Are you telling me that steam looks at every game in great detail before it gets released on the store? If you feel that you were the victim of false advertising, then request a refund. I will only consider Steam to be at fault if they refuse to give you a refund.

JangoWuzHere

I didn't buy the game, but Steam is responsible for what is on their store, it's as simple as that. I'm not sure why you would think otherwise.

I don't have unrealistic expectations when it comes to Steam. They don't have time to look at every new release that comes out on their platform. If that was the case, then launch releases like Dead Island and Black Ops would never happen. However, its not like it was all doom and gloom for the people who bought those games. The people who requested a refund got one and that's that.

Them reviewing every game that gets put on their store is "unrealistic?" They already have a review system in place, this game just seemed to slip through the cracks. Dead Island and BO2 is not the same situation as this game. They didn't blatantly lie about what was in their games.

Ok, aside from the "scam." Is it a horrible game? Like kick it into the dark woods, bad?Elann2008

Yeah. Played last week and got taken out by hackers about ten minutes in. Had to wait to respawn, got killed once again.

If every single game went through a review system like you said, then how is it that a game like Dead Island could launch with an unplayable developer build? You say it's not the same thing, but I think it's similar. If they both have to go through a long review process, then those games would have never been released on Steam.

The Dead island page wasn't a bunch of lies and the developers wern't trying to run a cash-in scam behind closed doors.

I know, but if Dead Island did go through a long review process, then it wouldn't have been on Steam. If War Z went through a long review process, then the features on the store page would be different.

Been hearing so much bad stuff about this game. Its a shame cause the idea itself looks cool. I wish DayZ would hurry up. Will probably be skipping WarZ though.

As I understand it you are saying that Steam games should go through a long process of review before they get approved. I may agree with this but it isn't always possible on Steam's part. Now, there's a difference between Dead Island and WarZ: Dead Island: game delivered everything that was promised on the game page but had optimization and bug problems. These were later fixed thru patching (both community and official). This isn't the first or last game on Steam that launches with bugs. WarZ: the game is launching on Steam with things that are actually NOT in the game (apart from bugs and optimization). It's launching as a full game when it's still a beta game. See the difference?

I've watched several hours of gameplay videos and it looks pretty good to me. If the hacker problem was fixed I would buy it. Until then it is on my watch list.

I almost get the sense there is a layer of malevolence with the Warz developers underlining their endeavor for profit. Like they are sitting behind their computers laughing in disbelief, exclaiming to their co-workers "oh my god people are actually buying it! its working! What idiots gamers are to believe our lies!"

They way they handle themselves is shameful, reading over the faq on their official website before they changed it was sickening.

Very shocking to see this unfinished product up on steam. I avoided the term "game" because I wouldn't call it that. I'm very disappointed insteam for putting this up. The devs outright lie about the features in the game and anyone who bought it should sue or something. The game is also fricken horrible from the guest pass gameplay I played.

No, I do not believe that Steam games should go through a long review process. I think that is completelyunrealistic. However, if that did happen, then games like Dead Island (unplayable game state, awful performance, tons of bugs) and War Z (false advertizing) wouldn't have been released. Toxic Seahorse says there is a review process. However, I don't believe they play the games extensively or check for various features found on the store page when reviewing games.

There is a total amatuer vibe about them. They put fvck all effort into the game and it shows as soon as you start playing and they have promised so many updates to the game and never once hit a deadline on time, it was always late or postponed. They also have no intentions of dealing with hackers and just ban random people

At this point everyone knows it's in an early version. Yes they should state it on the page, but everyone does already know so don't make a huge fuss about something thats not needed. If the game wasn't so well known and so popular then it would be more of an issue.

Na, they don't play the games, that would take too much time, but I know they at least make sure they know what they're putting on the store. You can't simply ask steam to put your game on their store without them researching it. I find it hard to believe that steam didn't know that this was a very early version of the game. They need to make sure what's being advertised is the same as what is being provided. Again, the developers do deserve 99% of the blame, but steam isn't compeltely innocent here either.

similiar thing. game is still being developed. your essentially paying to play an alpha/beta. but it wasnt described on the store page as such. Add to that their PR in the forums was a whole nother level of douche. you end up with this: http://steamcommunity.com/app/221020/discussions/0/882965737399828594/

They jumped out from alpha to "release" build (just like WarZ) and it was advertised like a full released game on the steam store page. People bought it and realised it was still in beta, mass refunding ensued and a lot of people asked the devs to update the info on the store page but nothing was done about it. Well, they added an useless remark (Towns is continually being developed and updated to bring you the best experience possible!) that in no shape or form states the the game is still in beta. Moral of the story: the game is still being advertised as a full release on the store page even though there are a lot of issues (missing/broken features) even after a couple of updates. It still looks kind of fun to me from certain Youtube videos I've watched, and the graphics aren't "Terrible", either. They look quite nice, reminds me of STALKER, and actually the graphics look better than STALKER from what I can tell(especially without mods), but most STALKER fans wont agree, simply because it's not STALKER, but it looks great graphically so far.

Meh, Despite being my favorite game series of all time, the STALKER games are very inconsistent graphics wise. Some areas looks great, some look bad. War Z doesn't look all that great, definitely better than Shadow of Chernobyl, but I wouldn't say it looks better than Clear Sky.

