I found this on a game guide/review

Identity. I never got a chance to finish this primary quest, don't know if it's a bug, but it seems to have to do with Triss. But in this game, I chose Shani. Near the end of the game, this quest was still open and "I" still don't know what happened to me. One of the driving purposes in the story for Geralt was to find out what happened to him which led to his amnesia. This to my knowledge was never unraveled. This memory never recovered, thus we never knew what happened between the Striga encounter and sudden appearance of Geralt at Kaer Morhen.

This is the same problem I had, and I too chose Shani.

Did this happen to other ppl? If so did you choose Triss or Shani as your love interest (between random casual encounters)

If it didn't happen to you and you did get this quest to complete, do you find out any more of the story from it?

From what I remember, you're never really told what your past identity was. It's sort of established through your actions, and cutscenes after you perform significant actions. That's more or less what Triss tells you - she never explicity sits down and tells you what you were like before the memory loss.

the identity quest doesn't reveal the whole past (or future?) *history* of Geralt. and since the game ends after the last conversation with Dandelion, we don't get to see the last entry update.

the end cinematics...you can see that as a prelude to a sequel game (there are other Witchers so and so) or a hint on Geralt version of time paradox (he actually kills himself, either from past or future). I don't care either way though. if there's a sequel, fine; if it IS the time paradox thing, well, I'd just be glad that that's not made explicit throughout the game. Alvin's time travel is fine, but time paradox is too cliche and simply ridiclous considering the nature of time itself.

as for the Shani side of the identity quest. It is supposed to be *incomplete* (or without *proper* closure quest entry). Triss is the true love of Geralt. The Witcher isn't BG2; there's a preferred love interest which is a part of the whole complex choices - consequences thing of the game: only if you make certain decisions can Geralt see who his true love is.
