That's underrated not overrated.

I would say Crysis if it was rated as high as Bioshock...but seeing as it's critic scores are not at all revolutionary...
Bioshock. Not because I disliked the game, in fact I loved it, but it didn't deserve such unanimously high praise. I think it deserved no more than a 9. It's scores on metacritic are at 96%, which is Half-Life 2 level, and it is nowhere near HL2s awesomeness.
For most underrated, I'd say Witcher. Great, great game. Got it for like 20 bucks on ebay.
truthfully, I don't understand where all these Crysis haters are coming from. I absolutely loved the game and the sandbox editor is perhaps one of the best things to happen to gaming in a long while. _Pedro_
imo they (crysis haters) just like linear , run and gun shooters
Bioshock imo.
The demo amazed the hell out of me - but the full game was great - but not the HL2 great I was expecting.
Still a fantastic game.

Too right!

I'd actually agree with Crysis being overrated in terms of hype. This game received phenomenal hype, almost like the "second coming of PC gaming".
Crysis is definitely not overrated in terms of review scores IMO though. It does deliver a terrific game with beautiful graphics. Awesome game, just not to the "promised land" :P
Yeah, the haters probably a) can't run the game very well b) prefer linear games and are trying to play this one in a linear fashion c) always looking for something to bash to cause a stir, d) focus entirely on multiplayer, or e) not all games all for everyone and we can't fault them if that's truly the case (I never got into Starcraft for example, refuse to play WoW)
Oh well, to each their own, my overrated would be Hellgate: London and BioShock

I agree. Crysis was the most overhyped. Bioshock, the most overrated (I love it anyway). Though...how was Hellgate overrated? The scores it recieved were pretty damned low...I agree. No, you are absolutely right!!! :)
I'm kind of interchanged overhyped and overrated, except made a distinction with Crysis. Not sure of true intention of the thread as I saw alot of other Hellgate: London choices, but you've made it clear.

crysis may be overhyped, but it still is the best sp in fps since hl2. only area where it didn't met it hype for me was the fact that ai while very good, failed at places.
Absolutely Bioshock.pdkkbarnes1
yup, Bioshock. Full of inch-deep gimmicks and bad gameplay, no ingenuity or depth at all.
I also nominate Supreme Commander, but I love C&C 3 so take it for what its worth lol

No ingenuity or depth at all...pity, guess you missed a great game.definitely call of duty 4, lame singleplayer, basically on rails... while the multiplayer is mediocre at best. Crysis and UT3 FTW!!!
oh and have any of you people who say crysis is overated actually bought and played the game, tested out the many possibilities in its open environment, and on top of that played on High settings? At playable fps? If you have, only then you have the right to call it overated.
I'd say BioShock - it's a good game, but it's consistently scoring 90% and higher - which it definitely does not deserve. I find myself wondering if 35% of that is thanks to Unreal technology.
The most annoying thing about BioShock is that it's a watered down version of a cleverer, harder, more satisfying and more enhjoyable game - and that that game was often overlooked and falls into the cult pigeonhole, while BioShock, a game which clearly has the mainstream to thank for its popularity, was so well receieved not only by the masses, but also by the people who earn a living telling the masses what to think.
i think i have seen lots of the people in this thread praising Crysis and how great it was. Same with Bioshock. I would have to say World in Conflict is the most overated. 9mmSpliff
Same here ! ......There were tons of hype for all the above mentioned, probably more so with Crysis than any other. But I think Crysis and Bioshock came closer to meeting their expectations than WIC, though they both did fall a bit short. I believe any game would have with the bar set as high as it was for them....For all the Hype WIC received prior to it's release, I felt it just fell flat as opposed to Crysis and Bioshock at least coming somewhat close to great game expectations.

i really doubt it. crysis is amazing if you actually know how to play it.

