For a while now I've been looking at laptops, notably a MacBook Pro (I know, I know, don't give me the Macs suck speech. I have a Windows desktop already. If I bough the Mac I'd be dual-booting for games). I've also been interested in the whole idea that the Thunderbolt port allows the usage of external GPUs (http://www.anandtech.com/show/5352/msis-gus-ii-external-gpu-via-thunderbolt). At first I thought that the Thunderbolt port wouldn't be fast enough for a full-sized desktop GPU, but after doing a bit of research I've heard about people trying to create their own eGPUs and they seem to have fairly impressive results. I think it would be pretty nice to have a 13" MacBook and have decent graphical pefromace for a game like Battlefield 3 or The Witcher 2. What suprised me is that eGPUs don't seem to have a big impact on performance. It seems people are getting decent scores for benchmarks shown here:http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/418851-diy-egpu-experiences.html. Are they working to full capacity? No, but they sure beat IGPs.
What do you all think about eGPUs and their future?
