Hey guys,

I decided to join the fad and play The Witcher. I am currently playing through number 1 and I'm halfway through chapter 3. When I started the game I was presented with 3 difficulties and arrogant as I am I decide that I can beat anything so bring the hardest difficulty on.

The thing is... it.. is.. SO... EASY. Why didn't they make a harder difficulty? I rarely get under 75% hp even at bossfights a mixture of countering whatever you're fighting + White Raffards Concoction, Swallow and White Honey makes it impossible to lose HP, and the reagents are too easy and plentiful to acquire.

Do you feel this way too?.. and is The Witcher 2 as easy?

Just wait until one the later bosses that will stunlock you to death and you'll probably end up quitin' the game if you want to save a "special" character that can accompany you in that fight. I had to use a trainer myself. If you're man enough, you can play on insane difficulty in Witcher 2. That means if you die, you're dead. You have to start over the whole game again.

Using a trainer really? :( I played on normal difficulty and while it was challenging and monotonous, I didn't need to resort into using a trainer.

Playing on hard and trying to keep
Berengar alive while fighting Azar Javed is close to impossible.
Willow my friend... Oh, another thing... I haven't been close to dying yet as I said. The time i was closest was against the beast when I didn't have proper alchemy recipes yet and shani was slacking.

I havent reached the stage where i have found berengar yet... but as it is now, what i think is going to happen is use the appropriate signs to prevent him from getting damage...

.. I honestly think the difficulty comes down to "are you using stupid potions and signs?" "are you leveling talents that doesnt compliment each other?" etc..

The combat bored me to death in the first game. I could never finish it. The second game has much better combat and is much harder at least in the begining of the game.

I enjoyed the combat of both games, and believed Witcher 2 to be Much harder than the first one.. Even normal difficulty proved a bit of a challenge..and Insane makes me want to smash my head into the monitor. I think you'll feel more of a difficulty burst in the next game..but come to think of it..I don't remember the first Witcher being that easy.. *shrug*

I'm happy to hear it.

I enjoy the game, as in i like the lore and plot, but the lore was kinda there already since The Witcher is based on a series of polish books(very nice btw). You can find translations of it here and there on the net, no official complete releases yet though.

My problem so far has been that I love a challenge too, and I thought it would be. Considering that a game usually takes speed after the first couple of hours and not get A LOT easier as you level up.

Yeah good luck with that on hard. Just google the issue and you won't find any easy answer. It's mostly down to luck equivalent to winning the big lottory or cheating. I've never heard or seen anyone doing it legit or claiming that they did. Javed can oneshot him before you can even throw your first sign.

Witcher 2's combat is much more challenging than Witcher 1's combat. in W1, I never had to use any potions except swallow. in Witcher 2, if I get my ass kicked several times in a row by the same boss/NPC, I end up reloading an earlier save and popping at least 2-3 potions and an oil on the sword. But I like that extra challenge.

OH MY, thats so awesome xD I've used The Witcher Wikia + some amazon info, but apparently on the worng page. Will be awesome to get to read it finally. Thanks for pointing that out.

About difficulty again, we will see... I very much doubt it will be such a problem.

Playing on hard and trying to keep

But he's supposed to die during that fight. He has no dialogue afterwards and there is nothing added in the journal.

I really enjoyed The Last Wish. You can get it from Amazon. :)

As far as difficulty goes, I had to get used to the control scheme during the prologue, but once I did, it became pretty easy (TW2). The only times I have had trouble were when I got surrounded by tons of monsters. In those cases, I've found that if you just throw bombs or daggers, you can thin out their numbers pretty quickly.

Something else entirely...

What is the talent "Brawn" in Endurance good for? You don't use endurance on attacks... I've been trying to find out in the Wikia but its the exact same explanation as in the talent tree.

Hard mode really isn't all that different than normal mode. The biggest shock is that the combo icon is removed. And being that you skipped over the icon designator and figured out the visuals and the sound effect for the combo timing.... you pretty much skipped over of why Hard mode is labeled hard.

I think By attacks they mean magic attacks... Magic is the only thing that consumes endurance.

You have to start over the whole game again.

kaealy
You know that you can make a potion which makes you immune to stuns, right? Just drink one of that and the boss is a joke.

.. and as i said in the post just after that comment the potion name is Willow..

@Threesixtyci

True, if the difference is combat oriented and not more damage taken/less resistance..

The game is easy if you know what to do, (as in using the right techniques, etc). But it's still a great game, so don't knock it just cause it's alittle easy, but I found that there were times later on, where I'd have to do everything right to win (BTW, you didn't fight wyverns in Chapter 2 did you?)

The stunlock boss in question was kinda easy (on normal, but bear with me) if you had the right potions (full moon, doubled your health, and in overestimation 23 white daffid potions + ten swallow potions).

But if there was a way to make the game more challenging, I'd enjoy that, as the last couple bosses were easy (Full moon, once again.)

But its still a great game, just felt like giving in my two cents

I do like the game, but I had hoped it was harder. Yes I've fought wyverns, also the Royal Drakes or something and their female leader.

True the first Witcher was easy. The only hard part (sort of) was that you can get one-shoted if you're knocked down.

However, I can bet you $100 that it'll take you a loooooooong time to complete TW2 on insane.

Hehe, that's the exact reason I've specced in knockdown resistance :) The "rarely under 75%" was also while being knocked down. Fortunately speccing towards that was natural when I wanted HP and damage as well.
