My vote's for WiC

Pros:

- Arguably Best Graphics in an RTS to date

- Excellent, immensely complex Rock Paper Scissors gameplay

- Very, Very well balanced

- Gripping, dramatic campaign

- Easy to run

Cons:

- public servers are full of people who don't know how to play

WiC is good but not best all time. From my experience and the list I'd say Starcraft and I thought WC 3 was terribly overrated.

Best of all times has to be starcraft, i remember when it first came out like 10 years ago, it was completly revolutionary forthe RTS genre.

COH has made it difficult to play all other rts. COH cover system, resource system and just amazing gameplay has made all other sucks to me.

has to be CoH, one of the best looking RTS out and has amazing gameplay. plus it has an expansion pack and another one coming out this spring. The most fun I've had with an RTS.

This list is complete and utter failure. How could you possibly list DoW2 yet leave out the father of real-time strategy: Dune II? Not only that, the paternal unit of the modern RTS formula: Command & Conquer? Do you forget that Warcraft II came before Warcraft III and was unbelievable? Furthermore, you left out the first title to successfully incorporate elements of Civilization into RTS circles: Age of Empires. Company of Heroes and World in Conflict are nice and shiny and make big things go boom, but they hardly innovate the genre. They might be glittering examples of technology or the hottest sellers right now, but they are far from the greatest RTS's ever made. Shame on you.

Tie between Homeworld and Total Annihilation.

Swiftstrike5

+1 for both.....I would also add Supreme Commander:Forged Alliance & Warhammer 40K:Dawn of War into that mix.....

I also agree with krazyorange, that the poll is a list of RTS games that do not belong here...WIC ? ...please !

Company of Heroes is certainly the best RTS I've played recently, although Sins of a Solar Empire and Supreme Commander are also excellent. As for old school, I have to go with Total Annihilation over Starcraft, as I've never really been a fan of blizzard's RTS formula. Also, Red Alert was quite good.

All of them are very good RTS. I voted for COH on the basis of campaign story (I don't play online). Company of Heroes is the best. Dow and Starcraft has good story but not like COH. WiC is lame, there are many flaws in the story.

WiC = not RTS. Replace that with Homeworld, which I'd vote for.

Otherwise, Dawn of War II.

Agreed, half of those games listed above arnt even true RTS games.

Homworld = awesome
TA = awesome
Supreme Commander = awesome

All 3 games have soaked up countless hours of my life.

And the people that complain Supreme Commander is too tough, well thats because they havent played a true RTS.

Total annihilation and Supreme commander without question.

After playing these i really wouldn't call rock paper scissors a pro. Also the poll is fail especially for a question with such a large list of possibles.

Among the list, I'd prefer Warcraft III. However, my real pick is Age of Empires 2. AOE should have been here instead of COH or DOW.

WWWWOAH

Chill out fellah

Things you got wrong: 1. Old games are fun but it is foolish to suggest that they are actually better than modern games. Of course they laid foundations and such, but by today's standards they are... (flame shield *ON*) obsolete. I played WC2 and had a decent time, but even without playing WC3 I have the wisdom to know it was a better game than its predecessor. More people enjoyed it, it got better reviews, etc. They deserve acknowledgement and praise all the same, but they do not belong in a this race.

2. World In Conflict and Company of Heroes do too innovate the genre. Have you even played them?

A. WiC gets rid of base building and creates a Total War/Battlefield-esque style of gameplay, 100% unique to the genre.

B. CoH is without doubt the best WWII RTS available. It combines good base building elements and excellent combat elements for a great game that emphasizes battlefield tactics over "who's army is bigger", something that I have yet to see in an RTS of that sort.

The reason I still vote for WiC is that it consistently amazes me with it's application of excellent balance to realistic units. I'm a cold war buff, and it is just an instant nerd-gasm for me every time an AH-64 guts a T-80 with a Hellfire.
