GameSpot's annualBest offeature is just around the corner. Within a matter of days you'll be able to start casting your own votes as part of the reader's choice ballot and GameSpot will begin to reveal its top picks for this year's very best games in every category on every platform.
To have some more fun, we thought we'd hold another ballot within the discussion forums to see what our community's game of the year is. A few of the other communities in the other boards may do the same thing, and once GameSpot release their own game of the year, we'll tally our results and compare against their's in the Best of 2009 board.
This is how it works. Be sure you are voting for your favourite game, not who you think will win GameSpot's game of the year. There is no polls. Instead, there is a 3 point voting system. Everyone will vote for their top 3 games of the year, in order. For each first place vote a game gets, it's worth 3 points. Every 2nd place vote is worth 2 points and every 3rd place vote is worth 1 point.
Example:
1. Game A (gets 3 points towards it's total)
2. Game B (gets 2 points towards it's total)
3. Game C (gets 1 point towards it's total)
Afterwards we'll tally them up and whichever game has the most points will be crowned the PC Games Community's Game of the Year and the people who got the order right will get their names listed here. The voting starts today and ends when Gamespot GOTY results are in.
You can vote for any game from any platform as long as it was released in 2009. Not sure what came out this year? This list may help.
Note that we want this to be a community vote and in order to avoid people creating new accounts just to vote, only subscribers with 100+ posts will be taken into account for the vote. Of course, everyone is free to post and this thread may also be used for discussion.
UPDATE 12/26
Gamespot's GOTY 2009 is Demon's Souls on PS3. Surprising? Kind of. Honestly, I never even heard of the game before. I guess I am not the only one since nobody here mentioned the game even once. Did I expect a PC game to win GS GOTY? Certainly not. After all, this was a relatively poor year (decade?) for PC gaming with the biggest titles being multiplatform games. Not that I have anything against multiplatform games (I am happy finally getting games like SF4) but the winner titles are typically exclusives.
No surprises on the PC end. We got the game right, Dragon Age: Origins, with anoverwhelming majority. The top 3 being an average of all votes, not a lot of people got the order right; in fact only Levrar did. Congrats!
1st Dragon Age : Origins
49votes
2nd Batman: Arkham Asylum
26votes
3rd Left 4 Dead 2
12votes
Honorable mentions to Anno 1404: Dawn of Discovery, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Torchlight, who also made it to the top 6.