Well, being that I haven't played War Z, I can't say for certain but specifically I was talking about the game I invested the most time in, which is Pripyat, the building models almost look identical to me. Anyway, I think it's a little unfair to say this game is a "Scam", it's a game, and may not be exactly polished but to see it's actively being worked on is nice. And yes, I do think the push was to get it out before Day Z's stand alone game, in which case I think this looks better. Nonetheless, PC gamers have always been such spoiled little brats, wanting everything to be perfectly how they envisioned it, or hell to be paid and I don't think that's fair and I do believe that is what gets us ostracized as a majority, from the small minority never pleased with anything whatsoever.

Either way, again I haven't followed, nor played the game, but I think the claims are a little over ambitious, unfair and kind of juvenile.

How come people aren't up in arms about Towns? The game is in Alpha and the store page leads you to believe it's the full game.

SystemsGO

Game statusHello!

We read some topics about the status of the game (alpha, beta, gold, ...).

We consider the current game build fully playable and enjoyable. We plan to add A LOT of new features. Those features can take years to be finished. So, we have decided to release the game (again, fully playable) and slowly update it with new patches.I think this is a perfectly fair response. They want the game to be enjoyed, it's playable in it's current state but will continue to be worked on. This is essentially the same thig that happens with every moden games release these days. Nothing is ever finished, nor polished until they release some enormous patch you must download first, which ends up being continuous throughout the games existence.

How come people aren't up in arms about Towns? The game is in Alpha and the store page leads you to believe it's the full game. MythPro1

War Z is more popular, and the game has been receiving severe backlash from the gaming community for many months now.

I don't think you understand what the problem is. The steam page is advertising features that aren't even in the game yet and nowhere does it say that the game does not yet have these features. They're blatantly lying about what you're getting. They're leading users to belive that they are getting the game that is described on the steam page when in reality they are not. This isn't about the game being bad, it's about blatant false advertising.

this scam claim is not new, plenty of people have left the moderator team detailing the inner workings of the team behind WarZ. WarZ has been in development for less than a year. In fact it uses all direct assets from War Inc. (npcs, weapons, sounds, models ,textures, entire maps) and all they did was add zombie spawns to it, sell people a completely broken alpha version, and then ban people when they spoke up about bugs, cheaters, or refunds. It's a cash in from the success of DayZ (it was actually announced right at the height of the DayZ explosion, and they lied about having it in production for a while) Nothing about the criticism here is juvenile, it is fully deserved.

Unfortunately the buck ends with Valve on this one. You cant advertise and sell something and claim complete ignorance on the subject. If modes and features that are advertised are missing, then its valves responsibilty. So what does that mean? I hope it means that Valve learns from this and we all get free games to compensate.

Everyone can put down war z as much as they want, however it would be like me selling war z to people and saying "I have no role in this whatsoever so any problems you have it is down with them or you, not me.... I am keeping mah monies"

Did you not read my posts? The Steam store page for The War Z is falsely advertising the game. Half of the features the page lists aren't even in the game.

If that's not a scam, I don't know what is.

People have a right to warn others and voice ther eopinion, no reason to calm down.

This is false advertisement, period.

If they added on teh steam page that the game is in early stages or that half o the listed features are NOT in the game yet this wouuld not be as big fo a deal. But they are lying and not being honest at all.

Ive never made a big deal about anything on steam in 7+ years until now, this is not right and I hope people do researcha nd look at videos before buygin this scam of a game.

its not just that people dislike the game and aspects of it, its also all the scam style things they have done so far aswell.

And I agree.

But none of us know the selection procedure for Steam. Let's wait and see if they fixed the description once they realize or not.

You guys make it out to be like Steam is lying, which basically they aren't. They are just describing what the WarZ developers say about their game (copy and paste).

Like you go to Kmart and buy a router that promises all these things, do you think Kmart checks all those things before putting on the shelf?

I'm just curious what you need to do to get a game approved and posted "to sell" on Steam or any digital download service for that matter. Aren't one of the questions, "Is it in alpha, beta, full release?" It's just mind-boggling. I'm not saying it's entirely Valve's fault, or maybe it is! I'm saying... who erased the answers? :P It all sounds really slick 'n slide to me. Something doesn't add up.

Regarding Dead Island, that was another slip up as well. Uploading the developer's build. But at least that was essentially the finished game minus a patch. And the developer patched it on day one. Of course they did or else they would have felt the thunder.

Same, pretty disappointed at steam that this turd is being sold, with features it doesn't have, on their storefront. Shame.

Steam probably didn't know that it was falsely advertised. I don't think they are at fault here. I'm sure they will do something about this quickly.

Yep, and the sad thing is it's not the first time it happens nor will it be the last. Just to list a few cases of troubled releases on steam: *Breach http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2036764 *Orion: Dino Beatdown http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2920533 *Towns http://steamcommunity.com/app/221020/discussions/0/846939071331801095/ *Raven Squad http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1900937 *Legend of Pegasus http://steamcommunity.com/app/205590/discussions/0/864943478397022831/ The list goes on and on... Valve should really step up their selection process and choose more carefully what they put into their store, they are the one to blame for these debacles.
