There has been bad things said about it? I cannot recall anything overly negative said about it at all maybe other than the lack of models designed for the game.

The Combat & Alchemy System make the game fun/dynamic/and strategic at the sametime, Its not just click click click click click.

The Storyline is great to follow, it keeps you hooked the entire time you play it.

The Technical Issues have pretty much been hammered out imo. the Ver 1.2 Patch almost never crashes. and I can only count a few times it has crashed on me sinse I got it using 1.2 and the Load timeshave been Reduced by a huge margin also

There is no way I can think of to say NOT to buy The Witcher. Best RPG of 2007 hands down.

Its very good. The missions are varied,so not just the usual "go there, kill that, come back" (oblivion I'm looking at you) and the combat system works really well IMO.A patch has just been released which has improved load and save times(one of the main complaints).I havent experienced too many tech problems, apart from twice where I got stuck in the ground and couldn't move so I had to restart, but its a fairly bug-free game as far as I can tell.

As for how demanding it is,well it depends on the settings obviously. If it helps I have a Q6600 at stock,2 gig ram and a 8800gt and I can max it out fairly comfortably at 1400x900.

All in all,the Witcher is an enjoyable Rpg with great interaction with the game world, has an intriguing plot and deals with mature and grown up issues which you have alot of freedom in decidinghow you deal with them.

One of the Best CRPG's to come out of late. Great story and choice of control. I personally like the mouse control option, just like the old CRPG's. As for your hardware, you have over enough. I have been running it successfully on a P4 3.2 HT with 2 GB memory and a Nvidia 7300 GS 256 mb card, since before the 1.2 patch and have had minimal hassels. Naturally the latest patch has sorted out the rest. Therefore, if you enjoy a good, no sorry, GREAT CRPG, which have been very scarce lately, there is only one question left. What are you doing still sitting in front of your PC? Go out and buy it NOW!

I'd disagree with what you said about the combat system, which is basically just timed clicking :)

But yeah The Witcher is still the best RPG of year, and probably the best to come out in a long time. As for the bugs, it used to crash after a few hours straight of playing, but new patches have fixed that.

My only complaint is the loading times.

My issues with the game are

excess clicks for some simple tasks (eg ferrman)

auto sheathing of weapon in combat zones

first boss

not much else, its a damn fine game.

Meh...

It was ok...

The only reason people really rave it is the only decent RPG to come down the pipe lately and there is nudity....boobage !

I found the fights repetitous, alot of Fed X quests, too many look a like NPCS, incomphrehensible dialogue at times....confusing story line....and mostly the long load times.

Especially if you had to relay a message and it took 6 loading screens....Man..!!!.... it got to the pointI forgot what the heck I was supposed to be doing and where I was going..!!

Haven't tried the patch yet ( Playing STALKER..again)...maybe I'll give it another throw...those loading screens really take you out of it...just like NWN2..ughhh.

You may want to get the british version.... due to it's not edited (although the edits really isn't much from what I can tell, I was expecting some hot coffee action.... there is none, only trade cards with nipples and I think I heard that final blows on the US version the camera pans down to not show decapitations or something.) gogogamers.com is selling it for 50 bucks.

Although.... the DVD is flimsy as flimsy can be.Don't know if the US DVD's are as thin, too. But I suspect this import disk isn't going to last very long.I don't know how it happened but somehow between the case and my dvd player.... it got some pretty good scratches on it, too... wierd looking scratches at that... and the DVD is thin.... real thin. At least it doesn't access during game play, need it in the drive for security purposes only, though.

Also when installing it make sure you don't have any third party stuff running like virus scanners or demon tools.... the security of the disk gets screwy and will stop at 90% install.... And be sure you have enough virtual ram during the install process... you'll get a file transfer error on cab6 file if you lack harddrive space for vitural ram. Gave me that error when I had 4gig free on the C drive... had to delete stuff and it finally installed with 12gig free on the drive. (I made by C partition too small, I guess, when I put windows on it.)

Your PC should handle it.... mine is much slower than yours, and I'm overclocking it to play the game. 1.81gig socket 989 3000XP with 6600GT 2gigs of ram. Got it overclocked to 2.10gigs or something. The video card is my real handycap.... running it on low settings for the most part, but it's playable....

Load times do suck... but, they sucked even more before the patches, so be thankful for that.... Patches have improved loadtimes by like 55%. And Save times by at least 70%. Also....the patch is prettty huge... over 100mb.

it starts off kinda slow, but it's without a doubt one of the most deep and challenging games to come along in a very long time. This game will not only test your reflexes, but also your brain.

Not sure why my spaces didn't take, but should say:

You'll be able to run it no problem, and with the latest patch 1.2 - most of the technical issues are resolved. It was mainly the lengthy load and auto-save times that people were turned off by, and those have been dramatically reduced.

True. What makes it better for me is that you can upgrade each set of moves, which result in new, more powerful attack animations. It's not hugely different than the standard Diablo Click Fest, but different enough to make it more enjoyable. Plus you can use evasive moves & switch between combat styles, which adds another layer to combat.

Meh...

The load and save times have been drastically reduced with the new patch. If you did not like all the things you listed, then I doubt you'd like the game much with its shorter load & save times.

Anyone know how to fix the crashing I get at random load times? So far it has been good, but I really can't stand it crashing a whole bunch. I have the latest patch and I am running the game on Vista, if anyone knows a possible solution to the problem I would appreciate it.

Try this fix, maybe it will help you ;

If your game is regularly crashing with 32-bit Vista (this does NOT apply to 64-bit Vista):

From the Windows command line: BCDEDIT /set IncreaseUserVa 2800
Then you must reboot your computer.
Then start Witcher and see if you crash anymore.

For those who want an explanation before blindly trying it:

The Witcher executable is a 32-bit app compiled with "large address awareness", what this means is that the maximum amount of address space it can make use of is:
On 64-bit Vista: 4GB
On 32-bit Vista: whatever IncreaseUserVa is set to (defaults to 2048MB)
(Note: address space doesn't necessarily equate to real memory used, so I'm not saying that The Witcher actually makes use of >2GB RAM)

Note: the valid values for IncreaseUserVa are 2048 to 3072, if 2800 doesn't work for you, you could try a higher (or lower) number. Higher number might be needed especially if you have a video card with a lot of memory on it (>512MB). If you have problems you can always boot in safe mode and change it back to a lower value, or the normal 2048.

Also note: I would recommend switching this parameter back to the default of 2048 once you're done with The Witcher. There are good reasons that Microsoft has it set at 2048 for normal purposes.

I'm currently playing Witcher. It does have an addicting appeal like a good RPG should have. But it's also not perfect. As mentioned, the load times whenever you switch between indoors/outdoors is unreasonably long. And I am a little disappointed at how linear the environments are. This rpg reminds me very much of Fable, which was another decent, but somewhat linear rpg.

I just installed the 1.2 patch. I was very happy to find out it fixed the long load times with indoor/outdoor transitions, and with saving/loading. It makes the game much more tolerable to play now . . . big difference! Finally, a game patch that really makes a positive difference.

the witcher is the most underrated game of the year. It have around 50-60 hours of gameplay and have replayability value. Some people do experience long load times, but if you were to download patch 1.2 that would be fixed. The Witcher is a definite buy worth $50.
