I have to admit that when I heard that they were making an Elder Scrolls MMO I was excited, but uneasy at the same time and I didn't know what to think. However, after watching the introduction video on the ESO website I actually feel a lot better, but what does everyone else think?

I always thought that an Elder Scrolls MMO has potential for greatness, but when the initial details came I quickly dismissed it.

However, after watching some of the gameplay, and read some of the details about the game itself, the game seems pretty good.

For some reason while I watched the gameplay I felt that distinctive Vanilla WoW feel - one of my favourite game franchises, going MMO while retaining much of it's personality (at least on first glance).

Dunno, it's probably just me.

Subscription means I will probably never play it, but the game looks decent. The environments look awesome, and way more varied than Oblivion and SKyrim.

My first impression was disgust at how little it looked like Elder Scrolls. That first round of screenshots was awfully disappointing. However, the latest gameplay preview video I watched really changed things around. The game now retains the look and feel of Elder Scrolls, from the environments to the weapons/armor to the combat system itself. I also love that they're going with the single-server system rather than sharding. The game certainly has the potential to be a hit and I've got my eye on it.

True, the latest gameplay vid puts the game in a much better light. I'm quite excited for it now while my previous reaction to its earlier announcements was rather meh. The environments are beautiful and their single server system is a step in the right direction for MMOs to take, its very smart.

It can survive if they make sure not to do more than they can handle. If they try to do too much it will fail. Look at SWTOR, people talk crap about it but it's subscriber base is holding steady.

It will most likely fail like all MMO's that arent WOW and will become free2play. I will be surprised if it does good.

After watching the lastest Gameplay video with developer commentary, I'm really looking forward to it. As long as it uses the same model as Guild Wars (pay for the game once, no fee's) then i'm all over it.

This is the video that changed my view on the game:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlEipFtHw7o

Why does every MMO have to be called a "WoW Killer"? It's just stupid. Clearly if another game was going to kill it it would have done so already what with the countless MMO's released since WoW.

WoW will eventually die on it's own, not by the hand of another game.

They should have stuck closer to the combat system of the single player Elder Scrolls games. They took out the aiming and the physics.

Can't decide... They are messing with one of my favorite franchises, and not in a way that I agree with. I'll withhold judgment for now, but I'm not pleased...

Monthly fees make sense to me if new content is free, and there is no cash shop. If the game is well-supported, it could be money well-spent.

Presuming it has one which will probably be the case. If not, scores nicely and doesn't have a 2 wooden sticks rubbing each other combat i may get it.

I think it's gonna go the same way TOR did. So yeah I predict that, like TOR, it'll be one of the worst games of all time and a public lesson for all game devs.

GW2 has none and get lots of free content. monthly fees should only exist where the most hardcore mmo players are at, Korea.

If the monthly fee goes toward the salaries of programmers, artists, and other game development roles, so that they can provide content, at no extra charge, to a great game, I see no problem with the system. I'm not understanding why it needs to be Korea only.

I'm not saying that the monthly fee business model is the only one that works. GW2 seems to have a business model that works, by getting their money through the cash shop rather than subscriptions.

lol no it won't knock WoW, this has just as much chance as SWTOR/GW2, none. It will not dethrone wow but it will do good most likely and is hopefully a good game.

Frankly, I am not impressed. It looks like an MMO that just so happens to have Tamriel as its setting. What I wanted was a TES game that just so happens to be an MMO.

I'll keep an eye on it after release, and perhaps watch some real gameplay videos on Youtube.

See that's what I thought after the initial reveal. But after watching the last video preview, they really are maintaining the core elements of the singleplayer ES games.

I don't think the game sucked, I just think that it wanted to be a single player RPG but with MMO elements tacked on, it felt like a single player game which is fine but not when you're paying £8.99 a month for it.

