System Shock 2
I tried playing it like 3 times (the first time in 2007) before I finally was able to get into it.
Once I finally did, I loved it
For RTS games i remember when i played the original Empire Earth when i was younger, That game just soaked me in and it was my favorite for years, i loved that there was like 17 ages from stone to spacial. And recently i finished crysis 1 couple of months ago when i finaly got my gtx 460 and i didn't expect it to be great due to the "mixed" reviews and that it was just graphics but that wasn'st the case. The game and the levels completely blew me out. Started playing crysis 2 now, im just in the first levels which are ok, but i read it kicks in after so im looking forward the same experience i got from crysis 1
However, before that there was a little F1 car racing game that was popular on arcade machines at gaming shops, then on the Nintendo Game Boy, but I saw it on my first PC, an old PC that was gonna be thrown in the garbage, but I begged for it, I can't remember the name of the game, maybe it was F1 Race, it was on a MS DOS 386 machine a long time ago.

I remember my parents getting me that f1 racing game for game boy, I hated it. I was like 5 at the time and had never played a racing game before, so I won maybe 2 races ever.
I hear ya. I definitely felt that way when I played Assassin's Creed 1. It was nice seeing a fresh new take on an Assassin type game, but most of it felt tedious, repetitive, and redundant. I really had to force myself to finish it and the ending was pretty lackluster, to say the least. On the other hand, AC2 was everything AC1 should have been. :) Agreed on Fallout 3. Took me a while to warm up to Fallout 3. But once I invested in a good amount of time, I was completely hooked.Fable 2, Fallout 3. I must have started each one 2-3 times and then something just clicked and made me realize how awesome they both were.
Currently, I am trying my hardest to get back into Mass Effect (yes, the original). It's one of those games I had no interest in until the sequel came out and was universally praised, and I have this thing where I can't play a sequel if I don't beat the original. I just feel like it's not quite a shooter, not quite an rpg. I'll get there. Oh I will get there 8)
Also, I really feel like I want to like Assassin's Creed (yes, the original, see above) but, I mean, I just don't *get* it. Climb a tower, find a Flag, kill a dude X10. I really feel like this whole series is going to be cut off for me because I can't bring myself to get into it.

Most recently, Champions Online, after a bunch of friends started playing it. I always disliked super hero themed games and movies, but I really enjoy this little game.
Also I'll give a nod to Warhammer 40k: DoW 1. Didnt know a thing about WH, didnt care....until my friend forced me into his office and made me try DoW1. I now own all the WH games
[QUOTE="the_ChEeSe_mAn2"]What do you mean "won me over"? As in won me over in becoming a PC gamer or won me over as in I didn't like it initially but after giving it another chance it became more fun?Elann2008The second. In that case, 2 games stick out to me most. The first one is Counter Strike. Before CS I never played a shooter online (I only played either SP only or with bots), and when I first saw CS at my local cyber cafe many years ago I was a bit intimidated since everyone seemed to know how to play and everyone except me was acting like pro-gamers. It opened up the shooter MP world for me and I still get a good adrenaline rush while playing an FPS online today. Another one is The Witcher: EE. I got past Chapter 1 and started Chapter 2. Then when I discovered the swamp I was turned off from the game. It just got boring, frustrating and annoying due to the geographical location, monsters and quests that took me all over without a sense of accomplishment. I gave the game again another try 6 months later and finished it in 2 weeks. I even replayed The Witcher recently in preparation for TW2 and it was a blast all the way through this time :D

It took me a while to get into CS as well, the learning curve when it was at it's prime was very intimidating! I also thought I was the only person who got turned off by boring/annoying environments! I think Bulletstorm is calling to me because it's so colorfol and vibrant.
I used to be a big PC gamer a long time ago (10 yrs ago) and it wasnt until Starcraft 2 came out that I really got back into PC gaming.
hahaha gotta love DarthMod it has made Total War greats turn into Legends of Strategy, Tho the modding team behind it is good i dont think they could fix Shogun cause it aint broke :DSTALKER, Empire: Total War (Thanks Darthmod), both Chronicles of Riddick games.

When I first discovered CS, it was at a local cyber cafe, and it that time, it was a very popular game in that kind of environment. I would tag along with my friends, but I was always intimidated by the really good players. But as I got better, it became a lot more fun, especially amongst friends. I spent a good deal of change at those cyber cafes. I'd also like to mention, a lot of people were playing the original Starcraft and Diablo 2 as well. :P
I finally thought of one. Dawn of War 2. I thought Dawn of War 2 was a big mistake and a step in the wrong direction, but after playing it for awhile I think the game was pretty good. KHAndAnimeI can't say I was impressed by the single player. Nice graphics for an RTS game, but the gameplay was stale. Every level felt the same, which ended with a similar boss fight to sum it up. The leveling up system with assignment of equipment and weapons was a nice fresh take on the DOW series, but it wasn't deep enough to care about it. The multiplayer is where it's at though, and because of it, it was a better game.

But I agree, DoW 2 has relatively stale singleplayer component.
