Who else here is running their main rig on older equipment (2 years +)

Myself, 4400x2, discontinued mobo from asus, ddr2 677 ram. The gfx is over a year old and a few months.

This thread isn't to shame those of us with small budgets but to honor our older hardware and congraulate our p.cs on lives well lived and the future ahead of them. I don't see myself upgrading anything major for at least another year and a half. Who says that you have to upgrade once a year?

but my sister has a P4 @ 3.0 Ghz, 6600GT, 1gb ddr2 RAM, P5 mobo (i think), 17" LG LCD Moniter, XP

still rungames at 1024x768 ok, but newer games have to be 800x600 or medium settings

and my bro has: E8400 (sold his Q6600 to a friend), 8800GTS 512mb (G92), sound card, 4gig DDR2 RAM, Vista + XP, 24" Dell moniter

and my mum has a laptop (samsung)

my dad (lives in korea, coming to AUS soon) has: some AMD dual core(dont really like AMD + ATI), ATI 3870, 2gig RAM, XP, 30" Samsung (doesnt game but needs the screen for his work)

so basically the only the females in my family have not so good comptuers

for me SLI wont be that good (22" so 16890x1050) but for him 1920x1080 (or 1200) it will increase FPS quite a bit

Main rig

Intel P4 2.6Ghz (Northwood)

Asus P4PE mobo

ATi 9700PRO 128Mb

1Gb Kingston HyperX (2x512Mb)

Antec 430Watt PSU

2x120Gb HDDs (Western Digital and Seagate)

5 1/2 years old and still kicking. It actually plays stalker on med settings 1280x1024 with a very playable frame rate lol, I'm shocked it has lasted this long but its going to be retired soon.

Ah...a thread where I can weep ! My first 'rig' was :

P4, 1.7 Ghz, 394 MB RAM, 40 gig Hard drive, Geforce 6200 256 MB (I had a SiS 32 MB video card before that !), 15" CRT, 400W PSU. This was almost 6 years ago when I was 16/17 and wanted a computer. This PC gave me loads of memories and I sold it to a friend for 100$

My current 'rig' is a 3 year old laptop on which the only game I play on full settings is 3D Pinball :(

BUT, I am gonna start a new job soon and will be finally building a PC in the summer ! You have no idea how much m gonna go crazy when i start gaming again :D....its been too freaking long and painful wait

Well I have a mix of new and old and so here it goes.

Amd athlon 64 x2 dual core 3800+ this is 2+ years old.

The new is this.

2 gigs of ram

8800gt superclocked 512mb card from evga. I used to have a 7600gt oc way back and then I had a 8600gt xxx 256mb and then I up to this one.

250gig hddr origanly in this pc and then I added a 160 gig from my old pc that I use to have before this one and that one was a emachine 1.8 I believe. Not sure cause it has been like over 5+ ago.

For the longest time my Mom, sister,Dad and I we all shared one pc and boy what a mess that was. The only way I got to play on it was late at night.

I believe that pc was a tandy. I think that used to be a pcs name not sure though.

500 watt psu that is in the current pc that I have.

Also I have a nvidia nforce 61x0mcp

Now my Mom has a 2+ year old pc and hers is this

Intel centron or what ever that name is

single core 3.6

1 gig

ati 200 series a internal graphics

also internal sound card. She isn't a person who cares about the sound and graphics and that sort of stuff like I do.

250 gigs I believe

I.m not sure if this is really old or not but I decided to go ahead and put it in here.

I'm still using my P4 3.2Ghz 1GB DDR1 400Mhz ram 7600GS AGP 8x MSI 865PE Platinum Edition. All sitting in a Thermaltake Kandalf case, which I bought for my new system which should be ready in a week or so.
New system:

Q9450 w/ Tuniq Tower 120 LED2
2GB Corsair 1333Mhz DDR3
9800GX2
500GB HDD x2
EVGA 790i Ultra
Thermaltake 1200W PSU

Quite an upgrade if I do say so myself

i decided the only upgrade im gonna do to my rig is to get a GT200

in 2- 3 years will do a complete new build
im gonna go INSANE on my next build

if i went for it now i would get
E8400
9800GTX x3 in Tri SLI
790i SLI mobo (prob a XFX)
2 gig of DDR3 (1800mhz)
250hdd + 500 hdd
2 dvd reader/burners

how much do you rekon that would be??

that whould give me a reference of how much im gonna spend in 2 -3 years
ofcourse by then there will be newer cards and mobo and CPU's but im gonna get teh equivelent of teh setup above

so future
some good dual/quad core
3 of the 2nd best nvidia cards (9800GTX, 8800GTX type, not GX2 or Ultra type of cards)
and 2 gig of DDR3 or 4

Mine is 4 years old I think:

P4 2.8Ghz Northwood

1GB Kingston ram

1x250gb WD and 1x120gb Seagate

A motherboard by Asus I think and an old creative soundcard

When I got it, it could play everything top notch but now it's almost useless. It can still play HL2 and Sins of a Solar Empire but this month I am buying a new rig so looking forward to that!

EDIT: Oh yeah and a Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb.

Dell Dimension 4700 (P4 2.8GHZ)

Added 1 gig of ram so i got up to 1.5GB

Put in a 7300GS 512 instead of intergrated

There was a 80GB hard drive but it broke about 1 month before i build my new one now its 320GB

When i am looking for a challenge i use this rig, its what i had before the start of this summer, i actually play games on it:

Intel Pentium 3 at 500 Mhz (i might have baked it, last tim i was using it i set the mutliplier to 3.5 and the other thingy to 350, computer turned off and everything started flashing, i unplugged all and waited an hour and it was all back to factory bios settings)

2* 256Mb Zytec (or some bankrupt company like this) DIMM ram

Nvidia Geforce FX2

Sound Blaster LIVE

Western Digital 80 Gig HDD

Aopen 63XPro with Award Winning Bios R 1.32

270V PSU

And like all my computers, since i live on an isolated farm, it has dial up

And this was and sometimes is my WoW computer, got me to lvl 70!!!!! YAY

AGP, DIMM, and OC allowed BIOS FTW!!!!!11
