Odd bug here and there, it sometimes crashes and I've had my save file deleted on a crash when I was saving, twice. It autosaves quite frequently so theres no need to worry much there, but for the most part I'd say it's quite bug free. I'd recommend the game even with bugs, it's a hell of an adventure.

I purchased The Witcher EE on Impulse (Stardock), and it has never crashed.

Not only that, but I have received several free automatic updates to the game, and the version number is at 1.5.

Buy the game and gift it to his Steam account later, if the duration of the sale is your problem that is.

Mine crashed maybe once in Chapter one, quite a few times in chapter 3 (4 or 5) and once in Chapter 4. I bought the regular edition and patched it up to EE, so maybe around 7 crashes the whole time I was playing, it was fully patched, I don't know how many other people experienced crashing though.

I have no problems with any crashes on my machine. I didrun into a audio cut out problem with the bik FMV's, but eventually was able to fix it by changing the binkw32.dll to an older version. My story is pretty much here:http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=24645.msg5318242#msg5318242

As for others.... if you go to the last few pages, you'll see that there are a few people having protection fault errors with the game.... I wasn't one of those people though. My PC runs the game fine. Haven't had a crash yet with this game. Just had a problem with blur, which was introduced in patch 1.4, and then had a problem with audio cutout on thone bink Movies, that I was able to resolve a few weeks ago, after like a year of finding a workaround.... which is in that link.

I'm not sure what version is the director's cut; I think it's may be 1.5. I think this because the message of the1.5 patch said something about it being preloaded in the upcomming director's cut version. http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=24645.msg528452#msg528452. Anyway, as far as what's different in the Director's Cut.... that would be nothing, if you're like me and bought the UK version, of the orginal Witcher. I'm pretty sure, anyway that the Director's cut is nothing more than the UK version of the Witcher. That's why the Director's cut only exists in the United States.... The orginal versions of the Witcher released in the US, were slightly censored. Basicly...removal of nipples on the sex cards, and I'm thinking maybe the skin of the only Dryid you meet with-in the game. She's basicly nude in the UK version, with the US version having her hair and other small changes to cover herself up a bit more... Although I'm not sure about the Dryid... I only know what she looks like in the UK version, really; cause that's the only version I own... As for the orginal US version anda certain user madecard patch... I hear that one exists, but I would have no idea to verify it's content, being I have the UK version of the witcher (bought it from gogamer.com). I doubt itrestores the dryid's orginal skin, but then again, I don't even know if the old skin is restored in the Director's cut version, either.

Maybe the there are extras in the packaging, too; but if you're getting this thru Steam then that's not going to matter, any.... 'cause you won't be getting any physical packaging..... Probalby comes with all thedownloadable campaigns, too. But you can download those for free from their website for the orginal version, so you're not really getting anything new as far as thoseexternal sidequest campaignsgo. Just don't have to download them yourself....

Ah yes, mmm thanks, I have been meaning to get this game for a while but never got around to it :) I just thought the new edition would fix bugs, but I can patch I guess. Thanks.

Btw I was thinking of the Enchanced edition, not the directors cut. Might just be a different name for it in Uk than us, or it might just be the patched version with a little more content. But im getting the enhanced edition anyway

Umm... I'm not sure what you your'e asking. But the different versions are split between censored, and non-censored between the UK version (non-censored) and the US version (censored). That also goes for the Orginal and the Enhanced version. The Director's cut is only being released in the United States with the reason being, that it's the UK version of the Enhanced Version, and most likely has the 1.5 patch pre-installed.

As for the difference between the orginal and the Enhanced... the only difference is that the Enhanced is pre-installed with the 1.4 patch. A side effect to that was that the orginal could be played without the disk in the drive, where as with the Enhanced version, you need to put the disk in the drive to play. Then comes 1.5 patch... which allows Enhanced version owners to now play without the disk in the drive. One other thing about the 1.4 patch, it had a bug. After dialog sequences the game's graphics would be all blurry. This was repaired in a hotfix. This same hotfix was added to the 1.5 patch. Also, that same hotfix broke my bink movie playback in the game.... Which I've already posted a workaround for, on my first post. Not everyone has the audio cut-out, though. It seems that only those with single core processors get the problem... At least, that's what I figure.

As for any patches to turn the US version into the UK version, there is no *offical* patch that does that, so apparently that's where the Director's cut edition falls into the play and why it's only availiable in the US, and not the UK.

 Oh, and did I forget to mention that the 1.4 patch takes about 2-3 hours to install, on the orginal game?

edit: I'm reading through some of the posts at the witcher forum. From what I gather, a few guys are saying that the 1.5 patch isn't included in the director's cut (mainly because that the director's cut is being released in a digital distribution format and that Steam hasn't gotten the 1.5 patch, yet.... and as everyone knows digital distribution patches aren't compatible with the box version patch. But, Steam should eventually get the 1.5 patch... only real benefit I see for Steam owners with the 1.5 patch is the user made content...though. I mean, you already don't need a disk in the drive to play the game....) and I'm reading that they released a director's cut patch for theEE version of Witcher. So... those that already own EE, don't have to go out and buy the director's cut to get the uncensored version of the game.... Pretty cool of them, i think. Not that it matters to me....I have an import copy of the game.... Here's a link to the difference reported by CD Projekt RED: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=24841.msg532093#msg532093

They fixed the bugs, but the game is still pretty bland/boring despite awesome combat and some solid dialog.