No ingenuity or depth at all...pity, guess you missed a great game.I didnt miss it, that was my experience based on two entire play throughs.
Depth: the game has three enemies; a few variations of splicers, the big daddy, and a couple robots. It had no death system, which takes out any feeling of accomplishment. Plasmids sound neat, but in the end 90% of them proved useless. And the usefull ones, the shock and ice ones, played exactly like theyre guns...but they come out of your hand. Gimmick. And dont get me started on the easiest boss fight in gaming history.
And there isZERO diversity in gameplay...you founda technique that works, and you use it until the end of the game.
No ingenuity: perfect example would be the hacking minigame. They could have done so much with this, but they didnt. It was way to easy, and worst of all, it was idiot proof (for the console gamers, sorry, but its true). Deus Ex and System Shock were ingenious, and I know that Bioshock didnt have RPG elements, but had it kept or borrowedthe solid gameplay fundamentals from games like that (horror and science elements in dystopic environments) it would have been awesome.
The only cool thing about Bioshock was how the player interacted with the Big Daddies and Little Sisters.
Definitely World in Conflict. Sorry but that game is a TERRIBLE real-time strategy game. I mean using the WSAD keys to move the camera? What the hell? ;)spazmaster666
Two game series ring a bell here; Myth: The Fallen Lords and Ground Control.
The GC series scored very positively amongst critics, especially the first one, while Myth: The Fallen Lords won Best Strategy Game of the Year from PC Gamer and the second one is no slouch either.
The control scheme is fine and I wish more games would use it.
And for my most overrated game of the year; Supreme Commander. As a huge fan of Total Annihilation, SC falls short in so many ways.

World in Conflict takes my vote, it was basically an easy and boring RTS with AMAZING graphics, I mean wow are they great for an RTS, but hell, CoH and it's expansion do what WiC does, and ten times better, only difference is visuals.ElArab
coh and its expansion don't do it better but they do it differently.
I can't believe how much people have called on Bioshock and Crysis on this topic. I think that turdpike of a fizzle World in Conflict is the most overrated piece of sperm ridden corpsemound that his hit the shelf in years. It felt like a "strategy" game for disabled monkeys with beautiful graphics and a concept from an alcoholic politician.
Crysis is unbelievable if you know how to set your pc up correctly. Bioshock was ok but it wasn't weak enough to earn that demerit.
Well said. Of course, I haven't actually played the game, but at least your evaluation of it was amuzing. For this alone, I will also vote WiC since I haven't been disappointed with any of the games I've played so far this year (UT3, CnC3, NWN2). There should be no credence taken in my opinion, however.I can't believe how much people have called on Bioshock and Crysis on this topic. I guess what I meant to say is that they way they do it is better. There's still similarities though, like the 'doctrines' with support roles, and territory control.

fair enough, i myself love both ways :D
Crysis,,,
It ran very well 25 to 35fps..16x10 with all options high ( DX10 mod)..
But it just wasn't doing anything for me,,,and the ending and last levelswere lame...especially the last boss...ughhh!
I'd play it again...it's just not on my list right now..
I liked BioShock ( except the ending..again..*sighs*)
It could have used some work...better looking avatars etc and more different enemies...but the setting and the style was amazing....!!!
And they just released a free update for it ( adds a plasmid and other stuff)
So after I finish Gears of War...I'll give Bio-Shock another run...
So yeah Crysis was the most over-hyped game....could have been better...alot better
I would have to say Crysis because you don't release a game with so many graphical issuesVic_Vega1994
What are you talking about son? Get off the whiskey.
Seriously, top stuff.
Somes games said in this topic,
1) Bio-Shock
2) Crysis
3) C&C 3------------------ This, I totally agree with.:D
Typical. This thread is the most popular on the board right now. This just strengthens my theory that everyone on the internet thinks everything is overrated. Bulldog19892Yeah, the internet is overrated.
I wish we had poll for this topic .anyway I tried to count all posts votes .it's not completely accurate but here is the statistics up to now. ( some people voted for more than one game, I also considered second and third choices)
