Euclideon, which raised some eyebrows with their original engine presentation in 2011 has released a new presentation of their engine.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Irf-HJ4fBls

It looks like they target the geospatial industry instead of the gaming industry at this point.

Interesting.

Shame they couldn't afford a working microphone though, it sounds terrible.

Listen from 10 seconds to 20 seconds. Clipping and distortion.

that is pretty sweet.  I didnt have sound unfortunately, but it seemed like on the "creative" aspect it did not look all that great (but, I suppose theyre not game devs), but on the "scanning" side, it looked incredible, which does look promising should they decide to release a client for game developers.

Imagine the possibilities for flight or military simulations, flying or fighting in 100% geologically accurate terrain in anywhere in the world? Pretty sweet.  Or I dont know, downloading data about Mars and running around on there lol.

Like I said, didnt have sound so I might not be getting the whole picture, but I think I got the gist of things.

He's right, the sound is bad. That buzzing you hear is never good

If this tech actually works like they boast it would be amazing

There was a thread about this like 6 months ago and to sum it up, this tech is useless for gaming. And disabling comments for his video tells me that he's full of shit.

nah its because people call them out on the obvious flaws in their project like they did in previous videos. These guys know they're full of hot air.

There is no Cpu or card on the market that can render 50 billion points of laser scanned data in real time. Were not there yet.

The entire IT'S A SCAM thing comes from Notch, who couldn't even make a Java game run well.

Carmack was on board back then and is supporting them now too. id Tech 6 is going to use voxels. CryEngine 3 uses them for terrain. Unreal Engine 4 used voxel cone tracing for indirect illumination but the feature was canned because it was too difficult to run on current GPUs - it will surely return a couple of years from now.

The problem with voxels is animation. Euclideon had animation prototypes up and running. Physics and deformation are already proven to work by other voxel engines.

Euclideon got government funding, hired people from IBM, THQ, Mincom and others, expanded and this program is their first available product.

It's easily the best of its kind and it's going to be a hit in the geospatial industry.

Isn't the whole point of Euclideon's software to be able to render all those points in real time? They are running massive amounts of points on just a small laptop.

Well hopefully your wrong cause if it actually works and could be implemented into games that would be absolutely huuugee for the industry!

Great on them, I hope they have created what they claim to have created. That's a pretty excellent looking product for a construction and/or architectural company.

They think they're cool releasing one bullshit vids every 2 year or their engine takes 20 years to build?

Yeah I dont trust Notch who even decided in the first place that he should make a game in Java. Lol. Also C4 engine uses voxels for terrain. I don't understand why people listen to Notch for technological advice, he decided to make a 3d game in java. His opinion on graphical advancements is void.

This tech has been around for around a decade If I remember correctly, and absolutely nothing has been done with it. It's cool looking stuff, but with nothing much to substantiate it other then PR, the whole thing feels like hot air.

I'm thinking its because of how much hate and comments saying "FAAKEE" on all there other videos they decided to disable ratings and comments. If future businnes partners of Euclideon saw there video demonstrating all there geospatial software and the comments and ratings were horrible its probably not too great for sales.

Who should you believe in? Someone that created and has experience of a game with millions of fan videos and millions of paying users or a company that still haven't released any software to the public and not want to share details? Notch said it was bad marketing and has nothing against the tech, he loved to be proved wrong. If he said the problems is about storage and animation, how come Euclideon still showcase static data in GB sizes that still has holes and dotted graphics? 2011 it was all about comparing with games, now it's something else. Their homepage and showcases are full of bragging promises but no deadlines. Is it such companies we want to see in future?
