walked out on the street and grabbed a couple homeless people to do the voice acting in that game... No emotion, no pauses, no nothing... Everything was run on for them...

theytalkedlikethis.pausedlikethis.showednoemotionlikethis.

Half the time I couldn't even understand what they were saying and had to use the subtitles because they used no pauses and so it sounded like they were combining words...

Actually, s/he put it under 'Worst". Look closer.

Best :----->>>>> UT3

Worst :--------->>>>>>> Far Cry 2

Is it better like this?

Never played a game with worse voice acting than Parkan II. This game makes Two Worlds voice acting sound proffesional.

A link for your listening.... um, pleasure.

Oblivion (because there are only about 6 actors voicing the hundred or so NPCs in the game. eurgh...)broken_bass_bin
There are twelve different voice actors for NPCs in Oblivion. Considering that it was really the first game to have full spoken dialog for such an unprecedented amount of unique NPCs, I find it fairly forgivable. I understand why it bothers some people, but it seriously never really got to me at all. It helps that all of the voice actors are really, really good (excluding Linda Carter, of course.)

Edit: Woops. Okay, I guess there are 10 actors, but there are 12 distinct character voices.

I have always felt that Blizzard games have good voice acting (especially in their cinematics). Another game that stands out for me is the LoK games (especially SoulReaver).

Probably the only game that actually made me think "the voice acting in this game is awesome", is Half-Life 2.

Got to mention Psychonauts too. Awesome voice acting.

Didn't the main character from Bioshock have a couple of lines at the start of the game?

kieranb2000

D'oh! Now that you mention it I think you're right. Scratch that one from the list and replace it with System Shock 2's main character. :)

But seriously, Mass Effect is one of my all time favs for best voice acting (overall) along with the other Bioware titles like KOTOR1/2 and Jade Empire. The ending credits of Jade Empire where the actors were speaking as the virtual actors talking about other roles that they had done was particularly funny.

As for worst acting, Res evil 1 of course but James Earl Jones couldn't have done anything with that ackwardly translated dialog (mmmm, Jill Sandwhich). Also, a number of early Dreamcast titles were pretty bad like Blue Stinger and the English version of Shenmue. The first Clock Tower game for US PS1 was also HORRIBLE. One of the main characters literally sounded like a Speak N Spell when he spoke, which we realized after beating the game with all of the endings and unlocking the outtakes that the voice actor probably learned his lines phonetically and actually spoke no English.

Although I don't really count these because they are pretty light on dialog, the House of the Dead series was always ludicrous.

Best: Defense Grid has surprisingly good voice acting.

Team Fortress

Company of Heroes

Worst: It's not for the PC but Shenmue had pretty bad voice acting. It got high ratings though. I don't know many PC games that have bad voice acting.