HyperWarlock

MMOs can still have monthly fees. The monthly fee wasn't what killed SWTOR, the fact they never justified the fee was the issue. The game had enough content for 1-2 months. When you pay a monthly fee, you expect a constant flow of content updates that keep you busy. Look at Rift. Every 2-3 month the game has a big patch that adds a lot of stuff. There are constant world events and pretty much a constant stream of changes and little content updates. Now they have an expansion that nearly tripled the content.

People were happy to buy SWTOR knowing it was going to cost them monthly. The game just was not the greatest and once you beat your character's story, there wasn't much to do.

Guild Wars 2 suffers from that too (in my opinion) but since I'm not paying each month I can hardly knock that. I've gotten nearly 100 hours out of the game (which is quite a bit for me).

It will definitely be more difficult to sell a subscription based MMO, but it's not impossible.

The real thing you have to ask is, will this new combat system work and not turn into some dumb grindfest. The combat in the Elder Scrolls series has never been the deepest, and they are trying to model the MMO's combat off of the game. Their lasest reveals show some promising content. It looks like Guild Wars 2 in a lot of ways, a lot of good ways, but with the radical combat system they are proposing, will it be any good? Only time will tell.

It's gonna end up like SWTOR. Maybe with less lulz, but really, a theme-park elder scrolls MMO? It goes against everything the Elder Scrolls series stand for. Such a wasted opportunity, if done right, a less grindy, more user friendly sandbox MMO set in the Elder Scrolls world would be the best thing ever. But nah, WoW babbies don't like freedom in their MMOs.

Considering how immersive and atmospheric the single-player games were, putting that in the MMO world seems like a perfect fit. I'm looking forward to seeing how Bethesda will integrate the MMO characteristics and how it will change the Elder Scrolls experience.

At the moment, I'm pinning my hopes that this will be the first true WoW competitor.

i appreciate the beauty of elder scrolls games (and i've put hundreds of hours in the current generation ones) but i'm not hyped at all. if it has a monthly fee, i'm not touching it. steam sales have created large backlogs for me; and i don't even buy all the games i want, just those at good prices or ones i'm really hyped for. there's no reason why i should spend $15 a month for one game, when i could get a great new game every month for that price. if it's a one time fee; then i'm open to purchase provided i can play during a trial/beta. guild wars 2 is my new MMO yardstick.

They should of at least kept it first person perspective . Now that I know that they're going for third person perspective it becomes obvious that they're deviating from the series and are not attempting to revolutionize the genre. They will more than likely not take the market share and the game will end up as another born to fail MMO.

True that, Rift is holding pretty damn steady. And believe it or now, SWTOR is doing alright too. And it seems even The Secret World is doing ok, People and particularly publishers have to realise the truth is that most MMOs will only hold a couple hundred thousands recurrent subs at best. That was an accepted fact and norm pre-WoW. After WoW, it seems as long it didn't hit the 1million mark, the MMO is a fail. WoW is a fluke, not the standard.

the whole game is the endgame. it's been said countless times, pvp, wvw, questing, dungeons, and just about everything else except perhaps fractals of the mists can be done without reaching max level. why do you want your mind to be blown at "MAX LEVEL"? what if you could do all those things at *gasp* not max level? i've played 200+ hours and i'm still seeing new things in the game. cool things like giant monster events. if you want a grind, just say so.

Looking into getting into an MMO community, but I'm not into subscriptions. If ES isn't F2P or one-time purchase, that's a dealbreaker.

That's false. The whole game isn't endgame. There really isn't an endgame in GW2. They say that, and people say that just to come up with an excuse. Endgame by definition of MMO's has always been what it was and is, like in World of Warcraft. WoW has endgame. GW2 simply doesn't and never had it in GW1 either. This is Arena.net we're talking about. Every MMO has a grind. I played over 400 hours in GW2, and a good portion of that felt like a grind.

For instance, earning tokens for VANITY gear from the dungeons at lvl 80. They are pointless for anything but aesthetics which is crap and felt like a terrible grind and wasted time.
