For me its Alein v Predator 2gandhiaayush
ok i admit its scary but theres scarior games out there in the gaming world
it's not a pc game, but the most frightening game i've ever played is silent hill 1 - the game makes excellent use of darkness and sound (the whole you can hear it but you can't see it gig), and all of the enemies are quite disturbing looking and make me pretty uncomfortable, and the game also has a very melancholy tinge to it, which amplifies the sense of fear somehow
pc-wise, it's sysyetm shock 2 that takes the brown trousers time award - it doesn't make use of darkness as silent hill does, but it uses sound much better, all of the enemies have a terrible wrongness to them, in appearance but especially how they sound - the noises alone just make me feel uncomfortable and afraid
the game is also full of long, empty corridors - and using that old it's not what you can see but what you can't fear technique, the corridors are bland and empty, and the pervading sense of chlaustrophobia and isolation can cause anxiety which, when enemies do finally show up, can just bubble over and cause minorpanic attacks - other techniques are also used with expertise - never in a pc game have i been overwhelmed with a mad animal panic and literally run for my life, not in a self-aware i am playing a game and need to move away from the enemy or i will be harmed way, but in an instinctive my life is in danger way...
runner up on the pc goes to the marine campaign of aliens vs predator (1, not 2) - the game makes excellent use of darkness, sound (again with the knowing enemies are there but where? technique), plus the enemies are both lethal and fast, which is never a good combintion when you can't even see the bastards
doom 3 and f.e.a.r i both find utterly dire as horror games, doom's see-or-shoot vulnerability system is interesting, but easy to adjust to - and all of the enemies have a very generic fps feel to them, none of them carry a serious sense of danger with them, and none are disturbing or senses-offending... f.e.a.r is even worse, its one and only mechanic is to have a little girl - who we can quickly establish does not harm us and is therefore no threat - running around... i quickly got used to her antics and she became more annoying than anything after that... but at best she is a shock device, there's no fear involved
Thief Deadly Shadows The Cradle mission
Haunted Hotel in Vampire Bloodlines (i have the soundtrack for it, and even that is scary)
Bioshock wasnt scary at all, except for one part where you steal a tonic and someone isnt pleased about it, anyway I wont spoil it anymore.
Am I the only one that didn't find FEAR that scary at all?
Anyways, the scariest games IMO are AvP2, Condemned and System Shock 2.

i thought i was the only person who thought that was scary
theres lights breaking crazy and a guy with an axe and even that weird mist that covers the house.
and thats not it , you also go into the past to find the necklas.
dats some scary stuff:(
I haven't played many scary games, but "The Darkness" was kinda creepy :P
EDIT: I don't know if it was on PC, I played it on PS3, but still creepy game :o
man the avp series and system shock 2 seem pretty popular... maybe i should check them out! :D
for me i've gotta say that when i was younger and halo came out, the first time i saw the flood in 343 guilty spark was pretty creepy. the music was top notch for the part where the body falls through the door.
i recently beat RE4 for the Wii and wow that game was creepy! just the whole atmosphere of knowing that you're all alone and there's a village-full (well at least in the beginning) of not-zombies trying to kill you was pretty intense. and later in the game there were like really creepy enemies so i had to be like "ok that's enough for right now" hahaha
but yeah i played the first level of fear and the part where the cannibal dude hits you gave me a jump lol
and my friend had the doom 3 demo for xbox and was saying that it was so scary he couldn't play it so i gave it a try (at like 10:00 at night) and once it got to things that crawled on the ceiling, then i was done lmao
The Silent Hill series are the scariest games. The one you consider scariest depends on where, when & how you played it (i.e. alone, at night, high volume, no other music or sound, during a storm - that's how to play it).
FPS games are usually too much action to be scary. For the last 5 years or so, the only games that were scary to me have been Silent Hill games, and I play near everything but sport games.
